Personally my family is not involved in my tarot interest in the slightest. I don't do readings for them, and I'm not even sure if they even know about it. Either way I'd rather they don't know because they might get paranoid if they start thinking I'm using them to spy on them. As for my friends, a lot of people in high school knew because I started in 9th grade. Did a lot of readings on people to practice, so word just got out I was into that. However I don't mention it much other than here on Gaia it seems. I think I really am defensive about who I want knowing or not haha. Mostly because I don't want people taking advantage of that aspect, which has happened before. I've had some friends just fall into relationship issues and they keep coming to me for readings thinking I can magically fix it. But overall I'm silent because there's no reason to bring it up anyways.

How about yourself? Guarded personal secret? Or are you more open and talk about?

Hmm I've told my sisters about it, though I think they seem skeptical about the cards being able to do anything. Yet I'm pretty sure I can talk one of them into sitting back while I do a reading for them, as they are pretty nice about most things I do.

Though my mother and father on that subject is an entirely different story. My father doesn't know anything about the cards, nor have I bothered to tell him because I don't think it would interest him. lol He's a good father but cards isn't his thing regardless of what kind of cards they are.

Then there's my mother whom is the ignorant type. I haven't really bothered to tell her for I'm pretty sure that she would see it as something related to the devil, whatnot,... Or really just a big waste of money.

But regardless of how my family may really feel, I don't feel it's necessary to divulge anything about the cards unless they got interested in my hobbies for once. They're not really a secret or was even meant to be, and if they asked about them, I would tell them in the best way I could describe about tarot.

My immediate family is against it wholeheartedly. When my mother found out about my cards, she would not allow me to keep them in the house and if she saw them, they would either be burned or thrown away. My little sisters are no better as they were pretty much mini-moms at the time and would tell on me if they saw them. Before our Biology final, the middle sister and I were bored so I offered to use my cards for solitaire (They hate that, but seem to be resigned to it now) and after that, she basically refused to be seen with me. The whole father's side of my family is religious and see them as the devil's work. Luckily, I'm not living with them anymore.

My friends are pretty open to it and I even got some of them their first deck or let them borrow the Spiral Tarot to help teach them. I wish most of them weren't in a different state. I'm starting to be a bit more open about it to people outside of my boyfriend's family since although they are into the supernatural and stuff, they seem iffy about tarot cards for some reason. I'm planning on talking to them about it soon, but I don't know how to bring it up.

My mom knows. She hates it, but since I don't live with her, I can keep them. But if I lived with her, just like with my first deck it would mysteriously go missing one day even if I had a designated spot for it. She has her reason that I respect but I still don't think its a good idea to throw out stuff if its not yours....

My friends love it and come to me regularly for readings. They really enjoy them and it gives me practice sometimes.
