From the confines of a small round basket, enchanted to prevent her escape, the missing Elemental princess of Haizea had almost given up hope at being rescued.
How was she, a priviledged royal shut-in set to be engaged to a Viscount, to know that not everyone out side of her sheltered home were kindhearted and trustworthy? Or that a rogue elemental bearing unusual markings (the very markings that identified her as royalty) would fetch a fortune in the black market.
She was to be sold as, of all the indignities, a pet to the highest bidder! Her new owner might want to force her to wear a collar and give her a demeaning name like "Fluffy" while making her live out her days in a gilded cage or behind glass to show off like a museum piece.
"How horrid" she moaned, hating the gloomy turn her thoughts had taken. "PLEASE HELP! I AM BEING KIDNAPPED BY THESE RUFFIANS! THE KINDNESS OF A STRANGER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! PLEASE INTERFERE WITH THEIR HEINOUS THEIVING OF MY PERSON!" she cried at the top of her lungs, banging her fists on the side of her prison.
A prison that was the size of a water canteen as she was in her miniature form, preferring it in fact. Currently she only had four of her elemental forms and she'd been shifting through all of them in an attempt to escape with no luck.
She'd come accross the band of thugs upon entering a dusty town. Seeing them sitting about in front of a decrepit saloon she sought to ask directions toward the nearest adventure. And then the scoundrels had snatched her up like a pilfered penny.
She couldn't even see her surroundings to know if there were any possible bystanders to come to her rescue. She did take heart (and a smart bump to the head) when the ruffian carrying her shook her cage and told her to 'shut yer filthy trap, ye blightin fairy'... Though being called a fairy was quite the insult.

They had made themselves toward the forest in order to make it to the pathway to a town, but just outside the forest, they saw the figure of a creature. "Wha-" They halted, and looked again for the figure that had disappeared. After a few seconds, they pressed on, but slower. Then there was a cry of surprise from the men.
Outside of the canteen, there was a man. Just a simple human, shirtless, with scars about his body. He had his hand outstretched. "Food," he said.
"Wha- you imbecile, like we would give you anything! Asking strangers for food. I would rather cut you to pieces!"
"Water, please." Marcel said then, hand still outstretched and looking at the canteen.
"Never!" One of the men cried, and lashed out at Marcel, who responded by dodging and thwapping the man at the back of the neck, knocking him unconscious.

Panic erupted in the Elemental's heart at the sounds of a struggle. "Please, don't kill anyone! I have water if you can just get me free... and as for the bandits, if you have the upper hand please don't kill the beggar!" she pleaded, bracing herself against the side of her container while she was jostled about.
"Please! I've no wish for blood to be shed. If you intend to kill the beggar spare him and I'll cause you no more strife! I'm sure it could be... erm... Interesting being the pet of a black market buyer"
She fretted and listened closely to the noises outside, unable to determine what was going on outside of the fact there was movement and grunting as well as the sounds of a fight.

The canteen jerked wildly, then felt as if it was thrown into the air. Then caught by some rough hands. There was silence, then the sound of the beggar. "No bloodshed... Go." And then there was the sound of scared cries and scurrying away. Then the canteen was lowered, and the screw came undone, and there was the brilliant light of daytime. Outside there were no more black market dealers, only the face of stone and scars that was the face of the native. He didn't smile, he didn't say a word, only waited for her to get out of the canteen. A few new cuts along his body, but none that would seem to scar like all the others on him.

The Elemental shimmied her way up the side of the canteen and held fast to the side of the opening, hoisting herself halfway out so that she could smile brightly at her rescuer.
She wasn't at all put off by his towering height (to someone that spent most of her time the size of a large dragonfly everyone was a giant) or the grizzly scars that coated his body. His matted mane of hair and stubbled chin didn't raise an eyebrow.
There was nothing at all to be worried about were you to ask the tiny woman. She knew, could see in his eyes, that he was a good man of a sturdy being and strong heart with boundless honor.
"A barbarian!" she chirped, remembering reading about men of his ilk in her library books and hearing tales of them from her teachers. Words did nothing to justify the sight of one and she scrambled out of the canteen to stand on top of it and fearlessly meet his eyes.
"I am Princess Muse Aria Elspeth of the Kingdom of Haizea. I am indebted to you for your bravery and kindness, good sir! Thank you for your chivalrous acts. Might I inquire the name of my valiant savior so I might memorize it? And indeed pay you a favor in my gratitude? You'd spoken of a need for water... Might I offer that as well as a healing to your present wounds?"
Muse, who was in her earthen form, hopped from the canteen onto the man's wrist and climbed up his arm to perch on his shoulder. She was light as a pebble and naked as a bird, though tastefully shielded somewhat by greenery that sprouted from her person to conceal her modesty.
Her bright green eyes sparkled from under a wavy mane of chesnut colored hair and verdant protrusions from her ears, shoulders and hips fluttered like leaves as she moved about.
At the center of her forehead she bore an elaborate mark that looked to be a mix of a tattoo and feathered growth like those on her ears. She was slender but curvaceous as well as beautiful by the standards of humans.

"Hnnnnnnnnnnngh." Marcel looked at her on his shoulder, then raised his finger, poking her lightly. The native had a light tone of pink on his cheeks. "Marcel." Was all he said in response, as if he didn't understand the rest of what she asked him.

Muse laughed and caught onto his finger with both hands, shaking it up and down by way of a handshake. "Nice to meet you, Marcel. You may call me Muse" she chirped.
With a blink she shifted into water form, her body one shaped stream of clear blue water, from the tips of her wavy hair to the end of her toes. She looked the exact same as her other form but without the green leaves, instead modesty shielded with hardened white ice in the shape of a dress.
She jumped down off of his shoulder and as she did she grew, getting to be the size of a 5'5 woman. Cupping her hands in front of her she held her hands up to his lips. "Go on and drink your fill"

Marcel's head went back lightly, his eyes widened a little and his blush a little more prominent. Then he turned around suddenly, and started to leave. "Not thirsty," he said. Truth was, he wasn't thirsty that other time. He knew there was a being in the canteen. He knew whatever it was needed help, and he used the thirsty angle to get the men to attack him in order to knock them out and save the little Elemental. Marcel had plenty of means for food and water. He didn't need help in the least.

Confusion and hurt flickered over Muse's face before she shifted back to her eathen form and chased after Marcel, commanding vines to grow in front of him to impede his path. "Wait! Wait please, Marcel!" she pleaded, catching up to him quickly and gripping his wrist in both hands.
"Please... I know this is sudden but might you be my traveling companion? As you see I'm quite in need of protection" she said, though her masterful manipulation of the forest greenery said otherwise.
"Please... I feel as though I can trust you and I'm indebted to you for your kindness. Might I continue to garner your favor and in turn when my travels are done grant you a wish? Great treasure, longevity, amazing power? I am a royal princess to a long line of nobility but..."
She shifted uneasily and pouted as she recalled her reasons for fleeing from home without escort or weaponry. With a deep gulp of air she looked back up at him, eyes blazing.
"Marcel, you are now my friend and I would like to earn your friendship in turn. Please allow it" she pleaded, bowing at the waist. Her hair fell around her shoulders and she held out her hands to him.
From her palms beautiful and exotic blooms grew and flowed out onto the ground in a seemingly endless boquet. Finally satisfied with a flower pile half her height she gathered the blooms up and held them out to him. "For you"

Marcel's eyes gave off shock and surprise, and then after she finished speaking, hurt and grief. "... I'm dangerous." He told her. "Go home." Home was the place she would be safe. She didn't understand that Marcel was unfit to care for someone so, in his eyes, fragile and rare.

"No you aren't!" Muse protested. She got directly in his face, her small stature not doing much by means of dramatics. Still she was vehement in the denial. "You saved me and I can sense that you are a good man. Let me decide if I you're too much of a threat to me... I'm getting better at judging character" she said.
She held up the boquet for him to take again, refusing to give up. "And safe is overrated anyway. Being a harem girl and a brood mare to some oafish male instead of making my own choices... I'd rather be in danger every day" she huffed.
