It was a hot September day, but the faint wind reminded Danelle that summer was coming to an end. What she and her classmates on the boat did not remember what that it was hurricane season. Had any of them listened to the radio, they would have heard that a hurricane warning had been issued in their area for the next 5 hours.
If any of them had brought a radio with them, they would have heard that hurricane Jasper was headed right towards them. However, none of them wanted to bring a radio with them and risk having it fall into the water. All they had was a standard radio that was currently not in use.
The waves crashed against the boat and the four girls on board strapped their life jackets on tightly. Their summer clothing offered little protection against the elements. April, who was steering the boat realized the storm was still getting worse and decided to go back. She turned on the radio to find out the best route to get back to shore. As the started to turn the other three girls tried to protect themselves as best they could against the wind and rain.
Danelle was near the back of the boat which was where the largest wave did its damage. As soon as the wave hit, Danelle lost her balance, fell off the boat, and into the ocean below. Even with her lifejacket, she was pulled under by the current and came back up out of sight. The others screamed for her but it was hard to hear over everything else that was going on.
"I AM OVER HERE!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.
The boat headed in the other direction. It was clear they had not heard her. She wondered how long her life jacket would last as she faded into unconsciousness.

Nick, was in a small boat alone. He had gone out during the storm unpurpose since he wanted to know how the storm felt. He realized it was getting too dangerous now so he decided to head back, and so he did. It was a rough travel, but finally he was coming near the shore. He then spotted a girl that seemed oddly familiar. At first he thought that the girl was crazy for swimming in such dangerous wheather conditions, but he soon realized she was actualy struggling for he life. He quickly turned the boat her way. He quickly pulled her into her boat. He didn't know if the girl was going to be conscious or unconscious now.

Danielle looked at him grogily. Her eyes fluttered open and shut as she tried to regain her senses. She brought her hands up to her eyes and rubbed them. Then she started to move her legs. She started to sit up but the dizziness she felt made her realize she need to remain still for awhile longer.
"Where am I?" she said after some time had passed.

Nick sighed in relief.
"Ufff, I'm glad you're okay. You're on my boat. You were drowning and so I saved you." he said as they were seconds away from the boat now. The storm seemed to be calming down, but it could get violent any moment again.
"Are you okay?" he asked looking at her. She did seem fine, but he still had to ask.

"Thank you for rescuing me!" said Danielle. "I should be alright."
Although still numb, she did her best to climb into the boat. It was clear she would not be able to do it on her own. Once safely on the boat, she took some deep breaths and tried to relax.
"We should radio my friends and tell them I'm here," she declared. "They are probably still looking for me."

"You mean the guys in a boat that passed by a few minutes ago? They were headed to the shore, and are probably there already." he said as he looked at the shore. They finally arrived at the pier. He got off the boat and offered her a hand to help her out.
"We'll radio them later. Right now we need to get you something dry or else you'll catch a cold." he said as he looked around in hope to find her friends still around.

Danielle looked at the shorts and old tennis shoes she was wearing. He was right. They didn't offer much protection from the gold. With things settling down, she realized she hadn't even told him her name or asked for his. She also didn't remember whether or not she had thanked him for rescuing her. Even she if she had, he certainly deserved it again.
"Thank you for rescuing me. My name is Danelle," she said as he helped her off the boat.
She looked around to see if there was a towel or some dry clothes available.

Nick smiled. He get a dry towel from his backpack and handed her to her.
"Nice to meet you Danielle. I'm Nick." he said looking at her. She seems familiar....have I met her before? he thought. He shrugged it off.
"Want me to lend you some dry clothes until we find you something else to wear?"

"Yes, that would be helpful," she said with a nod.
As if understanding why Nick was looking at her, she returned the look and wondered if she had seen him somewhere before. She shrugged it off. She had seen many people before and if they lived in the same area they may have passed each other once or twice. Thanks to the storm the temperature and dropped considerably and it was unlikely to get any warmer. The sun was going down which would make the temperature drop even more. She did her best to wring the bottom of shirt and waited to see what dry clothes he might have to offer her.

Nick took out of his backpack some jeans and a blue t-shirt. He showed them to her.
"Does this work for you?" he said looking at her. I know. I think we go to the same school. I think...It all depends on the age.
"Say, may I know your age?"

"I am 16," Danielle replied.
She found a private place to change into the dry clothes and changed as quickly as she could. The jeans were a little too big for her, but they would do until she could get home. She neatly folded her shirt and shorts and kept them with her. Her socks and tennis shoes remained on her feet. They were wet too but she still needed them until she got to a safe place.
For the first time, she finally had a chance to take in all the things that had happened to her so quickly.

While Danielle changed, Nick walked into a store he had just found. They didn't sell clothes, but they did sell shoes and beach stuff like beach balls, towels, buckets, etc. He bought a pair of sandals that looked Danielle's size. He then came outside and waited for Danielle to come outside. After she was done changing he would help her find her friends and then he would leave back home.
