Happy New Year everyone! Good to see all you guys. I decided to basically come in here and rant because no one in my immediate vicinity understands the reason I use the word "need" instead of "want." I'm sure a lot of you guys do. My mom was formerly very anti-body mod for a long time and denies it, although I've pointed out to her on several occasions she still openly makes assumptions about people that have extensive tattooing or piercing done. Needless to say, without her I'd be homeless, so I have to keep my tattooing within a range that she deems appropriate, otherwise she can and will kick my a** out on the street. (Unrelated side note, I'm paranoid as hell because she is bustling around the kitchen and I'm sitting at the dining room table typing this. Terrifying to say the least,) Well, in previous forums I claimed I had two tattoos, and Iron an Arc Reactor on my chest and a Cherokee brown bear on my arm. Not entirely true, I claimed I had the Arc Reactor because I assumed I'd have it by now, but money has been tight. SO now I'm in a position with no income, plenty of artwork, and the urge to feel that tug and pull and sting all over again, and I can't. It's simply impossible. I've had all my work quoted by Daddy O of Il Bacio Tattoo but, like I said, no cash. Whenever I bring the subject up with my mom, whether I have the money to do it and I comment about getting it done, or whether I bring up new ideas, her constant reply is "I wish you wouldn't" which is sugarcoated for "I'll put your fat a** on the street if you do." So basically, I have two problems, one psychological that maybe you guys can help me resolve as far as my mom is concerned, and one you really can't, being as I'm sure none of you live within thirty miles and would hire an artist with no work experience. So a little constructive aid please? Also, I have to add my mom has loosened up a lot lately, even asking that I design her a tattoo. On the opposite side of the same token, she says she will get it only once I can pay for it for her ($175) which I believe to her safety net way of never getting it, because I don't have $175 to spend on a tattoo, and if I did, it would be my own.

The best you can do is educate her. Show her that tattoos and pierced don't make you dirty, or unhygienic, it's in fact quite the opposite. Show her that they don't mark you as or make you a criminal, a Hell's Angel, a delinquent, none of that. Show her that tattoos and piercings don't make it so you can't get a job, sometimes it can limit your options, but not by much. There are plenty of great jobs out there that don't mind visible tattoos and piercings. Show her that the huge majority of modded people are parents, lawyers, doctors, they're all tax-paying contributing members of society. It's only the vast MINORITY that give the modded community a bad name.

As for the money thing, don't take this the wrong way, but why don't you get a job? Just an easy job, it doesn't have to be your dream job. I know grocery stores are almost always hiring staff, look into call centers (since a lot of them don't mind tasteful body mods), hell, even fast food. It's not a glamorous job, but it's income nonetheless. And if you're good at it, you can be promoted to management, which always looks good on resumes later for when you do get your dream job.

Thanks for your input Jagger Wolf. Although, to be fair I didnt truly explain my work situation properly. I live in a damn near remote area, with less than 2000 people in my town, and the closest town that has job opportunities is thirty minutes away. I drive a truck, because my Mitsubishi died, and therefor with gas mileage I'd have to making above minimum wage to cover my expenses, not to mention having any disposable income. But thanks again for your input, and I have been trying to educate her for years, but its like talking to a brick wall. sad But I feel she is going overboard to prevent my further modification. Even to the point of she didnt give me ANY cash this Christmas (which is the normal gift, as I have to pay for my gas and oil guzzling dodge) because I stated that, if given enough money, I'd get my next tattoo with it.
