I've decided to make this where new Black Veil Brides interviews come out.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 11, 2011 12:05 pm

Okay so right now a new interview just came out with the father of the lead singer himself, Brock Biersack! Yes that is Andy Six's dad. Here is the interview below along with pictures from Epicenter from last year in September.

The Coolest Dad in Rock - Brock Biersack

Black Veil Brides are on the verge. They are just approaching the tipping point, from which point forward they go from being a cool, up-and-coming, niche rock band, to heading down the path to becoming a household name. This would likely make most parents shudder, due to all the black leather, elaborate coifs, and more than just a little makeup. Heck, one might think this would even make their own parents shudder. After all, Black Veil Brides are the type of band that instills fear in parents who tend to judge a book by its cover, without bothering to look inside, to discover they aren't nearly as scary as they look. In fact, frontman Andy Six, has the intelligence, drive and ambition most parents only dream their own kids would have. That was why it was such a delight to discover that not only do Andy's parents support the band, but they are deeply involved in the extended family that is Black Veil Brides. Dad Brock is directly involved in handling a number a fan outreach and street team duties for the band and agreed to answer some questions about what it's like to raise a rockstar.

Andy has made several references about your past, playing in punk bands. What can you tell me about that, and how that may have influenced Andy's path into music?

I sang in several punk bands in my late teens and early 20's, including The Edge and White Lies. We were fortunate to open for legendary punk bands Stiff Little Fingers, Lords of The New Church, Circle Jerks and The Misfits and both of my bands toured from the Midwest to the East Coast. When Andy was very young I was still fronting a band, but, by then it was a bar band called The Members. Primarily, we did cover songs, but, we were the only "bar band" I ever heard of who was doing New Rose, Tin Soldier, Die Die My Darling, Method to My Madness, etc... The first music Andy heard was from albums and cassettes I had of of those great bands and others like The Buzzcocks, The Jam, The Sex Pistols and The Clash. The first concert I ever took him to was Billy Idol.

Both you and Andy have made references to you turning him on to KISS as a kid, and I particularly liked what you said about BVB replacing KISS as your favorite band. Do you think that influence has played a part in the development of the look of the band?

Actually, I think the look of the band is an amalgamation of several influences. There's some KISS in there, obviously. Each of the five band members has created their own look or persona that the band's fans recognize and emulate when they come to the shows. KISS originated that concept and should get their just due. You can also see the "Too Fast For Love" Motley Crue in BVB's look, too. Andy was also a huge Crue fan and that doesn't get mentioned nearly as much as KISS does. But, if you look at old photos of Lords of The New Church and The Misfits, you can definitely see those influences, as well. I think that's what makes BVB different from the glam metal acts of the past. Black Veil Brides is really the first band of the 21st century, made up of musicians who were weened on Warped Tours and punk rock clubs, to have the balls to bring a full out theatrical rock show to those same environments.

What can you tell us about what Andy was like as a little kid?

Always a performer. Can't really recall when he wasn't creating little plays or skits or singing, and always in front of anyone who we had visiting. Andy just never had that shy sense of self that most of us do. I say this in the most admiring of ways, but, Andy just never had any shame. It never occured to him that he wouldn't be good or that you might not want to watch or hear him.

Andy comes off in the press as just unbelievably well-spoken, intelligent, and driven which seems to speak volumes about how he was raised. Has he always been very wise beyond his years?

He's what some people might call "an old soul." He is an only child and, aside from school and youth sports, most of his day to day interaction in his formative years was with grown ups. My wife's parents (both retired) saw him nearly every day while we were working. Grandpa Urban (the voice you hear at the beginning of the We Stitch These Wounds album) is a graduate of Brown University and his Grandma Anne is a Xavier grad and former chemist. His aunts and uncles in Cincinnati are all college educated, as are my wife and I. Ironically, Andy never really saw the value in traditional educational pursuits, but, he is a voracious reader and has an extremely inquisitive mind. Funny/sad story, because Andy lacked the "enthusiasm" for school, the local school district where we live had him tested for mental retardation. When he was told that he got the highest score ever for that particular test, he said, simply, "that's because I'm not retarded."

It's amazing to see how involved your and your wife are in supporting the band, but because they are the type of band that tends to get looked down on by people of your generation, without giving them much of a chance, I am curious what you would say about that to the parents of kids that love the band, or even to your own friends who may not get it?

Actually, I found the reaction to be quite the opposite. Maybe it's because many of the parents that I've spoken to about BVB were at the shows with their kids. Maybe it's because so many parents contact me by e-mail, twitter or myspace to tell me how much Black Veil Brides means to their son or daughter. Maybe it's because Amy and I know the pain and hurt so many of these parents are now feeling every day because their kids are being taunted, teased, ridiculed and bullied and how BVB has been something both positive and in many ways empowering to them. Although I've never cared much about selling BVB to a parent of a kid, if I did, it would be a simple sales pitch. Read their song's lyrics. BVB's songs are about a believing in yourself, overcoming obstacles and the promise of a better tomorrow if you refuse to give in to the challenging times you may be encountering now. Go to a show. See how the band interacts with the fans, both during and after the shows. Spend time watching Andy, Ashley, Jake, Jinxx and CC and observe how they treat your son, your daughter and the other kids who meet them, get their autographs and pose for photos with them. See how they make your kids feel special, safe, welcome. Put aside, just for a moment, the long blue/black hair, the garish stage makeup and the leather, studded attire. See and hear the excitement in your own kid's face and listen to him or her talk to you about how going to a BVB show made them feel. Finally, after all that tell me that you wouldn't be proud as hell to call any one of the members of BVB your son.

Thanks so much to Brock for taking the time.
