This is a roleplay where normal canines, from dog to wolf to coyote and everything in between, learn to survive and protect their homelands.

Long ago there was no "man." There was only predator, prey, scavenger, and nature. Even with a great variety of creatures spread all over, there was a balance that couldn't be broken. Prey would flood the land, predator would kill for himself or for his family, scavenger would take the remains, and nature kept the populations at the right numbers to keep the lands healthy.
Then something unnatural invaded the animals' homes. Man. As they entered new places, these humans took what they pleased, killed - for the joy or for food and fur - as they liked, and comletely detiriorated many lands.
Animals - no matter where their place on the food chain - fled or fought. Most died, some managed to escape. Those that died became trophies or food for the humans. The rest were either captured - forced to breed to make hunters for the humans, becoming slaves, slowly being tortured and killed - or chased away to hide until night from these new beasts.
Now it has become a war between Man and Animal. Many are not up to the challenge, but one pack of various canines have stepped up to take on the burden.
Both have had casualties and have lost many. Although both are weak and injured from many a battle, neither side will give in until the other is wiped out or completely and utterly surrenders.
Join the battle. Choose a side. Fight until this war is won!

Rules
1. Follow the Gaia ToS and this Guild's Rules.
2. Romance and violence is allowed, but only up to PG-13. Take cyberring to the pms, if you must.
3. No godmodding, flamming, auto-hitting...Anything along those is looked down upon in this roleplay.
4. Don't kill another person's character without their permission and mine.
5. Profiles: Post them in the appropriate forum. I will constantly be checking it for new characters, edits, etc.
Do not post until I've posted that your character(s) are accepted. They will also be listed in the appropriate post in this forum (forest pack, village, loner, etc).
6. This a semi-literate to literate roleplay. So more than 3 sentences, please. Third person posts are required.
7. When your character talks put them in "Text". Don't use *Text* for action.
8. Use ((Text)), {{Text}}, [[Text]], or IITextII when speaking out of character.
9. NO chat or Im speak or anything like that.
10. Please be active and post. Don't join and never make an appearance.
11. Be respectful to other gaians. Don't take other characters' actions literally. If their character happens to hate yours, it doen't mean anything personal. We're all decent and nice people right?
12. There is no limit to how many characters you can have, but please be able to manage all the ones you control.
13. I'm god in this roleplay, what I say goes. Rules can be changed/modified as I see fit.

Info on Canines
* All canids are quadrapeds (four-legged), with non-retractable claws, long muzzles, keen senses of smell, sharp eyesight, and double-coats.
* When communicating, canines use various tones and calls to relay general and specific messages. When roleplaying you can use: growl, howl, snarl, bark, spat, yelp, whine, whimper, bay, roar, grunt, woof, yap, yip, cry, snap, yowl, or any synonym of these words.
* Dogs show dominance and submission in respect to those of other ranks around one another.
Signs of dominance are: raised head, ears, and tail; curled lips to reveal teeth; sometimes raised fur...
Signs of submission: lowered tail, head, fur, body; rolling onto back to expose belly and throat; licking the dominant canine's muzzle, but keeping rear on ground...
Signs of fear agression: fur raised, lowered body, intense focus....
* Pack Ranks
Canines of all kinds - unless a solitary species like the fox - live in packs. Each has ranks to keep members in their place and to keep order among the pack.
Alpha: Lead pair, generally are the only ones allowed to breed. Sometimes exceptions are made for lower ranking members to be allowed to breed - however mates or bonds are still formed among pack members. Only two canines - one male, one female and always mated- can make up the Alpha rank.
Beta: Second-in-commands, this pair does most of the organizing among other pack members. They are there to help when the Alpha pair cannot. Only two for this rank - one male and one female, not always mates.
Healer: A canine skilled with helping others in advice and with herbs of various kinds. This is a single canine, although he or she can take a mate.
Gamma/Hunter: The average pack members - may be because of submission, age, or just because the canine(s) don't want to or haven't gotten the opportunity to gain rank. They are the main providers for the pack, becoming scouts, border guards, and the main hunters. This is unlimited in number.
Pups: The youngest members of the pack. These canines are considered to be in the "puppy stage" until around a year old - which is when they become yearlings/adolescents and become gammas or leave the pack. This is unlimited, but needs to be realistic for pack size (meaning 12 pups in a 5 member pack won't have all 12 make it - generally).
Omega: The lowest of the low. Sometimes an outsider who has come into the pack or just a really submissive canine. These poor fellows are the ones to be blamed, picked on, and beaten first. There are generally 0-2 omegas in a pack and can be of either gender - although rarely are they able or allowed to take mates.

Forest Pack
This pack resides in the territory below the mountains. The area is covered in lush forests that thrive even in the harsh winters of the north. Their home ranges from right below the mountains, holds the humans' village, and runs along the river that comes from the waterfall to flow west. For a wolf pack territory, it is one of the largest due to troubles with hunting with the humans and dogs competing with them plus natural predators like bears, mountain lions, and the occasional lynx or bobcat. Also with the increase of members, the territory has to be able to support the wild canines as best as possible.
This pack may end up moving into the mountains, if Alia finds it safer. What they don't know, though, is that there may be more enemies rather than allies up the rocky cliffs.

The Mountain Pack
This pack resides in the wide and trecherous mountain range. This area is full of dangers but just as many benefits. The abundance of prey is unique to this mountain range - for reasons unknown to humans and animal alike, although wolves believe its through the blessings of their ancestors and deceased. Along with plenty of food to eat, the mountains are safe from human or animal invaders - as the way up is deadly and the winter brings dangerous ice and snow. The drawbacks are the fierce winters that bring blizzards and snowstorms that will slow or stop the wolves for days to weeks at a time. Along with that, the mountain lions and bears find the mountains just as safe a haven as the wolves in this pack do. Competition is fierce and encounters aren't all that rare.
Their range spans most of the mountain as the pack has to move often to follow prey and escape the terrible weather. What this pack doesn't know is that a new pack may be coming their way and bringing aggressive enemies with them - humans and their dogs.

The Dogs of the Village
These are the owned canines. Some are pure dogs, some mutts, some pure wolves. They live under the humans, aiding them with the hunt, defending the home, working in general - such as sled pulling, carrying messages/notes to another village or to someone else in town, etc - as well as attacking the wolves who threaten their "masters."
Like their ancient and wild cousins, the dogs bear a pack structure, although most ranks are more loose. Still there is order within the ranks, with few rebellions or challenges for higher ranks.

The Loners
These canines - whether dog or wolf or anything in between - have no home and no place to go. Some left their previous homes purposefully, others were forced out. They roam the area, trying to make a living for themselves as best as they can.
Sometimes these lone beasts will try to join another pack or village home, although they are not always accepted or allowed to live. Their lives are tough and never fulfilling. It is sad to be a loner, but some have toughed it out and refuse to give up.

Moon Runners Pack - Coming Soon
This is the pack of the deceased. Whether good or bad, these canines have died and come up to become stars that watch over their living kin. Although ranks are less strict among the dead, there is still order and a hierarchy. Some of these canines can communicate to those living (must talk to me about it first).

Season
The current season is winter.
Life up north in the snow and ice season is difficult. Some days are slightly warmer - temperatures running up to 30 degrees farenheit. Winds get up to 60 miles per hour. Storms come and go - often with little warning.
At the height of winter, the total amount of snow and ice can get up to 30 feet in some areas. Every water source from the creeks to the massive lake and rivers are frozen through with little to no thaw.
