(Okay, here it is! ;D)
The English grammar can be quite difficult. This is why I am making this topic, to have less errors in grammar. (Okay, first of all, I'm sorry for making a topic without permission. sweatdrop )
Capitalization
We've all learned this in kindergarten, right? And it's extremely simple! All you have to do is capitalize the beginning of a sentence, place, name, and some more things. So, when saying a name; Ruthie. Incorrect: ruthie. See how easy this is? Not only will you seem more decent with capitalizing, but you will make people more happy to role play with you. Just take your time, and you'll be more happy on how your text looks like.
The ** and -- has to go.
I know someone who does this ALL the time. I'm clearly saying no more *Walks to beach* or -Walks to beach-. Think of it like this, would you find your own text in a book? Type like you're writing a small moment inside a book. Make it realistic. Here's a good example: May Belle takes a stroll to a beach.
Periods and punctuation marks
Simple as capitalization. No 'David stops then he tries to fly again'. Here is the proper way; 'David stops, then he tries to fly again.'. I know the punctuation marks can be tricky on where to select the right spot. A quick definition of mines is when you're taking a breath from reading, giving a list of multiple things, and much more. Take a look at the proper way of David's action, and you'll figure it out. As for period marking, you know the basics.
Text language? Really?
Sure, some people say 'It's the internet!'. But when it comes to role plays, it's a whole different thing. I will state again, would you find this kind of language in a book? Examples: 'Alex jumps in the water. "lol it iz 2 cold 4 me! xD"'. The time that you can do that is when you're talking outside of the roleplay, like (Gtg guys, I have 2 go 2 bed. Bye.)
Quotation
If you don't know the proper way of this element, your text might be confusing at times. If you don't quote what your character is saying at all, we won't know if your character is thinking or talking. And no, this is not right; "Maddie walked in the room." Wow, this place is very bright! "She continues looking around.". Lol, you're quoting her actions, not speech. And if you'd like to be fancy, you may make your quotes bold such as this; 'Maddie walked in the room. "Wow, this place is very bright!" She continues looking around.'.
The differences between 'there' and 'their'
This is a common error. You know those kind of words, like 'threw' and 'through', and 'your' and 'you're'. In this section, I'll tell you the difference.
There= At a place, such as 'Oh, are you looking for her? She's over there.'. Their= A property, like 'Their bright, glowing flowers amazed him.' There are other ways of using the word 'their', bit it's a bit complicated for me.
Your= Something you own, like 'Wow, Tomo! Your guild is so awesome!' You're= another way of saying 'You are'. Now this marking is an apostrophe. It's really when you're taking a letter out and replacing it with the mark, such as the words we're, 'cause, ma'am, ect. Now that you know the meaning of it, I don't have to give you an example! xD
Through= To go past something, like through a door. Threw= Past tense of 'throw'.
Other things
We're not all American. Some of us, let's say, is English. Please do not say they spelled color/favorite/mom wrong because they spelled colour/favourite/mum. In fact, the U.S. is the only country with English as their national language, and they consider color, favorite, and all the other words like that as it is. All the other English speaking countries, such as England, Australia, New Zealand call 'mom' 'mum', ect. And always review your text. You might see some errors when submit your post right away, it's just like taking a math test. Just take our time.
Seeing an improvement?
I'll finish off this section with something you might wanna see.
Before:
*Runs to pool* omg its soooo cold lol *jumps out* im never going 2 dat pool agan cuz it iz frezing!!!!!!!111
After:
Laura runs towards the pool. As she jumps in, she says, "Oh my gosh, it's so cold!" She laughs, then jumps out. "I'm never going to that pool ever again!"
I dearly hoped you have better grammar after reading this. So far, I'm not seeing anyone is this guild that has horrible grammar, but this is for future members. I'm sure no one would want this academy to be filled with 'omg dis pool is soooo cold lol!!!!!!!!!!!!111'. Anyway, thank you for reading! Bye!
