This is the story before Harry Potter was born and maybe forward depending on how far it goes. You can either make your own character or be one from the series (obviously someone who would have been alive during the Marauders time at Hogwarts). This starts at the sorting ceremony on the Marauders first year.
Normal rules of the guild are to be followed.

As the young boy in robes that were a bit too big for him stood at the front of the school, he felt a little fear. He could see his other family members at the Slytherin table, everyone expected him to go where everyone else in the Black family had gone. His cousins all sat there as if there was no doubt their younger cousin would be joining them soon. But as they called their names in alphabetical order. As he heard the headmaster call his name he walked to sit on the school and the large hat was sat on his head. After a few moments that hat called out
"GRIFFINDOR!'
Sirius blinked as he stood up and looked at the headmaster. Could that be right? He hesitantly walked over to join his fellow griffindors sitting down and trying not to look at his cousins, oh he could just imagine the owl he would get in the morning from his mother.

Gasps and hushed whispers could be heard through out the hall at the echoing of the word "Griffindor" bounced off the walls. Could it be? Everyone had been so certain that Sirius Black would have ended up in Slytherin with the rest of his family. The Blacks have always been in Slytherin. What had changed?!
Ignoring the confused whispers surrounding him, Remus continued to flip another page in his book. Always eager to learn, he'd taken this time in stride to delve into one of new text books he'd gotten early, memorizing the specifications to the new charms with a practiced ease. With the sound of the sorting hat echoing in the background he managed to make great progress, that is until someone tugged at his sleeve. Looking up he barely registered his name being called a second time. Once it finally clicked in his mind, his face flushed a light pink hue as he hurried to the front. What happened next seemed to shock him. After moments of the hat's deliberating he heard the words "Griffindor" shouted from its ragged lips. He blinked for a moment... words not forming properly in his mind. Between his and that Black boy's sorts, was the old hat starting to lose it's charm? How was he a Griffindor?!

Sirius watched as the boy he'd seen on the train with his nose in a book was sorted into griffindor as well. This shocked him he thought he'd be in ravenclaw for sure by how studious he was. Maybe there was just too few in griffindor and the hat was trying to even it out? Either way the hat must have lost his mind. He hid his face in his hands and moved down on the bench for the now approaching boy to sit next to him. Remus his name was, Remus Lupin. He might as well get to know him. He would be sharing a dormitory with him after all. And he had a feeling his life was going to turn to hell as soon as his cousins got away from their table. He had always been a bit of an outcast in the family, but now... Oh was he in for it. He was in griffindor his mother was going to be so displeased.
"Oi... You can sit here." He offered to the boy once that hat was done with him.

Hearing someone call out out to him as he walked over, he clutched his fingers around his book tighter before moving to sit down next to the other boy slowly. Wincing slightly as he took his seat he looked towards the other boy and spoke softly. "Thank you" He smiled politely before moving to set his book down onto the table. He moved to open the book once more, returning to chapter 23 of the charms book. Looking down at the book, he felt his concentration starting to drift, his attention longing to look at the rouge looking figure next to him. He let out a soft sigh and moved to turn the page once more.

Sirius sighed and took off the pointy hat that the first years were supposed to wear and sat it on the table. It looks like a dunce cap. He looked at the charms book and seemed alarmed that the other was already on ch 23. "We haven't even started classes yet and your on ch 23?" He whispered before he was hushed by an older girl and another name was called. He sighed and sat his head on his hands. He pulled out his wand slowly and watched as a boy by the name of snape was called to slytherin and was accepted by his cousins. He looked down, jelous of the other boy a bit, but then he just started to hate the boy with oily hair more as he watched him. He could hex him... The boy next to him wasn't the only one who had been reading up on charms.

Remus looked up at the other boy again as he heard him speak once more. "What can I say? I love charms." He smiled looking a little embarrassed before moving to study the others form. The male next to him seemed to be distracted, watching the Slytherin table closely. He tilted his head moved to close his book. "Is it really that bad that you're in Griffindor?" He asked quietly as he stroked the edge of his book slowly, tracing the gold leaf printing written across the the front of the book.

Sirius let out a chuckle that sounded almost like a bark. "Every member of my family has always been in Slytherin... My cousins over there are going to in form my mother and then... Well I don't think she'll be happy... She's not exactly a fan of muggles either. She's very much into blood... But maybe I'll fit in more." He says after thinking a moment. "I'm Sirius..."

Remus sighed, his eyes moving to stare at the Slytherin table as well. "Well you seem like a nice person..." he mumbled softly before offering the other a sympathetic smile. "There has to be some reason why the hat placed you here." He turned more to face the other before offering out his hand. "It's nice to meet you Sirius, my name is Remus." He only met the others gaze briefly before looking away and glancing up to the floating candles near the ceiling. "This place is amazing isn't it? Getting that letter was one of the best days of my life." he chuckled before looking back down to inspect one of the faded scars on his hand. "I can't wait to start classes."

Sirius smiled and looked to the boy now instead of the slytherins. "Where did you live before here?" He asks watching as a few more new grifindoors joined them at the table. He ignores the looks from his cousins. This boy seemed so happy just to be at school, Maybe he should be happy for that too, After all, if the sorting had decided it, maybe it was true. He'd never really fit in at home, maybe this would be his real home for now on. "You are right though... I don't think there is anyplace quite as magical as this place."
The two boys met their other room mates that night, One seemed like they'd become good friends as well a boy named James Potter, but James seemed like he'd be the friend that got you into jail with him and you laughed and said you had fun... Remus, well he was more the one who would come bail you out of jail. The next day they were running late to transfiguration, and Sirius skidded to a stop half way in the class room. Blinking as there was no teacher there. He looked at the clock and then smiled at Remus. "Guess that wrong turn we took wasn't so bad..."
Just then the cat that was sitting on the teachers desk jumped towards them and changed into a Witch. "Well well, two of my own students from griffindor being tardy... Maybe I should change one of you into a pocketwatch so maybe you'd be on time."
Sirius was in aw at that though. "Wicked Professor! Do we get to learn how to do that?"
The professor smiled to the boy. "Animagus is very difficult to become if you weren't born that way like I was, but I will point in the right direction, now please take your seats."

"I used to live in the countryside." Remus traced his fingers over he's scars once more almost absentmindedly as he tried to recall his home life. "There wasn't much going on out there, I used to get sick a lot. This place though... is like heaven..." With his elbows resting atop his book, he rested his head on his hands. "What was it like where you live? You said your mother is into blood is she? Does that make you pure then?" He felt a bit embarrassed asking the boy so many questions but he didn't seem to understand why the boy seemed to be so important. Sure he was handsome and his robes fit him to the point of almost immaculate perfection, but what was soo important about the blacks that a shift in houses could cause such an up rise?
Remus ran to catch up to Sirius, leaning forward and resting his hands on his knees as they reached the door. He was about to respond, but gasped instead at the sight of the cat turning into their professor. Trying not to chuckle at Sirius's excited behavior, he moved to stand up right, bowing his head apologetically to the professor before speaking finally. "We're sorry we're late professor, We didn't mean to disrupt the class." He then quickly grabbed a hold of Sirius's sleeve and tugged at it to have him follow him over to the nearest open seats.

Sirius had listened to Remus speak about his home before nodding his head as the feast began. "Yeah I'm a pure blood. Sirius Black the third, at your acquaintance." The boy did a theatrical bow to the other boy. "My entire family has always been in slytherin Remus... So thats why mother is going to have a cow... You should have seen her when I played with a muggle girl that lived next door..." He shrugged softly. "But maybe theres a reason for what the sorting hat decided." He reached his hand to take Remus hand and shook it. "Someone's got to get your head out of those books once in a while friend."
Sirius had looked like a kid in the candy shop at the teacher as he was pulled to seats with Remus. He payed attention in this class, successfully transforming his water into butter bear (though they were supposed to be transforming it into rum) the teacher had hit her head as he did this and gave him another glass and told him to try again. the 2nd time he obeyed and did it while drinking the first glass.
