The new year has started on the lunar calendar. Although Japan now uses the the same calendar as the U.S. now and the animals have already rotated to them, for other Asians, today is the first day of the Year of the Rooster!

Furuba heart for all!

Mine's in the mail. My Dad's sending it to me. Apparently I get money until I get married. Then even if you get divorced, the fact that you got married shows that you're independent or something and therefore don't need to get money.

Woo, I saw some of the festivities on T.V, it looked like an awesome event. I hope I can one day go to China to witness a New Year festival/parade/event thing. X)

Parades and stuff are more of a new thing mainly in America. I think they might've added it to China to cater to tourists because foreigners began expecting it. sweatdrop They did lion dances and stuff, but it was more like a random thing where they'd just walk down the streets to rid evil and bless shops and stuff. No parade or anything. Parades at least the ones in the U.S. are more of an Asian pride thing and an attempt at making the country a bit more culturally diverse, but isn't a traditional way of celebrating. sweatdrop Fireworks, firecrackers, and lion dances are, but most everything else was something made up to cater to people who know nothing about Chinese culture and tourists.

XD You don't have neighbors that set off fire crackers early in the morning do you? One of my best friends did and his AIM away message complaining about it was kind of funny. My grandma usually sets them off right after midnight. sweatdrop
