I came here looking for info on being Athiest.
Is it then wrong to celebrate Christmas, since it is intended as a Christian holiday?
'Cause I celebrate Christmas,but I don't actually believe in a religion.
Mostly it's cause I don't like to think about it very much.
Stuff like what will happen when I die.
Like someone is always judging me
Especially since no one is able to answer these very important questions....
Where did God come from,if there is a God?
And what came first, the chicken or the egg?
And the last one,
How the hell is a raven like a writing desk?

No way. Today, the commonly practiced Christmas is closer to paganism, anyway. My entire family is agnostic or atheistic, and we celebrate Christmas every year as a time to be together and exchange gifts, completely secular.

Because they both can produce a few notes, though they are very flat biggrin

A. No, it's not wrong. I like it because it's a time to get together with family and friends. If you don't buy the whole Jesus story, then don't bother with it. Enjoy the time.

B. God came from the minds of man to fill the gaps of the unknown. Man as a whole refused to let their gods go when more things became known.

C. The egg. Something close to a chicken had to lay the egg with enough genetic difference so that it would grow up to be a chicken.

D. It all comes down to the thought that they both can fly.

One is right.
The other can write.

I'll take it this is where I present myself.
Hi, my name is Mithra and I'm an atheist.
Haha.
Anyway, I came out as an atheist 6 years ago and I haven't had any problems with that. My girlfriend is a die hard catholic and we've been together for a year and a half. I guess that works because we don't discuss religion. I respect her beliefs as long as she respects my disbelief. She'll realize how implausible religion is with time and critical thinking. But I'm letting her discover that on her own. And that's a little bit of what I'm trying to say, atheist and believers can live along as long as we keep our sh*t to ourselves.

Hello,
I'm Skies, and I've considered myself to be a non-believer for about a year. I'm an ex-Christian, I never particularly had a denomination because my mother moved around churches so much. I've recently been starting to really look into this and what changed my mind about Christianity and a deity in general, and why. I'm also interested in learning more specifics about religion, atheism, and myself. biggrin

Hi....

Im a nihlist, and anti-humanist and a transhumanist. I dont really consider religion an issue or an impediment against my beliefs. God and worship is not an issue at all to me... it doesnt even register much in my thought. what does, is the concepts of humanity, right and wrong, future and progress, beauty and truth.

I feel if anything gets me pissed off its not religious fundimentalists, (though they do) its new-atheists, like christopher hitchens.. who believe humanity should erradicate religion from the face of the earth and expect a better world to come of it. I think thats a fool's arrand and an ultimate failure of progress. Science to me is merely a step beyond a system of faith similar to religion. but science has a clear and egalitarian means to arrive at general truths so i think its a step better than religion which holds truth in the hands of elite hierarchies to desseminate and manipulate down to the masses.

Hi, my name is Lara and I'm also an atheist. And have been since I was 16. My mothers side is catholic and very religeous and my fathers side is protestant and kinda religeous as well. I live in a country where the procent who are agnostics or atheist is quite high, so it hasn't been a problem for me.

I might be the eldest here at four and twenty years... Joined last week didn't see this thread till just now.

Anyway, I have "been" an atheist since about 11. In truth, I never really believed it was more like... a fairy tale that I was allowed to participate in the real world. It's hard to critically think of a child's brain though, especially your own since it was soooo long ago...

I'm a perverted old woman... Just... so you know... So if my off color comments bother anyone I apologize... and I will read all hate mail. cry
