Meng De was raised to be hated, he was the product of a foreigner's lust for a lowlander serving girl which took on brutal turns

being the child created from rape had been drilled into his head since he'd been very young, his birth killed his mother they told him cruelly.

the other children sneered at him because of his green eyes while others spat at his feet, though as he aged he's bulked up considerably with all the work he had been forced to do, his tormer's had gotten crafty

to everyone he looked more foreigner while his body was lean it wasn't as much as theirs his shiny black hair which he refused to cut was the only link to his Asian heritage

at 16 he befriended another boy of the same age who was like sunlight through his darkness
but even there friendship died up a few years later when he finds out his friend is a highlander prince visiting to 'rough it out' with the outlander's

as their friendship broke their rivalry began to increase and resentment of the princes high born status while meng de crawled out from a rock every morning to face the dreary sky his own veiw of hell..
no knowing it was his growing power over storms that kept the sky that way

after he had finished his training at 25 he is told that there is another teacher over the mountains that could further teach one student the secret arts

ready to agree he is told he has to fight the prince for the position and if he loses the prince goes or if the prince loses Meng De gets to leave to find the teacher

thinking it would be an easy win he forgot how cunning the prince actually was...

a draw ensues and both are forced to stick together to find the teacher as one person

Haruki had trained for weeks leading to the fight harder than he has ever trained. It was the best way to push out the feelings he still felt for his rival. After they had fought both were taken to rest and their cuts bandaged up. Haruki fell asleep as they bandaged him his energy used up in both the swordplay and magic. When he slept his dream went back to a day when they were still best friends. They had snuck onto the roof of a bakery and where lying in the sun talking about how the smells of bread coming up the chimneys near them was almost intoxicating.
He remembered rolling on his side inches from the other. His eyes on the others lips as they talked. Unlike in the memories, his dreams had him move closer to the other lifting him up and their lips where inches from touching when Haruki's eyes opened, his dream ending. He sighs and got up his body hurting because of the cuts and bruises. He pulled on his clothes slowly wincing at the pain and headed out to speak to their teacher. He was slow at walking and he approached his teacher’s tent smiling "What was the end result sir? Who won the rights to venture forth to find the true master?" he asked smiling.
