Bleary eyed and barely awake, Zo tumbled out of her bed. She was tired. Dead tired. She didn't want to wake up. Her dream had been so real! And the previous night's activities were strenuous to say the least. She just didn't feel like getting up and mulling about another day. It wasn't that Zo didn't like her life. She loved it to say the least. Living fast and rough, scars and bruises and the fresh rush of a miraculous kill; Zo was always high on that adrenaline rush. But this morning she had crashed hard and she wanted nothing more than to fall asleep. Her jaws stretched in a wide yawn as she rolled off the delicious warmth of her bed. She'd have to move her bum eventually. Bsides, her mother and father wouldn't be pleased if one of their eldest decided to laze about all day. Shaking hair from her eyes, Veronica Corenola stood on her own two feet. Yawning as the material from her silken nightdress clung to her frame, Zo moved. She didn't particular care for her first name 'Veronica'. Zophelia had been the name of her gypsy grandmother and it had always had a sort of charm to it that 'Veronica' lacked. Bright blue eyes blinked once and then twice before she decided against calling for a maid to help dress her. She's be just fine on her own. Tugging out a simple black frock, Zophelia dressed herself and quickly brushed out her hair. The short cut was easy to manage and by slipping a silk scarf in to keep her bangs at bay, Zophelia was already to go without much effort. Smiling softly, she slipped her feet into a pair of ballet flats and reached for a dark cloak. Blades of mercy hidden on her person, Zophelia reached for a pair of fingerless gloves, glad to be ready to leave hte house. Naturally being an early riser didn't help when you were tired. But Zo's body never complained, so she supposed she didn't need to change anything. Stretching her jaws once more in a ferocious looking yawn, Zophelia walked silently from her room, taking little notice of the soft scuffling of feet coming from her little brother and sister. Hood pulled up atop her face, Zophelia moved gracefully from her house, grateful for the fact that she wasn't stopped.
She was noticed definitely by everyone in the house, that much was obvious. Growing in an environment where death is the family business tended to do that to you. The Corenola family had been controlling the lives and deaths of aristocrats in Italy for as long as anyone could remember. Well, along with the Versulo family that was, but Zophelia prefered not to think of them and how their families always tended to be at war with each other. Zophelia herself didn't quite know how the feud had begun. She had asked the question various times to her grandparents, to her parents and older siblings, but the eighteen year old assassin never quite knew how or why it had begun. Stretching out her arms, Zo let them rest back at her side. Beneath the cover of her cloak hid blades and poisons an of course the ocassional piece of dried fruit. In her search for such fruit, Zophelia found herself unlucky. She sighed; she'd just have to get something when she arrived in town. Chewing lightly on her bottom lip, Zo's bright blue eyes flickered across the road she walked on. It was gravelly, not the best for shoes such as hers, but whenever she needed clothing her mother made sure they were made with strong material. And considering the fact that blood never quite faded from silk or from satin, those two materials were always out of the question unless nessecary. Occasions like parties, like balls, and sometimes for a trip to a different country; Paris or England.
Zophe yawned once more when she finally arrived in town. Her cloak fell from her head, and she didn't quite mind. Her face wasn't regocnizable as death by those in her native town. Always a help so that she and her family didn't frighten the locals. It was autumn in her little Italian village and chill was just beginning to creep into the air. Leaves were turning slowly yellow and then orange. Soon they would turn scarlet and then fall from the trees, crisp and taut enough for her younger siblings to jump into piles of them whenever they pleaesd. Zophelia grinned as she moved silently, making her way through the crowd. Oh, how she loved her little village. Zo sighed, not feeling much need to tug her hood back up. She'd be just fine like this. If she was correct in her recon from her last mission, there were no Versuolo's to be entering the area for another few months. But then, information like that changed from time to time. Recon was always the hardest part of Zophelia's job. Information changed so quickly, it often got hard to keep up. But the dark haired beauty was quick-witted and she was almost always able to stay on top of things. She wasn't the best at doing so. Her late sister Anjelica always had been. Anjelica had been far lovlier than Zo as well, especially in the eyes of her mother. Anjelica looked more like their father's mother than anyone in the family. With big green eyes and waves of auburn hair, the girl had been the loveliest thing to grace the Corenola family. At least she was until her death. Ever since Anjelica's accident, Zo's mother hadn't really cared for her favorite daughter's younger sister. Zo was an almost mirror image of her gypsy grandmother; crystal blue eyes and hair so dark and thin it 'made the midnight sky jealous'. A fair complexion and petit by nature, by no means was Zophelia not pretty. Just not as pretty as Anjelica was and that simply wouldn't do for Zo's mother. Shaking the thoughts from her mind, Zophelia bundled up a handful of her cloak in her hands. Image issues had come from her mother as had a short phase of bulimia. Long ago had she given up on trying to please her mother (the dying of her hair, the tanning of her skin, trying to thin herself by heaving meals, etc) and had more so focused on being better with her tasks, with her missions. That had pleaesd her father and made her mother's judging glance pass over onto some other unfortunate soul. Shoulders sagging, Zophelia continued moving through the little town, not quite sure where she was going but sure she'd knew when she got there.

If one were to ride horseback north from the village where the Corenola's resided, they would come across a similar town one hour away. This was where the Versuolo's dwelled and their small mansion could be seen from quite a distance. Most of the townspeople assumed the family was somehow involved in the trading business since they were always coming and going, but their real occupation couldn't be further from the truth. Mr. and Mrs. Versuolo were highly trained and well experienced assassin's and all four of their children had followed in their footsteps. Two sons and two daughters, all of them were deadly in their own characteristic way. Cassius Versuolo--the youngest son--was the most promising with his capability to charm the pants off of anyone before easily finishing them off, but at only nineteen years of age, he still had much to learn. His older brother, Nero, was not much older, but far more powerful. Unlike Cassius, he showed mercy to absolutely no one and did not bother to play with his victims before condemning them to the afterlife. To each it was their duty to be an assassin, but it was more of a game to Cassius than it was his brother. Thus being the reason why the youngest son was still in a training mode. For the past few months his parents had kept him busy with minor assignments and he had executed each one with perfection. In fact, he had only just returned to the mansion the night before after killing an entire house of soldiers. News of the soldiers terrorizing the family they had invaded had made it's way to the Versuolo's ears and Cassius's mother had deemed it a noble test for her son.
Stirring from his short sleep as the sunlight invaded his bedroom, Cassius--or Caz as his brother enjoyed calling him-- groaned loudly before sliding his feet onto the stone floor below. Sitting upright on his crimson covered mattress, Caz ran a lightly tanned hand through his mess of white hair. It was customary for the men in the Versuolo family to bleach the color from their hair, but the purpose had been lost somewhere in the previous generations. All Mr. Verusolo knew was that it gave the family a sort of trademark look--and being somewhat vain-- he refused to change anything about the odd tradition. Thus, the snow-haired male rose from his bed and shuffled towards the dresser across his bedroom. Pulling out a light blue tunic his mother had purchased from a foreign merchant, he admired the silver dragon design on the front before pulling it and a pair of black pants over his body. Finishing his outfit with a pair of black leather shoes, Cassius tucked his favorite, retractable blades into the black gloves he wore upon his hands and added a variety of other weapons on his persona. None of them could be seen of course, but it was customary for every assassin to always be prepared.
Leaving his bedroom, the young male bounded down the stone staircase and entered the dining area without making the slightest of sounds. He was greeted by a flying knife and caught it easily between his fingers as he gave his older brother a dry smile. "Good morning to you also."he grumbled under his breath, tossing the knife onto a counter as his older brother's loud laughter filled the room. "Don't be such a grump Caz! I just missed you after your little journey is all. Did you talk to mother yet?" Standing at six feet and three inches with muscle covering every ounce of his body, Nero was a sight to behold indeed. The women in the village chased after him mercilessly and he was all too happy to oblige their lust, but Cassius had never once envied his older brother. He was tall enough ((five feet and eleven inches)) and extremely well built without having to look like a beastly blacksmith. Nero also had a more rugged look to him while Cassius had "softer features" as his mother liked to put it. Rolling his chocolate brown eyes at his brother, the young assassin shook his head as he poured himself a goblet of red wine. "I only just returned home a few hours ago Nero. The only thing I've seen besides my bed is your ugly mug. Where is she anyway?" Nero jerked his head towards the hallway and Cassius somehow knew he was gesturing towards the library. Though she was a deadly woman with a ferocious tongue, Mrs. Versuolo was a woman of knowledge and loved reading and writing more than gutting a person. "She wanted to talk to you about something that had to do with the Corenola's upcoming ball." Cassius stopped in the doorway and looked back over his shoulder towards his smug sibling. Wrinkling his nose at the word ball, he departed in search to find out what on earth his mother had in store for him.

Moving about in her favorite sort of dignified silence, Zophelia's eyes only wandered. The little village was peaceful and silent this morning. Only inkeepers were awake with the young woman at this hour, and even they were only half as alive as she seemed to be. Blue eyes glittering, Zo's eyes wandered the sleepy village. How she loved it. Small and cozy, Zophelia often found herself sitting about the fields that surrounded it and gaze out as the tiny village went about it's business, welcoming travelers with open arms. Zophelia sighed, suddenly wishing herself to the fields were flowers grew, where leaves fell more crisp than at the orchards by her own home. Sighing lightly, the dark haired beauty tugged her hood upwards and made haste so that she could visit the place she loved so.
Zophelia had to admit, the fields were quite lovely in the autumn. A large redwood tree stood at the top of a softly rolling hill and as Zo moved, it's shadow loomed over her. She sat just beneath the tree, tucking her legs beneath herself as she stared outwards. Second oldest in her family, it was Zophelia's job to be marvelous at what she did. She was more of a silent killer. She used poisons and small blades (her favorite being the Blade of Mercy itself) to kill her marks in the night, leaving no trace of her come morning. To most, Zophelia's kind of murder was dull. Much more boring than what her seductive sister Anjelica used to do. But to Zo at least, her mastery of death was beautiful. To watch the light silently slip from someone's eyes, to watch their faces turn all sorts of colors depending on whatever she had slid silently into their system... In her opinion, a silent death was far more dignified than a loud, brash one, made in the throes of faux passion as her sister had done. Zophelia had mastered her craft so well, she could walk the streets of Paris and slit a man's two wrists, the cuts only noticed when the man looked to wonder at the wet feeling of his hands. Zophelia smiled to herself; she quite liked being confident in her ability. Her father was proud of her most of the time, which was good enough for her. After various failed attempts, Zo had given up on trying to please her mother.
Blinking bright blue eyes, Zo's mind slowly began to wander from thought to thought. Her mother was holding a ball. She couldn't help but gag some in her own mouth. Dancing wasn't Zophelia's favorite thing. She wasn't all that good at it. Her elder cousins had often teased her, how she could stomp on every part of her partner's foot, but could never quite do the correct step. Leaning back onto the tree's sturdy trunk, Zophelia pursed her lips. The ball wasn't going to be held at the home at which she currently resided. No, no, it would take it's place at a fairly sized villa a couple roman miles or so away from her sleepy village. Just enough space from the home where most of the Corenola's resided, it was a fair cover. The family would be lifting itself to leave for the villa within the next few days, but Zophelia would probably stay behind. She would have much prefered staying behind. Blowing dark hair from her face in a very unladylike way, Zo folded her arms gently about her chest, legs still tucked gently beneath her. Staying in her sleepy village in her favorite cottage sounded much more entertaining than some ball. Dancing meant a sure fire way to irritate her mother, and easily embarass most of her family. So Zophelia easily would decide against it. But that would mean she had a choice, which a young woman of her raising obviously didn't. This ball meant better relations with other assassin families and the prospect of marriage. Zophelia scowled; Anjelica had been arranged to be married. Some man of high prospect, lots of money who had no clue of what the Corenola family could truly do. Her untimely death meant Zo's cousin Lydia Maria had taken the man. His death was already planned for fall in three more years, set after the second birthday of their child, Karl.
Zo frowned. She didn't really care for the name Karl. She quite liked names of a lovelier nature. Like Zophelia and Anjelica. Names that had no meaning, but sounded beautiful in any case. Names like Porescovella and Dominiquia and Cygnus had always called to Zo. The names were beauty in a name, and she had already decided that if she ever were to have a child, she'd never give it a boring name like Karl. It didn't have a certain charm. Pursing her lips, Zo stretched out her arms, lifting the sleeves of her somewhat heavy cloak. Lifting them too often could be quite the burden, but not if your arms weren't used to it. Pursing thin lips together, the dark haired beauty let her head back to stare up at the yellowing leaves and the slowly coloring sky above her. She could still see the silvery disk of the moon, hanging it's lonely fragile self in the sky...

XXXXXXX Ͼɑssɨʉs ☩ Ѵеɼsʉoȴo ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓
It had been about an hour and a half since Cassius had left his home on the back of his favorite steed. Covered with a light black cloak, he left the hood down so he could savour the cool early autumn wind against his face. Fresh air always helped clear his mind and cool his temper and it was what he needed most right now. He could clearly remember the conversation he had held with his mother and frowned at the news she delivered him. His next and final training assignment was actually from an outside source. The client's name and history was unknown, but he had paid a pretty sum for this job. Cassius was to attend the Calenora's upcoming ball in a few weeks and mingle with all of the guests. His target was a female and would be marked with a wine spill. This would require him to pay careful attention to ALL female attendants during the entire night and when she was finally marked, he would have to somehow lure her away from the public and finish her off.
This type of mission was his speciality and suited him perfectly. With his charming personality and clean kills, his mother figured this last test was a god-given gift to him. In the mansion Cassius hadn't argued with her and silently accepted his mission, but now that he was far from his town, his anger was boiling. "Kill a woman? What sort of threat can a woman possibly present? It's probably just the client's cheating wife that he wants revenge against. This mission sickens me." As he muttered under his breath, Cassius failed to notice that his black horse had veered from the marked path and into an unfamiliar field filled with yellow flowers. By the time the young man finally noticed, his horse had already stopped to nibble on the delectable petals around its hooves. Annoyed, Cassius figured it was best to leave the beast alone rather than go through the effort of pulling it away from its meal.
Sliding off gracefully from his saddle, Cassius walked a few feet away from his horse before noticing something strange laying on the ground not too far from where he stood. Narrowing his eyes against the bright morning sun in an attempt to see more clearly, cautiously approached the figure. Once he was close enough it was easy to see that it was a woman laying on the ground and concern sparked in the man's dark eyes. "Hello?" he called out tentatively, looking around to see if anyone else was nearby that could claim the girl. Seeing none, he shrugged and approached even closer. "Hello?" he repeated more loudly this time. "Are you alright?"

Tugging her hood down from her head, Zo's eyes flickered about the sky. There was some sort of beauty to it, one she couldn't qutie give a name. There were still a few stars stubbornly shining, even though the sky was turning blue and the moon was slowly dulling. Zophelia relaxed, letting her head loll against the tree. Her hair was sure to be full of the scent of redwood and probably have small pieces of bark tangled up in it. Zo laughed lightly; to be perfectly honest, she couldn't have cared less. She crossed her legs, one atop the other before slipping her eyes shut. Her right hand rested in her lap, and the left-handed girl reached out, fingers toying over the yellow flowers in the meadow, atop her little hill. She was grateful she had no missions for the next few days. The luxury of relaxation was one she wasn't able to indulge in often, so she'd take her spare days and treat them like gold. Gently tucked away in her purse, they would be treasured and well cared for until the time came for her to releaswe them. And release them she would with a heavy heart and a sad look upon her heart shaped face.
At least she could have a chance to herself. Zophelia stretched her jaws in a wide yawn. She reached silently around the sleeves of her coat, silently running her finger down the cool blade of a familiar dagger. Zo never really liked playing favorites when it came to her weapons, but the one she carefully fingered was definitely up there. She resisted the urge to draw it out, to marvel in it's simplicity. In the hands of a master, such a thin blade could melt through flesh as if it were butter. Zophelia reached her hands out of her cloak's sleeves and looked at her hands. Though from a while away, they looked smooth, Zophelia's fingers were calloused and rough. They were stained red with the blood of men both innocent and guilty; weapons for the Reaper. Would she spend eternity in Hell for her actions? Or would she be pardoned? Zophelia laughed somewhat bitterly at the thought and shook her head. She was going to Hell whether she wanted to or not. That's just what happened to murderers, to assassins.
Her body tensed when she heard the sound of hooves. A horse obviously enough, but she did not turn to see who rode the steed. Dark hairs flitted about her face with a cool breeze and she turned her head gently, as if watching the leaves move. Her eyes rested on a figure. He was far from her, but she was able to deduce that he was male. Pursing her lips, Zophelia entertained the notion to get up and leave or to simply stay in her place. She decided to stay, plucking up a flower and twirling it's stem between her thumb and index finger. "Hello."she replied softly. He hadn't heard her, so she repeated herself before looking up to him. Curiosity sparked in the young woman's eyes and she only cocked a brow at him."I am quite alright, thank you. What would give you the notion that I was not?" came her reply, falling with ease from her lilps. Zophelia's voice was soft, was gentle, but it also had the edge of a woman who had seen many a death in her day, her own hands causing most of them. Her own curiosity was peaked as she thumbed the flower, eagerly awaiting his response.
