The Awakened There exists a reality apart from our own like that of a dream, seemingly so real to those inside until an event occurs that rocks their understanding of the world around them. A few of its inhabitants, having lived out their lives in blissful ignorance, suddenly encounter such an event. These events seem small at first, as if a trick of the eye or mind, yet it festers in the minds of these individuals until they begin to realize that they do not belong, that they are not supposed to be in this world. They soon reached out for explanations yet instead of answers they found one another and in reflecting upon their shared experiences of awakening, found that they could influence their surroundings. However, ultimately their search for answers must continue. The Reality The first reality is much like our own, based on Earth in the twenty-first century.

The Awakening This is the moment in the lives of the Awakened which first alerts them to the flaw in reality, and leads them to discover their powers and eachother. These moments are brief and often thought of at first as a hallucination, a coffee mug that seems to hang in the air for a split second before crashing to the floor, the flow of time reversing for the briefest of moments before continuing on, or something standing where a brief moment ago another object stood in it's place. These moments are different for each Awakening, and always happen when The Awakened are at their most aware of their surroundings. The Powers After each character's Awakening Event they begin to be able to affect the reality of the world around them. These powers manifest into three categories, Time, Gravity and Transmutation. While they only have weak control over these powers, their continous use and imagination will unlock unimagined potential in their quest for freedom. The Keys In each world, the Awakened must find a unique object in order to escape their current reality and move onto the next world. These keys are disguised as highly valuable objects of their reality and are carefully guarded by those what would stop them. However, once all five keys are collected they will have the freedom that they so desire. The Presence There is a force at work that stands in the way of the Awakened reaching their goal of freedom, This force has been named The Presence, a faceless force that manifests itself differently in each reality. The Presence always is always an entity of authority and undeniable force, a dire threat to The Awakened.

The Awakened Username: Si_Valael Character Name: Lucas ‘Luke’ Greendale Nickname: Galactic Wraith Age: 22 Gender: Male Occupation: University Student Biography: Lucas was born and grew up in a sleepy farm town name, simply enough, Corn Valley. The life he divided between the small public school and working on his family's farm was very dull, but all that changed on his first day of the fifth grade. A new kid had moved in to town and as fate would have he shared a class with Lucas. The two hit it off almost instantly, and it was this new friend that introduced Lucas to the world of science fiction. It began with a single movie, and before Lucas knew it he had watched a dozen others. He was hooked, his obsession with the genre spreading to books and comics, games and TV shows. Lucas's parents, while not really understanding his craze, did their best to encourage his hobby so long as he was willing to work for it, an arrangement that Lucas was more than willing to accept. As the years passed Lucas would throw himself at his home work and his duties on the farm in order to get them done in time to indulge in the next chapter of a book or the next movie in a series. His parents often had to remove the book from his hand and turn out the light in his room after he had fallen asleep while reading and they were always careful to place a book mark on the page he was on so that Lucas wouldn't loose his place. He even took up a part time job at the local general store in order to further fund his obsession and to order in books and movies that were on the more rare side. When Lucas finally reached high school Lucas was a well known Sci-fi buff, being well versed in all the technologies, creatures and phenomena that space had to offer. It was here that Lucas found his calling when in science class he the teacher began to teach physics and astronomy. He ate up every bit of new knowledge that the teacher provided, and even though some of it wasn't as interesting as the mind boggling things he had read about, he knew that the world of astro-physics would be where he could finally be content. That night he announced to his parents his plans to leave for university after high school. They had laughed at him, not because of his grand dreams but that they had seen this coming, and had already begun to save up. A few short years later and Lucas left the only home he had ever known for the splender of the city and the Metropolises Institute of Technology and Research. Even though the work was hard and his surroundings unfamiliar, Lucas felt at home among his class mates. He even became involved in other intellectual activities such as chess and fencing. Although he was not quite as smart or skilled as his fellow students, the strong work ethic and determination drove him ever onward. While he was never the best, he was constantly pushing his limits, especially at fencing as it allowed him to fantasize he was in one of his favourite movies, dueling to the bitter end with an implacable foe. Ironically, the events that would bring his fantasies crashing down around him would occur during one of these bouts. In a particularly heated and well matched bout at the university's annual tournament, Lucas's blade met his opponents with such force that both blades snapped at the hilt. The blades were flung up into the air accompanied by an explosion of metal slivers from the shattering point. The adrenaline and excitement that filled Lucas caused his vision to slow just enough to see three slivers hanging in front of his face. These pieces of metal which should have been speeding along in the wake of his now broken blade, instead hung in mid air, spinning violently. Just as fast as it happened the moment was over, his mask colliding with the slivers as his body carried forward, freeing them from their unusual state. For days Lucas could think of nothing else besides the sight of the slivers. Several times he tried to rationalize it away with some reason born of science fiction, yet it still gnawed away at the back of his mind. The more he thought about it the more he recollected moments where he had nearly escaped the jaws of farm machinery or some other such danger by the slightest margin when he thought there wouldn't be enough time to get out of the way. Ever more disturbed, Lucas began to research these phenomena on the internet, a search that eventually lead him to a chat room where the other awakened were also seeking answers. After a time he agreed with the others to meet. Appearance: Lucas considers himself to be rather average looking, with ear length, shaggy brown hair, a slim freckled face with blue eyes and defined cheek bones. His skin has a strong tan from his work on the fields, which along with fencing contributes to his toned physique. He can usually be seen wearing the most functional cloths he can find, which usually consists of a pair of jeans, t-shirt under a long sleeve button up shirt, and either a pair of work boots or hiking shoes. Personality: Lucas is a product of his 'simple' upbringing. He is incredibly honest as well as modest, never afraid to voice his opinions even when he thinks he may sound stupid. He is also insightful, creative and very optimistic. Most important of all, Lucas is incredibly strong willed and determined, often sticking to a task after most have given up. Skills: Basic mechanical maintenance, basic knowledge of fire arms, care for some animals, fencing, knowledge of physics and astronomy, some practice at bartering from working at the general store. Hobbies: Science Fiction, chess.Username: Alyha Character Name: Alyanne (Aly) Cooper Nickname: CopperFire Age: 17 Gender: Female Occupation: University Student Biography: If you were thinking that the life of a child-genius is easy…think again. Alyanne - or Aly as she prefers to be called- is the daughter of University Professor of Astro-Physics Jonathan Cooper and world-renowned Geologist and Valcanologist Rebecca Cooper. When your parents are geniuses, it only seems fitting that you be pushed academically to be a genius as well and Aly was. Early exposure to the technical lingo and concepts of their parent’s fields of interests created two child-geniuses in her little family. Herself and her older brother Mitchum. So for the first 12 years of her life, Aly did as she was told, studying and jumping grades much like her brother until she was freshman at an elite private high school that catered specifically to highly intelligent children. By then her brother was a senior (his being four years older than her) and already holding an associate’s degree in geology.
Aside from their shared genius and photographic memories, Aly and Mitchum had little in common. Her brother was a book-worm through and through. Focusing his passions in chess and facts. Aly on the other hand, shared her mother’s love of the outdoors with her fellow students by means of rock-climbing and back-packing trips in the nearby mountains. The books on her shelves divided between aerial maps of the mountains, astrology, physics, and science fiction novels that allowed her to escape her family’s demands and relax in a world filled with honor and chivalry. Life seemed perfect to Aly – despite her disagreements with father and brother over what a ‘good’ weekend should entail. Until the night her mother and brother didn’t come home from a joint trip to visit Mount Fuji.
Their plane went down over the ocean as they made their way home to celebrate Christmas with Aly and her father. No survivors. Aly was in her senior year of highschool – her second year of college thanks to post-secondary. Once the city thawed out again – and after the funerals – Aly and her father moved into a condo closer to campus. That Christmas had marked a change in Aly though, She stopped hanging out with her friends, focusing her attention first on school work and then beating the records at every climbing wall in the city. Instead of light colors and the occasional dress, Aly started to wear only jeans and black tops. Her brown hair acquired blonde and red highlights and was chopped shoulder length. The fights with her dad grew worse, especially after she announced that she was switching majors the next spring.
It was during one of these arguments that something happened that would haunt and distract Aly in the months to come. Jon had asked her to stop by her classroom after her classes that afternoon, and she had. He’d still been lecturing, something about the effects of gravity from nearby planets affecting the trajectory of an asteroid, so she’d sat in back, waiting for his lecture to finish…she’d even answered his last question when it’d been obvious that his students weren’t going to get it before the class ended…it’d been the first time she’d seen him truly smile in a long while – she’d even smiled back. After the class filed out, Aly followed her father into his office. Their conversation started off well enough, questions about their days asked and answered, decisions about dinner decided…and devolved from there. He’d had to bring up her change of major again. It’d frustrated her so much that he couldn’t see that she had to get away from the fields where the research had proven to kill the people she loved. She wasn’t ready to die. So yeah, she was a bit bored with her current major but who wouldn’t be? It was only chemistry after all. Nothing exciting ever happened in chemistry.
Their talk started to get heated, neither of them really meaning the horrible things they said, but both needing to vent for some reason. And then it happened. Her father accused her of running away from her mother’s memory if she switched major’s now….and then a second later he said it again…exactly the same way. It threw her. She’d only stared at him for a second, completely confused as to why her father – who didn’t even repeat questions on the oral tests he gives his students – would suddenly start repeating himself. Still, the words had hurt. She’d spun on her heels and left his office, ignoring his call to return and talk with him. She spent the rest of the day at the University’s rock-wall. Thinking while she made her way up the most precarious section. She couldn’t find a logical explanation. It wasn’t like she was misremembering things, she had a photographic memory. But there was no reason why her father would have repeated himself…he never did before. It took her another two days of ghosting through classes as she looked over her memories to find an instance when her father repeated himself – she found none but recalled other instances of ‘deja-vu’ - before she started researching. The university and inter-college libraries held nothing, even if she used her father’s teacher credentials to get more results. And then she found a chat room where others were experiencing similar – peculiarities. It took a bit of convincing on the part of some, but eventually everyone agreed to meet. Appearance: Standing 5’2” tall, Aly has shoulder-length, slightly-curly, brown hair that she’s added blonde and red highlights to. She has bright intelligent green eyes that seem to almost spark with fire. Generally found wearing jeans, a black tank-top and a red long sleeved button up shirt, Aly can certainly make an impression on those around her. While only 17, her demeanor makes her seem closer to 20 – even with her youthful appearance. Personality: Quiet and generally soft-spoken, there are only a few subjects with which Aly shows any real temperament with – her family, being told she’s wrong or misremembered something, and her choice of majors. Otherwise, she’s fairly even tempered and tends to think before she speaks. It’s rare for her to initiate a conversation that doesn’t deal with a current project or assignment. She’s not very comfortable in social situations with others her own age and experience has told her that most people that are older than her have a tendency to dislike being showed up by a girl who is so much younger than them. Skills: Excellent working knowledge of the local Astronomical locations and occurances, Photo-graphic memory, rock-climbing, basic geology, intermediate grasp of astro-physics. Hobbies: Science-Fiction books, rock-climbing. Username: IamSTRANGE Character Name: Viola (Vi) McGill Nickname: Sebastian Age: 20 Gender: Female Occupation: Riding Coach Biography: Viola grew up in a middle class family that consisted of her mother, two older sisters and a younger brother. Their mother, Anne, kicked their father, Aaron, out when Viola was only 6. She remembers that fight very well; she often has nightmares about it. Anne and Aaron were fighting over finances like always. Anne had to work 3 jobs to support the family and Aaron’s gambling. She was tired of losing all her money at the tracks so she told him to clean up his act or get out. So he left. Viola had been sitting on the stairs listening to the two of them in the kitchen. She watched with tears in her eyes as her father grabbed his jacket and stalked out of the house. Viola refused to move from the stairs for a week, hoping that her father would return and give her a big hug. But he never did, and her mother finally convinced her to move. After that Vi made her mother take her to the race track every day after school to see if Aaron were there, but he never was. This obsession with the race track soon turned into an obsession with horses, and she began taking lessons at the age of 10, dreaming of becoming a jockey, and maybe finding her dad. Viola never got along with any of her siblings; they all thought she took their dad leaving too hard. But Viola was a daddy’s girl and missed him terribly. At school she was a bit of a loner, but had a small group of good friends who shared her love of horses. The four of them would go on trail rides together when they could afford it. When Viola was 16 she got a job at the nearby barn mucking out stalls. Slowly she worked her way up the ladder to a riding coach, where she has been for just under a year now. When all of her friends left for university Viola stayed behind, still hoping her dad would show up. She started working full time at the barn, and moved out of her mother’s house into a small one bedroom apartment just down the road from the barn. In her desire to become a jockey Viola started a rigorous training regime when she was 14, which consisted of a 6 mile run every morning and night, and various weight work outs every day after school. One day she was working at the barn and had just finished giving a lesson to a group of young girls when she saw him. Her father, standing there dropping of one of the students in her next lesson. She took a step towards him and he changed. He looked nothing like her father, there was no way she could have confused the two of them even if she were stupidly drunk. She blinked half trying to make him change back, half trying to keep from crying. For the next week she was on edge, barely sleeping, and when she did she dreamt about the night he left. She kept hoping she’d see him again, but she didn’t. So she went online searching for psychological issues that would make her see her father. She knew she wasn’t schizophrenic because she would have seen or heard him before then. One day at 4 in the morning she stumbled upon a chat room where other young adults were talking about odd things that had happened in their lives. She joined in and told them of her experience. They all wanted to meet after about a month of talking, but Viola was hesitant to do so, who knows if there were who they said they were. But she finally agreed, needing answers. Appearance: Viola has bright purple eyes, and dark brown hair that falls down to the middle of her back when she isn’t wearing it up. Usually she has it in a braid of some sort. She is only 5’3”, and has a somewhat plump body that belies how strong she actually is. Her ‘style’ can only be described as eclectic, usually wearing cowboy boots, skinny jeans, a studded belt, a black band t-shirt, with a purple hoodie. Personality: Viola is a bit of loner, having issues trusting people, and being very quiet around new people. When she finally warms up to you she is a very funny outgoing person who loves to make people laugh. Skills: Horse back Riding, some minor vet medicinal knowledge, Hobbies: Horse back riding, horse racing,

Viola paced the small living room of her apartment, waiting for her alarm to go off telling her it was time to leave. She didn’t want to show up too early, and be sitting around waiting for the others to show up. One more time across the room and her phone started to vibrate. Pulling it out of her pocket she turned the alarm off and grabbed her jacket. Zipping it up she heading down the stairs and out of the building. Pulling her keys out of her pocket she made her way to the sleek black ducati monster. She placed her helmet on her head, mounted the bike and started it up. Revving the engine once she engaged the clutch and raced out of the parking lot, heading down the street towards the highway.
20 minutes later Vi pulled up in front of a small café that was a hot spot for the nearby University students. She pulled off her helmet and rearranged her braids over her shoulders before heading into the café. ”Hi, how can I help you?” the perky blonde girl said as Vi entered. ”I am meeting some friends here, two other people.” Vi said sweeping her gaze across the room trying to see if she could see the others, then she realized that she doesn’t know what they look like. ”Have they arrived yet?” ”I don’t know.” The blonde said, looking down at the floor plan before her. ”Can you give me a name they might have left?” Vi’s eyes snapped back to the girl, Names.. names… umm… ”Lucas, or um… Aly.” She managed to remember. The hostess looked at the floor plan once more then back at Vi, her permanent smile starting to irritate Viola. ”No one has shown up by either of those names. I can get you a booth now while you wait.” ”Thanks.”
The blonde hostess led Vi to a booth beside the window that looked out on the street. Sitting down Vi placed her helmet on the table while she took off her jacket. She started looking through the menu, wondering what she would get, and how long she would have to wait.

Lucas was furiously reading though the latest chapter he had been assigned by his general relativity professor when his cell phone began to beep. The deeply entrenched mind of the young man ignored the sound at first, thinking it just another call from his friends trying to lure him away from his studies and to another kegger. When the beeping didn't cease after the first five rings, his eyes finally parted from the page before him to look at the now flashing alarm image on his cell.
"Oh jeeze it's time to go already!" He exclaimed, quickly finding his Galactic Defender book mark before slapping it in between the pages and closing the book. Moving quickly he threw on a blue and white plaid long sleeve shirt over the tighter fitting white t-shirt and retrieved his wallet and keys. Once he had double checked the name of the cafe they were meeting at he gave a casual good by to his house mates and took off onto the street.
A quick bus ride later, Lucas found himself outside the artsy little cafe. Taking a deep breath he pushed open the door and approached the small podium style hostess desk. The blonde that stood there gave him a practiced smile at first; though once she gave him a good look her expression soon became more flirtatious.
"Hey there cutie, what can I do for ya?" She said, her tone of voice leaving things much more open than what the words should have been used for. Lucas was not unaccustomed to such treatment from females, and he had never understood the seemingly universal attraction to farm boys, as he was often called. For now, he just smiled back, his blue eyes meeting hers.
"Yeah, I'm just looking for some friends." The term caused him to pause for a moment. "Well, maybe friend isn't the right word. Acquaintances... colleagues maybe?" Realizing he was quickly loosing the girls attention he shook his head for a brief moment. "Anyways, they should be here. They're names are Copper fire and Sebastian. Wait no, sorry. Viola and Alyanne." Lucas laughed self consciously as the hostess gave him an odd look,
"Well, I'm not sure about those other names, but a girl looking for a group, she's sitting at that booth over there." She replied, pointing off towards one of the front windows, her face turning to a certain look of disappointment as she started to draw her own conclusions.
"Thanks." Lucas said quickly, noting the change and beating a hasty retreat. As he approached the table he pushed the stray hair away from his eyes and made sure his long sleeve shirt was sitting properly in its unbuttoned state. He noted motorbike helmet on the table and the leather jacket on the booth's coat rack, causing him to hesitate for a brief moment before walking up to the brown haired girl.
"Hello, I'm Lucas, you would be Alyanne? Or are you Viola?" He said, noting with some interest the purple eyes that now gazed up at him.

Alyanne was more than a bit annoyed. She'd been intending to spend the hour between her class and the meeting she'd set up with two others to ditch her schoolbooks or at least take a a quick climb up the university's rock wall. But instead she'd gotten called to her father's office and interrogated about her lack of enthusiasm for her previous loves - astro-physics and spending time with him. It'd taken her most of her hour just to free herself from his grasp, more thankful than ever that he'd had a class scheduled at the same time as her meeting.
Slipping out of her father's class as his students started to file in, Aly lost herself in the chaos of university students and professors going about their day. Once freed of the hallways of the physics wing, Aly cut accross the university grounds, making a beeline for the cafe. Outside the front door, Aly paused to resettle her book bag, patting dust out of her blue jeans, red tank and black button-up tee shirt.Satisfied with her appearance, Aly slipped into the cafe, ignoring the overly cheerful blonde hostess as she prattled on about, "Aren't you a bit young to be wandering about campus on your own dear? And aren't you supposed to be in school sweet-heart."
Staring at the girl, Aly waited until her voice trailed away in uncertainty before she smiled and asked softly, "Vi and Lucas?"
When the waitress handed her a menu and pointed her towards a booth where the other two waited, Aly murmured a quiet thank-you before making her way over to the other two....just in time to hear Lucas ask if Vi was her. Smiling as she slid into a seat beside Lucas, finally realizing with a start that she recognized him. "I'm Aly, and you are in my father's Astro-physics class."
Looking Vi over as she slipped her bookbag to the floor at her feet, Aly thought the other girl was very pretty. Purple eyes...wow, I've definately never met her...I'd have remembered those eyes.... Turning her green eyes away from the other girl's purple ones, Aly self-consciously tucked a bit of her brown, red, and blonde streaked hair behind her ear and glanced at Lucas, waiting for one of the other two to say something. who's bright idea was this anyway? Aly thought worriedly, ignoring the part of her brain that told her that it had been her idea to meet on-campus.

Viola pulled her eyes away from the menu to glance up at the boy who stood at the head of the table, and opened her mouth to answer while giving him a good once over. But before she could answer another girl approached the table and without hesitating sat across the table from Vi. ”As you can probably tell now…” Viola said hesitantly. ”I am not Alyanne, I am Viola. I prefer Vi though… I am pretty sure I told you that already.” She gave him her quirky half smile and then looked back down at the menu, playing with the tip of one of her braids.
As the other two settled and began looking at their menu’s a silence descended upon the small group. ”So what are you two going to get?” Vi asked, trying to break the silence, feeling awkward. ”I am thinking of having the burger. It sounds delicious. But then again every thing on this menu looks delicious… Sorry… I am rambling…” Blushing slightly she shifted her menu so the others couldn’t see her face.

Lucas turned away from Viola as he heard the second voice appear behind him. Looking over his shoulder at the girl he quickly registered her familiar appearance, though he couldn't place it right away. Once they had both stated their names Lucas held out his hand to each of them. "Right, so it's Vi, and Aly. Nice to finally meet you both in person." It wasn't until he shook the hand of Aly that he was able to give her a good look at which point he could finally put the pieces together. "Wait, you're the daughter of Dr Cooper? So then you must be the prodegy that I've been hearing about. Well ain't that something." Lucas murmured the last part to himself as he took up his menu and sat down, allowing his mind to mull over the facts he had learned so far.
It wasn't until Vi spoke up once more that Lucas looked up from his menu, chuckling slightly over the girls apologies. "Don't worry at all. I come from a town where some people talk for hours about corn. A few words about a menu never hurt anyone. Personally I'm eying the Philly Cheese steak. I've heard they grill everything to perfection."
A few minutes later they had all placed their orders and the waitress had retreated to the kitchen. As Lucas sat back against the leather cushons of the booth sides he turned back to the purple eyed girl that he now sat across from. When he finally spoke again it was in hushed tones. "So, here we finally are... I've been thinking a lot about what I saw and what I've heard from you guys and I swear I'm noticing more. Stuff I catch out of the corner of my eye and I'm not sure if I'm going insane or not. Though to be honest I'm more affraid of what it could mean if I'm not."

You must be the prodegy that I've been hearing about.... The words echoed in Aly's mind as she shifted her gaze away from Lucas towards the window, quietly ordering a chicken wrap and Apple Cider when the waitress showed up. Listening to the older pair talk, Aly couldn't help but agree with them. She'd started to see more of the strange time re-plays since she'd started to research their source. She'd even attempted - once - to talk to her father about it...the conversation hadn't lasted long, a minute tops, before Aly had decided that her father was clueless as to what was going on.
Sighing softly to herself, Aly watched the waitress come back and place food on one of the nearby tables. As she watched the waitress walk away once more, Aly finally spoke once more, "You mean if we aren't just crazy? Trust me...we aren't. But at least on campus, we are the only ones who think something wierd is going on." Focusing her eyes on first Vi and then Lucas, Aly added after a beat, her soprano voice soft and worried, "And we should be worried that we're the only ones noticing things...if nothing else then because it could make us insane to deal with this and have no one else who knows whats going on...or why."
Giving the other two a chance to let her words sink in Aly refocused her attention on the world that she could see outside the cafe, and froze. What the.... she thought in shock as she watched a kid jump his skate board over the curb accross the street, seem to re-wind, and do the same trick again. Shaking her head slowly, Aly added softly, her voice insistent and half-convincing herself of her own words, "We are not insane....but I don't want to end up as a lab-rat either....so if we can't figure out whats going on ...what do we do?"
Aly didn't look at the other two, not wanting to see the same fear she felt reflected in their eyes - if they were afraid at all. Instead she closed her eyes and leaned back against the booth, resting her red, blonde, and brunette stripped hair back against the seat and for the first time since her mother and brother died, prayed that nothing had ever happened.

”We cannot go to the authorities,” Viola said quietly as she watched the other people in the café, making sure no one was listening. ”Whoever that might be. We will certainly end up in a lab somewhere. But how are we supposed to figure out what this means, and what to do, with no one to tell us?”
The trio dropped into silence once more as they thought about this problem, for what seemed like the hundredth time to Viola. The waitress came back and looked as if she were going to say something, but caught the mood of the group and just gave them their food. Vi took a few bites of her burger, the wheels in her head turning rapidly, trying to find a solution. ”The only thing I can think of is to continue searching the way we have.” She said shoving a few fries in her mouth. ”You guys haven’t found anything at the University library have you?”

Lucas kept silent while the others spoke, partially because he wanted to hear what they had to say before he voiced his opinion and partially because he was incredibly hungry once the food arrived. His eyes moved lazily around, gazing at one of the girls when they spoke but mostly focusing on the quickly dwindling food on his plate. Popping the last fry into his mouth Lucas finally spoke. "We don't have to go to the cops or the government, but why don't we try the academic community. I mean some of them are bound to believe we're sane." He said frankly, Adding a bit of a chuckle lighten the mood, he smiled at Viola, though his smile quickly faded as he thought about the research he'd done into the strange goings on. "As for the university, I've looked though all the reference material at the MacFerrin-" Lucas stopped for a second as he realized Viola wasn't from his university, glancing over at her as he added for her benefit. Er, that's the Science Library on campus, and I found a whole bunch of theory on how stuff like this can happen in deep space or during hugely powerful events. But even that is highly theoretical, and not something that could happen on Earth... I even bought an a subscription for an online physics journal site, over five hundred articles later and nothing...Sorry guys. His voice was regretful as he fell silent once more.
The silence was short lived, however, as three men wearing ski masks and raggedy street cloths burst through the front door. They marched quickly into the cafe, one moving towards the hostess the others moving to either side of the front desk and into the restaurant. Turning around to look at the commotion Lucas gave them a quizzical look, saying loud enough for Viola and Aly to hear. "What the hell are these guys doing. They look like-" Lucas's voice was drowned out mid sentence when what seemed to be the lead man grabbing the waitress by the throat and hauling her over the desk and onto the ground. A split second later the three men had produced weapons, two of them hand guns while the man who had grabbed the hostess now wielding a sawed off shot gun. All three of them began shouting at once. "Get your hands up! Hands up!" "Where you keep the cash! Tell me now or I'll blow your brains all over this floor!" "Get your wallets n jewellery on the tables now! Right on the edge-" "Make a move and you're dead old man!"
Lucas sat their rooted in place, not sure how to react as this was his first robbery. His mind quickly wrapped around what was going on when he saw the violence the robbers used against the waitress and one of the patrons who had begun to make a move against one of the pistol wielding men, who received a gun barrel to the side of his head for his troubles. His hands began to ball into fists and his jaw started to clench as one of the two flankers made his way to their table and began to demand their valuables. Lucas's eyes darted between the man at their table and the leader now hauling the hostess towards the back of the cafe. As the man became more insistent, Lucas's eyes returned to him, glaring. "Give me your wallet man!" Lucas met the man's gaze openly, defiantly, replying in a clear and resolute voice. "No." "So you wana be brave you son of a b***h!" The man wound up only slightly before he lashed out with his right hand, swinging the gun barrel towards Lucas's head in a pistol whipping action. Lucas reacted out of reflex, bringing his right forearm up in an approximation of a fencing parry that caught the man just below the wrist.
While the attack had been checked, it left the pistol pointing at Aly over the shoulder. Lucas, now full of adrenaline and his brain in combat mode, saw things as if in slow motion, the man's finger squeezing the trigger in retaliation for Lucas actions. Lucas's eyes grew wider as he realized what was about to happen. No! How could I be so stupid! Lucas pushed his arm up as hard as possible to try and deflect the gun away, but there just wasn't enough time. The gun still pointed at Aly's chest when the trigger was fully squeezed, yet yet the hammer stayed rooted in place, still cocked back and ready to set off the round in the pistol's chamber.
Lucas didn't have time to feel thankful as he pushed himself up from his sitting position. Reaching up with both hands he grabbed the man's weapon hand wrist with his left, and wound up with his right. In a single motion Lucas wrenched the man's wrist and arm into a painful angle while his right threaded past the man's feeble attempt to block and connected just to the right of the man's chin. The combination of the contorted wrist and the heavy blow to man's head caused him to drop the weapon and reel backwards. The weapon itself tumbled through the air before the hammer lurched back into life, firing off a round into the cafe's ceiling before the handgun hit the floor. Not wasting his advantage Lucas lunged forward after the robber, letting loose a loud yell he collided with his opponent, his momentum taking them both off their feet and to the floor in the middle of the room as the eyes of patrons and robbers alike being drawn to him.

Viola continued munching on her fries, leaving her half eaten burger on the plate. Her mind was wheeling, We cannot find any information in books so how are we supposed to find a scholar that can help? She kept her mouth shut while Lucas talked, listening to him. As he finished talking she was going to voice her thoughts but he started talking once more, speculating about people who had entered the café. Twisting in the booth Vi looked over the back of her seat to see the three guys. One glance and she quickly returned to facing Lucas, her mind wheeling with a different set of issues. Her hand gripped the knife beside her plate instantly, though she wasn’t sure what she was going to do with it. Her mind stopped working the instant the robber approached their table and she ran on instincts only.
Vi watched as Lucas took the man down, staring openly when the man pulled the trigger but nothing happened. As Lucas landed on top of the guy Vi got to her feet, brandishing her knife as if it were an actual weapon. The leader halted dragging the hostess to yell something at his other compadre, but Vi couldn’t understand what, her brain wasn’t processing words. The second robber ran towards Vi and Lucas, pistol pointed at them, yelling something. He was on a collision course with Viola, but she didn’t flinch. As he neared he slowed down, and she shifted into a defensive position, her shoulder placed to take him under the diaphragm. He tried to halt before he collided, but his skater shoes slid on tiled floor and he slammed right into her. Without thinking her right hand came up into his stomach, the small knife easily punctured his stomach, which startled her out of her fight or flight mode. Stumbling back from him she watched as he collapsed to the floor, gripping at his stomach. Her eyes dropped to the knife in her hand that had somehow punctured this man. The tip was still rounded, but it was covered in blood. She dropped it to the ground and backed up into Lucas. It wasn’t until she reached him that she realized that she was shaking. ”I… I…”

Aly snorted at the thought of telling any of the faculty of the University. They had no interest in what wasn't in their designated fields unless they could study it for grant money. Her own father was that way, though he wasn't as bad as some of the others. Still, they'd exhausted all of their campus resources if they didn't talk to someone.
Shaking her head, Aly muttered in irritation, "If they've all got access to the same files and papers that Father does, they won't be any help. I used Father's login and password to do my research and came up with zilch."
Slanting a look sideways at Lucas, Aly would have commented on the 'researchers' (nutcases more like) that had written those 'deep-space' theories. But movement caught her attention just outside the front door, and held as she watched the robbers walk in and start shouting orders. She hadn't waited for the robbers to reach their table, removing the thin gold necklace her mother had given her and shoving it in her pocket before she started to empty the rest of her 'valuables' onto the table, the food she'd ordered before growing cold on a plate beside the growing mound of rings, cash and credit cards.
She was second guessing the brilliance of the 'farm boy' when he started to refuse the robber. The teen even contimplated kicking him before the gun ended up pointing at her. Then green eyes flashed with anger and she was moving as soon as Lucas was out of her way. Oh, she didn't think she'd be the best at defending another...and she didn't particularly care for the hostess. But Lucas was still wrestling with one robber, Vi - who'd somehow managed to stab one man in the gut with her knife - seemd to be in shock....and the other Cafe patrons were useless.
She'd snagged her bookbag on her way to the back, giving one man who made half an attempt to stop her a dirty look as she ducked under his arm and pushed open the doors to the back. She didn't have much in her bag - a half-dozen textbooks and some climbing anchors that she'd just bought - but she figured it would be between 30 and 50 pounds. Darting her gaze around as she ducked out of sight behind a prep table, Alyanne spent a moment locating the robber and hostess- the woman sprawled bawling on the ground - and reacted. Moving silently up behind the man, she waited until she was a few feet away before whistling loudly. When the man looked over at her startled, his gun slowly following his head towards her, she swung.
The bag collided with the side of his solidly, stunning him enough to make him drop his gun. Not waiting for him to recover, Aly swung again, dazing him some more and taking a step forwards towards the gun. He stumbled back a few steps, eyes likely a bit unfocused. Swinging again, Aly hit him behind the knees, moving forward as he fell enough to kick the gun away from them. She'd lost track of time - and what the hostess was doing - focusing on the coward infront of her and her attempts to keep him from harming anyone else that day.
It only took one more good hit to the head with her bags for the man to collapse onto the ground and not get up. He probably wasn't dead, but Aly wasn't going to take the chance of checking him. When she backed up enough to be able to see the hostess, Aly watched the woman look between her and the robber for a moment before she started to stammer, "Aare you Nnnuuts!....You could have been...."
Aly rolled her eyes and started to turn away to look for the shotgun. She hadn't moved more than a step when the woman's voice trailed off. Aly turned around sharply, only to watch the woman repeat eveything she'd done only a few moments ago. From looking between Aly and the robber in shock to repeating those same damned words...only difference was, this time the woman finished her sentence. "Aare you Nnnuuts!....You could have been....Killed!"
"Your welcome." Aly muttered, turning away from the woman once more before her own very different fears started to show...it had happened again...the world was still repeating itself. Grabbing the shotgun, Aly headed back towards the front, calling over her shoulder - forcing her voice not to shake - "He's only stunned. I think....you probably don't want to stay back there."
Aly dropped the gun on the front counter on her way back to Vi and Lucas, recollecting her things as she muttered uncomfortably to the pair, "I don't know about you...but I don't feel to interested in talking to cops right now..." It was a subtle hint that perhaps they should leave...something she hoped the other two agreed with and soon. Glancing down at her hands, Aly noticed that they shook, which scared her almost as much as the woman's repeating herself did. What is happening to me?

Lucas was oblivious to the conflit of Aly and Viola as he focused on pummeling the man he had tackled with clenched fists. Avoiding the dazed counter punches of the man, Lucas continued to stike the man's face until his opponent's arms started to go limp and he began to cry out. "Agh! Please! I give, I give!" The man's cries snapped Lucas out of his aggression, slowly lowering the fist he had cocked back and ready to strike as he saw his opponent clearly had no more will to fight.
Fatigue slowly seeping through his muscles, Lucas slumped slightly where he sat, still stradling the man's waist. His breathing was raggid as VIola bumped against him, finally allowing him to take his focus off the robber. Turning to the shaking girl he gripped her gently by the shoulders, turning her around to take here eyes off of the wounded man. "Viola, it's ok, its ok. You did the right thing." Taking a deep breath to steady his own quivering muscles Lucas stood slowly, helping Viola up in turn and supporting her as needed. A few moments later Aly returned from the kitchen, voicing her adversion to a confrontation with the police. Lucas gave her a confused look, replying in a hushed voice.
"That's just silly, it was clearly self defence, and everyone here will clearly back us up. If we run from the cops it'll be even worse, they'll wonder why we're running and treat us as criminals. We stay things will be cleared up before dinner time."
