Ok, I went to see the movie weeks ago but I just now am really wanting to write about my thoughts about it.

I think, its absolutely one of the best movies ever, and i usually don't go crazy about movies after the first time ive seen them. But I loved it so much, i bought a rapunzel doll (and its pretty epic, her hair glows and she sings a bit) and my friend game me the soundtrack for my birthday.

I have lots of standards that I think a good movie (especially an animated movie must have) I'll go ahead and list the ones Tangled fufills

1. The hero/heroine must have a great singing voice, especially if its a girl.
2. The songs should be catchy, follow a common theme, but have enough variety. I think that was a flaw with princess and the frog, the songs were ok but quite simalar to eachother. the Tangled songs are all uninque, but they have a positive tone.I like it a lot.
3. I prefer for the heroine to be someone girly. I mean seriously, disney has been ruled by feminists lately and its obnoxious. Rapunzel can't fight, she needs help out in the world, and anyone can beat someone up with a frying pan. Its quite realistic. so thats fantastic.
4. Villians need interesting motives and epic songs. Mother Gothel is so unique. Shes multi dimensional. You know shes bad, but she does care for rapunzel, and she wants is to stay young, simple motives are the best. And mother knows best is a great song, man I love a good villain song.AND it has a reprise. Reprises are so awesome!!!!
5. The guy, should be hot. I totally like self-centered, un-modest, over confident, cartoon guys. Theyre fantastic.
6. Animal friends should not be a big deal. Theyre there theyre cute. But they don't steal the show.
7. That love song where they arent actually singing. Man disney loves those things. I think theyre hilarious. I see the light is a really pretty song, epic mind singing biggrin (Yea these things allways just make me thing "love will find a way" but eh)
8. Blonditude, i'm a sucker for long blonde hair biggrin

Ok but there are flaws. I mean at the end all her hair is gone, and the fluff thats left is brown. BROWN. gonk Ok ok i know its a small thing but I just don't like it, her hair was so fantasmic!!

You know whats funny? My favorite number is 8, and the 8th song on a soundtrack is always my favorite (or the song that strikes me the most when I first see the movie, the healing incantation, ma belle evangeline, that kind of thing) Its pretty awesome

The movie sounds good, but I might wait until DVD/Blu-Ray instead so I save money and can watch it how ever many times I want. I buy mostly Disney now but some non-Disney I also like. Tangled is Disney so I would probably buy it anyways.

Things that make me happy:
-Anything Disney (shirts, coats, anything)
-Trips to Walt Disney World
-and some other miscellaneous things.

With your review it is making me think it will be worth buying on Blu-Ray

I don't understand, Sara. Why don't you like her brown hair at the end? It's so cute! whee

I think you're just racist. scream
Haha, I'm only kidding. I liked the ending a lot, though. It makes me sad that both you and Addie hated it. I really really liked it!

Also, I bought the soundtrack last night. Yay! My sister got a Rapunzel doll too, but ours isn't the one that sings. We saw that one in the Dinsey store, though, and we kept pressing the buttons. rofl

As for me, here are my requirements for a good animated movie:

1.) The villian must be intimidating. I have to hate them so much that I love them. Examples- Frollo, Lotso. It's also cool when they have an AWESOME death scene. Mother Gothel did indeed have an awesome death scene, and the fact that she manipulated Rapunzel made her loathesome(that's a good thing). I can't stand useless lame villians, so Mother Gothel made me happy.
2.) The songs have to be interesting and catchy. Especially the villian's song, which always has to be amazing. Love songs are good too, but it's even better when characters have haunting songs. That's probably why Healing Incantation is my favorite, because it has this haunting quality about it.
3.) I have to like the main dude. Guys like Naveen or Eugene are my favorite, because they're so self-centered! I like being able to fall in love with the guy because I can see in their eyes how much they love the main girl. Does that make any sense?
4.) Speaking of the main girl... I generally don't like main girls in movies. I don't know why. Mainly, I don't like them to be sluts like Marina(from Sinbad) or Pocahontas(in the 2nd Poca). I also don't like when they're jerks like Anastasia. What I liked about Rapuzel was that she was innocent and flighty.
5.) I like it when the voice actors also sing the songs. I have problems with singing voice doubles, just like how I can't stand stunt doubles. It's nice knowing that Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore actually sang the songs, not some other person.
6.) I can't stand annoying pointless side characters. I'm SO happy Pascal and Maximus weren't treated like title characters, because I can't stand it when those types of characters are emphasized. Example? I hate the Gargoyles in HoND, and I hate Meeko in Pocahontas. It's so much better when the little animals aren't that important.
7.) I like to cry when I watch movies. I cry at pretty much everything, so this requirement isn't very hard to accomplish. Though Tangled didn't make me cry... I almost did, though, and I bet I'll cry the second time I watch it. I think the main reason I didn't is 'cause I was running a 102 fever.
8.) I like movies to be interesting and not bore me. But I also can't stand insane chase scenes every two seconds. There has to be a balance, because otherwise I lose interest. I don't feel like expanding my point. razz
9.) I like it when the characters actually have a personality and ACTUALLY FALL IN LOVE. You can't just look at someone and say, "yep, I love them." *cough*Ariel*cough* Rapunzel and Eugene actually GET TO KNOW EACHOTHER before they're getting all lovey-dovey.
10.) Main characters have to have their flaws as well as good qualities. Eugene? He's a kleptomaniac, has sideways morals, and is self-centered. But he's also compassionate and brave. (and has an amazing singing voice whee ) Rapunzel is cowardly, flighty, naive, and easily manipulated. But she also is skilled, determind, and knows her own flaws.

So yeah, that's my opinion. I personally loved Tangled, and while I thought Flynn/Eugene was annoying at the beginnning by the end I thought he was awesome.

Also, I love that his name is Eugene Fitzherbert. whee

hairist, yes, yes I am

I actually dyed my hair blonder to try to match it to rapunzels but now its a bit lighter than hers sweatdrop

Have you noticed how disney movies all follow the same basic outline? It makes super predicable if youve been paying attention. Of course there are exceptions.

First you have your hero/heroine who wants what they don't have, and has some sort of plan to achieve said dream. The hero shares their problem with the villain of the story who typically proposes some sort of solution, could be a deal, or a suggestion, in any case its obviously going to backfire. At this point our hero will be wisked off to a new location, where they will meet someone, either a friend, or a romantic interest. They will initially dislike eachother. they will proceed to go on some sort of adventure to solve both of their problems, and will fall in love along the way. Cue the brain singing love song, almost kiss a couple of times but of course get interpreted. Then some sort of misunderstanding occurs, theyre mad at each other and the villian seems to win. But alas! Some side character does something useful! And our heroes are reunited (sometimes this means a real kiss, but thats typically saved for the end) and the villian is destroyed, or left to some humiliating fate. If the heroes are human, they will most likely get marries, if animals they will have something to symbolize theyre lifelong love (a baby perhaps). And then, awesome credit songs, disney always has great credit songs . . .cept for PATF, ugh.

Wow that was a lot of typing, and I know I still missed things

Mad Hatters Revenge

I ADORED TANGLED. Thought I disagree with a couple of points made so far.

1) I really didn’t see many ‘feminist’ heroines out of Disney other than Mulan (who really wasn’t even trying to be equal, she was just trying to save her fathers butt from war and just didn’t like getting all dressed up and pretty because she was a clutz.), and I honestly felt like she wasn’t super girly. Sure, she had long beautiful hair, nice dresses, but she ran around barefoot the whole movie, which, is not very girly. Disney has plenty of girly characters out there, but they also understand that realistically there are just as many girls who don’t want to be girly and won’t enjoy the movies as much if at some point, there’s a heroine they feel they can relate to. Mulan was the first one I ever felt connected to, and I think like a lot of girls, it’s because she went in not looking for love, and managed to find it anyway, which seems like the most romantic way to do it. That’s why I loved Tangled and The Frog Princess so much, neither of them were going about their crazy adventure to find their prince, they were doing it for the dreams they had about their lives, and managed to fall in love along the way.

2) Anastasia isn’t a Disney film, so it’s not fair to compare Disney stories to her. It’s by 20th Century Fox's Fox Animation Studios and Don Bluth (The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail , The Land Before Time and Gary Goldman.

3) I feel like the side kicks DO steal the show. They SHOULD BE title characters. Of course everyone’s worried about what the main characters are doing, but they ALWAYS have HUGE parts, I feel both and Maximus had a bigger impact on the story than Meeko did. It’s an important part of the lesson in the story! Kids can’t grow up thinking life is all about them and they’re friends are just side kicks and it doesn’t really matter what’s going on with them because their life revolves around yours. It showed someone OTHER than the main character having control over situations in the movie (taming the horse, getting the boys to behave, Mother Gothels death, ect.) It showed how they were in the end of the movie to remind others that the story ISN’T just about the main characters.

3) No realistic guy would be THAT self-centered and magically fall in love and completely change for a crazy girl. Yes, people fall in love, they might stop being bad people because of it. Abusive relationships last when the girl believes that deep down he’s like prince charming and will change his ways. Not even physically abusive, I’ve seen hundreds of girls worship their boyfriend and treat him like a God, simply because they feel like this magical moment will happen where they change and care more about the girl than themselves. I like their main guys, I like that each one has had different traits, I like when there’s a reason they do bad things, I don’t like that people read it wrong. All of the princes had flaws, they either didn’t see something, didn’t realize something or didn’t get somewhere until it was too late. Think about it, he was A THEIF. He was stealing from people FOR HIS OWN DESIRES. Would you hang out with a man after you found out he was stealing thousands of dollars so he can have a really nice place of his own? I’m not trying to bash the Disney love stories, just defend what kind of princes they have in their stories, they all work, he wasn’t the best just because he was flawed, he was only the best because he had a change of heart while many of the others were in love since the beginning which many look down upon these days. Sure love at first sight may not be possible now, but it was what everyone believed in once upon a time before the world grew cold, hearts were broken, and one by one we stopped believing. I wouldn't say I loved my boyfriend at first sight, but the moment I saw him I wanted to talk to him, I wanted to learn his name, just wanted to learn more, something compelling me to get closer, we may not feel in love at first sight, but we always feel it's possibility.

4) I don’t think Mother Gothel ever cared for Rapunzel, her main focus was on the girls hair. She kept her locked up so her hair wouldn’t get cut. She followed after her to try and stop her. She sent Eugene to his death and broke Rapunzels heart for her hair. Then when Rapunzel wanted to leave, chained her up, killed Eugene in front of her, and only let her go because she promised she’d quit fighting. Like all good villians, she really didn’t give a damn about anyone but herself.
