So I told myself I wouldn't touch my NaNo novel with any seriousness until January. But January is REALLY soon. And I'm loathe to get down to business. I'm kind of idling over this one morbid torture scene...

One of my New Years resolutions is to finish the novel, but at this rate I'll be using next year's NaNo to finish it mad Which is fine! But I was just wondering if anyone else was having this problem, or if they had the same resolution, or if they have any fixes / contests / ideas for remedying the laziness. (Perhaps another Writing Month, guild-contained, is in order?)

In an ideal world, I'd go back and fix all my plot disasters, cut the excess characters, and finish the second half (or last two thirds? I think I've got a long way to go, frankly) as soon as January started.

In reality, I'll probably abandon the thing.

If you want ideas for the laziness, I like to leave index cards with angry capslock messages ("HEY a*****e WHY AREN'T YOU WRITING", etc.) written on them in places where I'm likely to see them, such as on the back of my bedroom door. Also, changing my desktop background to something related to my novel. For instance, this was my desktop through the whole month of November-- a super low-fi image with a quote from the NaNo Procrastination Station thing-- which meant that any time I was on the computer and not typing words into a word processor I was aware of the fact that I wasn't writing.

Another writing month would be interesting, and I might be able to do it... I'm really missing the NaNo site's graphs and averages and whatnot, though. That sort of thing really helps me for some reason.

My novel needs a total rewrite. I don't know if I'm up for that yet... but I probably should.

Maybe gifting myself Scrivener will be motivation!

Its been an entire month since I finished and almost an entire month since November ended. If I'd edited every day, I'd been done a long time ago.. LONG time ago... I can't seem to focus enough crying

i agree with the idea that more group support would be helpful. i found the mass stress of fellow writers during November very motivational to write myself, since i tend to feel that way anyways, but generally i don't have that many writers around to share the pain.

I think there's an element of accountability to doing it along with so many others, as well. I need that sometimes-- I often have trouble caring about whether I, personally, succeed, but I hate disappointing others who're rooting for me.

And yeah, the stress of other writers was so much more helpful than I imagined it would be. I was about to give up when I went into the complaints forum at the official site; as I looked at the threads I thought, "Whoa! So many other people feel the same way. In that case, it's stupid to quit." And somehow I did 50k.

An RL friend of mine who only realized she wanted to do NaNo halfway through NaNo is working with me to pick a month so we can both do our own 30 days of writing without waiting for next November. Right now we're thinking about February, and a different friend or two have expressed interest as well. Would anyone with other writing projects here be interested in joining us?

If you have your novel finished you could do the 750/day instead. Y'know, just too keep people writing and all. :)
