Put ideas for ornaments here. Ornaments and lights are two of my most favorite parts of the holiday. I'll go first.
Okay, this is more from an idea for an art installation rather than Christmas ornaments, but it'll do.
What you need:
> Empty craft Christmas ornaments (plastic or glass)
> Tiny living things
Examples: Fly in your apartment, a very cold worm or some ants, maybe a bee or two if you're a bee keeper, some berries, a flower, a caterpillar (I found a very lucky wooly bear caterpillar living in my buddies' basement and brought him upstairs to munch on some grape, tortilla chip, and Christmas cookie crumbs in the toasty kitchen during our end of the semester party), or, if what you're hanging the ornament from is sturdy enough, some water and a feeder fish! I've also used feathers before, as they only exist because something lived for those feathers to grow and be used for flight. Likewise, a shark tooth, a claw, or snake skin would do.
What you do:
> Put the lime in the coconut (but don't shake it all up if it's a critter)
> Hang it up. Christmas is about life (Christ if you're a Christian, children), love (family and friends, God if you're religious), and light (Christmas lights, wisdom and life experience that you have gained each year, the star). These are essential things. Imagine how lovely your tree will look when it has all of these things.
> Take it down if the critter needs to be released. I don't want to offend any fellow animal rights folk, but the feeder fish is probably better off on the tree (at a distance from any heat-radiating lights) than down the toilet or waiting to be fed to a larger fish, right? Put in in a lake or aquarium if you can when you're done. Return any ants or caterpillars, etc. to their natural habitat, and thank them for a job well done. (Thank you, Mr. Ant!)
> Take pictures so you can remember it and post so I can see them!
