I forgot where but I had replied to a post "Atheists need to shut the hell up!" and I can't believe how insulted I was. First off, the one thing I never do Is single anyone out. That's not how you win arguments. I mean, you can't just say us atheists need to shut up because we admit who we are and we differently don't go around like most religious people trying to spread our faith. I can go on and on but I would like to see what you guys think.

There is a large group of people who not only like to follow their beliefs, they also believe that they must convince everyone to live the same way. If that fails, then they feel they have to legislate their morality. That is what you call a theocracy and it is terribly un-American

When people are weak in their faith, they can't stand to hear any criticism. Unfortunately for them, some of the most brilliant minds of our time were atheists or belonged to religions other than Christianity, so they feel very defensive. Sux2Bthem razz

I think everyone should just calm down about the religion thing. If you go around crusading against, say, Christianity, you're just sinking down to the zealot's level.
You become a complete and utter moron when you begin an attempt to force an religion on someone. Saying that one relion is better than the other, carrying on about how "God" is false and such counts as trying to force an idea or religion on someone.

Lancer Cobra That is really un-american. Don't be so sure about that. From a European perspective, it is PERFECTLY American. See, there are so few religious fundamentalists here that most people do not even know what creationism IS. And if they do, they know that it's a sad joke. There are no televangelists, no witnessing missionaries ringing at your door and handing over Chick tracts, no Campus Crusade, no general neurosis regarding all things sexual, and no born-again presidents trying to bring freedom to the world by invading other countries.

Saying that one relion is better than the other, carrying on about how "God" is false and such counts as trying to force an idea or religion on someone. That's why we're talkin about it here in the guild, away from most christians. It's good to vent sometimes and we don't have to worry too much about offending somebody like we would if we had this discussion in ED

I have no problem with people expressing their beliefs, it's a free country. Hell, we're all here expressing our opinions in every post. I don't accept, however, door to door religion salesmen. If I wanted to buy a faith, I wouldn't want to buy it from someone who feels it's necessary to sell their God to me. Expression is one thing. Jamming your faith down my throat is another.

I don't like it when people reply to a post with the idea that we should shut up or calm down about some issue. I seen it done here. I won't leave the religion issue alone because the people who dedacate themsleves to it won't leave me alone. Plus, it's a free country(sort of) and I recall that they're are no rules in this forum just as long we have manners. So I will bring up whatever I want. I'm not angry at any of you, just some members of Gaia that say we should just forget about something because it's not a big deal. It is! Tell that to Dr. Martin Luther King. "Just calm down, I'm sure justice will come for you some day. But you should stop holding protests and giving speechs.

Once, Jehovas Wittneses came to my house trying to spread their faith. They said that it was worth my time so I told them if they wanted my time they would have to mow my lawn, AND THEY DID! I listened to what they said after that. I never became a Jehovas Witness becauser i'm agnostic but I can tell you one thing. Christians would'nt mow my lawn, believe me I tried. ROFL! rofl

every body runs on and on about nasty mormons and JW's but they never say anything bad about mouthy atheists.
yet if you look around gaia, the place is full of them..
they're so smug, as if they have a corner on rationality and correctness, and can freely diss anybody else without backing it up with reasoned discussion.
there is anti christian bias here. atheists get a free pass.
