Bast stood on the steps of what seemed one of many local temple-like structures. Each stood separated from each other by a stretch of land, either the bare desert ground or more often elaborate gardens with fountains and shade spots to cool one from the heated wrath of the sun. A large river flower nearby, and this particular structure had a pool that leeched from it's waters into a cool clear pond surrounded by blooming water plants.

With a heavy sigh he moved back up the steps into the shade of one of the columns supporting the ceiling way ahead. Despite all this beauty and lushness, what seemed like it should be a welcome grateful relief from desert heat and bareness to him seemed just as barren. He was alone here, the grounds maintained somehow someway that he did not know. Others did that, not him. No one ever called to him for anything, or even came before his cat-pupiled eyes. He saw no one, and so this lush space was as barren as the desert.

He laid down in that pocket of shade, a column to one side and a tall palm potted plant on his other and closed his eyes.
it was so hard, being alone...

((Think templed egypt in the times of the Pharaohs with all the lushness , and mysterious servants that provide for you but never ever show themselves. Food mysteriously appears and man made objects exist.)

Larissa collapsed on the ground. She had been walking for days through the harsh desert and was literally dying of thirst. She was too weak to move. She blinked sleepily, weak...she was afraid to close them. She fought the feeling, afraid she wouldn't wake up should she fall asleep.

She sat herself up and she thought she saw trees and a pool nearby. "No, it can't be, I'm dreaming this up", she thought to herself. It had to be a mirage. But, with it being her last hope she decided to force herself to drag herself towards it. Once she got closer, it didn't disappear as expected though.
She felt the coolness of the water circulating through the air and it seemed to bring with it a new feeling of hope. She managed a jog and went straight for the pool, and walked right into the pool. Luckily the edges were shallow at least, for she was still too weak to keep herself afloat long enough to swim. She lowered her head to drink from the water, and then walked out and decided that she would be able to get away with taking a rest. She nestled herself at the base of a tree in its shade, closed her eyes, and let sleep come to her.

Bast startled at the sounds of splashing coming from the pool. In a place quiet like this an sound startled him. He stood, eyes staring and ears pointing in the direction of the noise. Once it had died down he cautionsly padded silently down the steps towards the pond to see.

What he didn't expect was to see another wolf in this place. Then again he never expected to see anything. She looked almost dead, her coat dusty like she had been traveling the desert, and maybe a bit too skinny. She looked like she had come far. He noticed her paws wet from walking in the pond.

He wanted to help her, but he didn't want to wake her up. Still, she looked like she may be hungry when she woke. He didn't really want to leave her alone, so he turned and ran quickly on silent paws back into the temple, picking up some food in that room that always held some food set out just waiting to be eaten and took it back, setting it on the ground and nudging it closer so it would be the first thing she saw.

Carefully he took a few steps back and sat in the shade of a tree, watching her. After all, she looked weak, it wouldn't be good if something came upon her and attacked while she was asleep...

"Mmmm", she mumbled in her sleep. She could smell food. Her stomach began to ache worse than it already was at the smell of the food. Was it just in her dream though? Her stomach ached so badly that it forced her to wake up. She yawned sleepily and got up and stretched. She wasn't sure how long she had been asleep there, but it was the best rest she had gotten in weeks.

She looked around and saw a pile of food that had appeared during her slumber. Not sure how it got there, or whether or not to trust it, she fought with herself for a couple of moments...what if it was poisoned? Or a trick? But then her stomach gave her the answer...it growled at her and demanded she eat the food that lay before her.

Larissa laid back down, and cautiously began eating the food. It was delicious! Oh how sweet the taste of the fruit's juices. And the meat...she practically inhaled it without chewing it first. She had never before experienced such food. After the pile disappeared, she burped quietly, and started licking herself to clean her paws.

bast was sure she hadn't seen him yet. Cautiously he cleared his throat, not wanting to startle her.
"Ah..." His voice seemed unsused, and it was. What would he have been doing? Talking to himself? He wasn't crazy.
"Are you ok?" He asked compassionately, still staying back careful to hold himself in a non threatening pose. Well, as non-threatening as a wolf his size could be anyways, which was why he hoped giving her her space would help.

Larissa looked up from licking her paws, completely caught off guard by the sight of another wolf. He was big and black with beautiful markings on him. His eyes....she couldn't help but stare into them. She shook her head to snap herself out of her slight trance.

"Oh!", she blushed, embarrassed at herself for staring. "I'm...I'm ok now, thank you. I've been abandoned by my pack, and was left out in the middle of the desert alone...been wandering for days, or weeks...not sure....", she had a saddened look on her face, and she held back the tears from coming. She was alone now. Everyone she had known was gone.

Bast titled his head to the side quizzically.
"What's a pack?" He asked. He had no clue honestly. He moved forward unconsciously as she seemed near crying, but caught himself. He just wanted to curl around her and comfort her, but he didn't want to overstep any bounds either.

"Please... Don't cry. You're here now, there's food and shade and water here...
Just please...."
If she cried he didn't know what to do, the thought pulled at his heartstrings.
"Would you like to bathe in the pool? You'll feel better..."
He motioned towards the water's edge invitingly.
"Or you could come up the steps and rest in the shade, it's really cool in the back of the temple, where there's stone all around and piled of pillows to curl up on...."
He was grasping at straws, not really sure what to say to her.

"My pack...they were my family. My parents and siblings. They....left me", it was harder to fight tears now. She wasn't sure if she was saddened by them leaving her behind, or angry at them.

The black wolf moved closer. Her heart jumped. It wasn't really out of fear though. She could sense that this wolf meant her no harm.

"Swimming might be nice," she said. She loved swimming, and now that she was rested, she thought it sounded quite nice. She slowly stood up and started heading towards the water. "What...what would you like me to call you?", she asked shyly.

"I... I'm so sorry." Bast said, knowing the feeling of bieng abandoned. He usually felt like the world abandoned him all alone here.
He wanted a swim too honestly, the heat was picking up and the shade couldn't quite cool him completely at midday. It was like his fur absorbed the sun and it's heat. A swim would be a welcome relief.

"My name is Bast." He said with a warm smile at her, and followed after he on the way to the pool. He admired the way she moved, and wondered at the color of her coat under the dust of the desert. It had to be nice, she had such a sweet voice after all.
He shook his head, clearing thos thought from his head. He shouldn't be looking at her like that now, she needed help now, and they had just met..
"What is your name, pretty one?" He asked, trying to distract himself.

"My name is Larissa", she told him. She then blushed for she realized he had called her pretty. She quickly turned her head so hopefully he wouldn't notice the deep shade of pink her cheeks had turned.

As she walked towards the pool, she felt like her every move was being watched. She stood a little straighter, and swished her tail back and forth softly behind her. Oh no, how dirty I must be!, she thought suddenly aware of what her appearance must be. She had never really been exposed to other males, and she didn't want to make a bad impression on this one. He was quite magnificent, she could feel the warmth radiating off of his black fur.

Figuring he was at hot as him, well...probably a lot hotter, she ran ahead and jumped in the pool, suddenly full of energy.

He was happy and let out a laugh, following her and taking a flying leap from where he was into the pond. He was glad she seemed happier now, and her sudden energy gave him energy.
He surfaced, only his eyes and nose above the water to see where she had gone. He paddled at the water, staying afloat and spun in a slow circle, searching for her among the water plants and flowers. He was curious to see her face clear of the dust. He bet she was beautiful.

The cool water rushed over her face and through her fur. It was quite invigorating. She lingered under the water a moment and used her paws to try to clean off her face, before popping back into view, so that her fur didn't turn into a muddy mess.

She surfaced again, and ran her nails through her fur on her body as well, trying to get herself clean. Once she was satisfied she was clean enough, she then rolled herself over and started floating on her back, wagging her tail gently back and forth behind her in the water.

She looked over at Bast, and kicked some water over his way, giggling mischievously.

Bast snorted as some water went up his nose and laughed.
"Oh you want some of that do you?" He asked.
With a laugh he dove under the water and hid himself among the reeds at the bottom, watchign her above waiting for a moment.
Suddenly he zoomed up to leap out of the water next to her with a laugh, half landing on her to push her under a little.

Larissa struggled as Bast came down on top of her, pulling her under a bit. She grabbed onto him, trying to pull herself up. Once she got herself back afloat, she playfully shoved him. Trying to think of a way to get even, she turned her back to him, gulped a mouthful of water, and spit it out all over on him.

She giggled, and swam away from him, making her way back to the shore as quickly as she could.

Bast smiled happily. He kinda enjoyed it when she grabbed onto him to pull herself up. He followed her silently paddling through the water to the edge of the pool, nose and eyes just above the surface and ears perked up in her direction oddly seeming like a shark. Sensing their swim had come to an end he sighed softly. She would leave now, he knew it. he didn't want her to leave, it had been so nice just the few minutes together.

Still sighing he climbed out of the water, determinedly not looking in her direction as his head hung low and his shoulders kinda slumped.

"I suppose you must be moving on then?" He asked. That was the way of a wanderer, and she seemed like a wanderer, if she had been abandoned and walking in the desert.
