So how did you obtain your cards?

-Ordered them used/new online?
-Got them from a friend?
-Bought them in a store?
-Made them yourself?

What's the story behind how you obtained your deck. Or if you have multiple decks, how you went about obtaining each one of them.

I was with at a Renaissance Fair, actually in Wisconsin and I had been there the year before and remember the Tarot booth drawing me in and whatnot because he offered all kinds of different types but I really didn't have the money for them at the time.
So the second time I went I remembered to make getting a deck my goal, and when I was talking to the guy, my friend who was with me got some interesting rock symbol reading done because the guy running the stand wanted some practice.
While she was getting a mediocre reading from that, I was checking out all the cards and none of them really appealed to me or anything and I asked the guy if that was all he had when he finished her reading.
You could practically see the light bulb above his head when he ran to the back and brought up Voyager Tarot in a box and I really really liked them.
Afterward he mentioned that the outside box was a LITTLE damaged from the rain (and it was barely marked up at all on the outside box) so he would sell if half-off price, and because my friend bared with him for the stone reading practice, he gave me this nice tote to store my cards in when I got them out of the box and whatnot.

I got pretty lucky because without the money he took off I wouldn't have been able to afford it, nonetheless food later on either.

I bought mine as new online through the aeclectic site out of many, many, many different selections. Just searched for hours until I saw one that really sprung out to my interests, fit with my newbieness, and look like something that any querant regardless of age/interest would like to recieve a reading from. d:

Yay for the Fey Tarot :3

Other than that, there's no real major story other than how I suffered for what seemed like 5 weeks in waiting for the cards to arrive. sweatdrop

Well I have 4 tarot decks, 3 of which I got this year because I've had a sudden huge re-interest in Tarot again.

Celtic Dragon-
This was my first, I got it in 9th grade around fall/winter I think. I bought it from a Border's Express in the mall. I looked at all the decks they had out, and for whatever reason, only this one stood out and caught my interest. This was back in 2000? So it's been at least 10 years or so that I've had them. They've gotten really old though, faded and dirty quite a bit from years of use, so I ended up buying them again online for cheaper than I paid for them years ago haha. So essentially I have two of these, one in storage and one in use.

Dream Inspirational Cards-
There's actually this store in another town that I've known about for years, I just never have gone. They specialize in metaphysical stuff, they have a garden cafe, a psychic/tarot business, and a gift store selling tons of books and stuff all rolled into one. I went there to see what they had and was pretty impressed. They had a lot of feminine decks IMO, nothing that really stood out or seemed interesting. However two decks caught my eye, the first being these Dream cards. Which I thought was a regular tarot deck but it turned out to be an oracle deck that required a lot of work. I actually freaked a bit looking through them because I wasn't sure at first if I could even use them like tarot cards. It really set the tone this year and encouraged me to acquire a few more because I really enjoyed using this deck because it sparked my imagination quite a bit.

Shadowscapes Tarot-
I bought this one because it was on sale on Amazon, plus it came out recently in May 2010 I think. So it was nice having something new and fresh to work with. It's an absolutely gorgeous deck, each card is a work of art with so much detail. Card stock is the worst out of all my decks, but I didn't expect to use this one so much. I got it because I was going to work with another person who bought the deck as well. We got it in the mail about the same time haha xD I learned it pretty well after a month of using it, I'm still trying to help my friend with it.

Tarot of Atlantis-
Got this one from that same store I got the Dream cards from. I saw it on the shelf and it kept catching my eye, and I looked up the cards online, and I was just confused on what to do. So I just got it so I wouldn't think about it haha. Perhaps one of the most challenging tarot decks I've had to use out of all of these.

The Spiral Tarot was my first deck. I bought it from Barnes and Noble online along with a few other books so my mother wouldn't suspect anything. It is currently sleeping in a box wrapped in a cloth waiting for someone to show interest in learning the tarot.

I bought the Gothic Tarot from thetarotgarden.com. They have a wonderful selection and after a few problems with my order were worked out by email, the deck was delivered within a week.

I had bought the Revelations Tarot in Reno Nevada while a friend and I were visiting for another friend's birthday party. My friend and I along with the birthday girl and her brother all bought a deck with a 25% discount from my Borders card. <3 This deck currently belongs to my friend since his was being testy for a while.

I bought the Robin Wood Tarot from borders as well. It gave off the feeling that it wanted to be out of that store and responded well with my energy. It is sitting in the closet in a box since it doesn't seem to be good at divination. It seems to be more for spellwork.

I had been watching the Shadowscapes Tarot for about a year before it came out. I was drawn to its artwork so after it came out, I searched nearby for it online and found that the local Barnes and Noble had only one in stock. I bought it that day before anyone else could.

I was in a rut for quite a while. I had known I was good at readings, but I wanted to take it to the next level. I'm sure you know that point. I had a bit of birthday money so I headed to Barnes and Noble again and found the Thoth deck there for a nice price. I had read that it is a difficult, yet incredibly intuitive and accurate deck so I bought it. I'm still trying to figure it out but I'm hopeful.

My first deck, I bought in New Orleans during mardi gras.It was later thrown out by my mom when I moved out. They were a small deck, like too small to even shuffle, and I didn't really like the art much...

My feng Shui deck I bought at an anime con in Chicago. I thought I would enjoy it and understand it easier because I'm used to the asian culture, this was not the case.

My fairy deck (which I gave away eventually*) I bought in Arizona at a flea market. The art was beautiful... but my friend was better at reading them, so I gave them to her.

My Current deck (Nova) I got from a friend when I moved to Texas, same deck as my first but bigger. It took me a long time, but I finally understand and communicate with my deck really well.

I have a mermaid deck I bought from the nearby comic shop. I haven't touched them yet, but when I stared at the cards, I understood them immediately. They're definitely MY deck. But I don't think its time for me to use them.

And lastly I have Clow Cards which I found at a second hand shop. They don't really talk to me... but I have gotten some interesting answers from them when I need specifics answered.

There's this small stone shop that I normally visit for when I order jewlary and such, and they have tarot there. Everytime I went there I would look at the tarot cards and think about them. I read books on them, but never really had the guts to buy a serious $30 set of cards. I wanted to make sure this would be more than just a phase. There was a moment where I was in that store and something just felt different about it. I went to the tarot selection and saw the new arrival of the Zen deck. Immediatly I was drawn to it and the theories behind it and the different cards and artwork and everything just really came together for me. I'm normally a thinker when it comes to dropping more than $20 on something, but I bought that deck the same day I saw it.

Ever since then, it's been my main deck that I use. =)

I was in borders one day and I had been looking for a tarot deck and was looking at some tarot books when this deck of cards randomly fell off a shelf and hit me on the head. It soon became my first deck of cards and the only ones that have ever really "spoke" to me. I bought them because when I picked them up off the floor they had this really positive energy that matched mine. heart I've had this deck for six years now, and still use it. It is my main deck. Well it's my only deck, since I have found I don''t need another deck. I have two decks that are the same. One for myself and the other is used when I do tarot readings for other people.
