A post can affect a lot within a roleplay, from what goes on or even the atmosphere of it. The main goal of a post is to engage the reader's attention, and keep it. Every time you post a reply, there are probably more people who read it than you think, unless it looks boring, plain, drab, or even overly decorated. At times, one may post a reply in a roleplay, and yet other's neglect it or don't even realize it was there. You want to attract attention of the other roleplayers, or even people who simply wish to read, by making it unique, personal, and pleasurable to take notice.

At times, the length and the literacy of a post can affect a lot about the post on whether it looks neat or boring, or even readable. Though length and literacy does not mean the quality of the content is bad, it just may affect the rest of what you use in your post, such as images and quotations, and also whether it looks neat or messy. Taking your time on a post is a lot better than slapping on a block of text that someone can't even read.

If your posts are small in length, try to use less than necessary decor for your post, as you don't want to distract attention from the text content, but you don't want it to look bare. Believe me, sometimes it is difficult to read a post if they have one sentence in the middle of a huge mess of images, icons, brightly coloured quotations and lyrics, and other sorts. You don't want the person you are roleplaying with have to work to read what you wrote, especially if it's just one sentence.

If your posts are long in length, try to keep it simple, because a couple of paragraphs can be a little bit of a read, and NEVER use bright colours for the font on your text content. It hurts the reader's eyes. Try using a shade of grey, black is variable, just something that is easy on the eyes. Use bright colours on the lyrics or quotations, if you want, to make them pop and attract attention.

COLOUR IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS OF A ROLEPLAY POST.

Ahem. What I mean is, Colour is probably one of the things that either flaunts it or ruins it, and this goes for profiles as well.

Firstly, before you can do anything, you must become familiar with
Hex Code!

Oh, Hex Code. How I loveth thee. The technical term for it is Hexadecimal Code, but it's much more simple to say HEX, right? Right. Hex code is the code used for colours in HTML coding (for websites, profiles, etc.). However, that's not what Gaia uses for it's coding. Gaia uses BB Code, which is similar, but not quite, but that's a whole different story. Let's just say that Hex code works the same for both of them.

The Hex Code is a six symbol code, and is made up of letters and numbers. EVERY colour has one.

It is easily attainable, and not that difficult to use.

You know how whenever you colour a sentence or word using gaia's tools? You get this.

[color=
blue]Something cool is written here, but I just don't know what.[/color]

And it turns out like this on the actual post.

Something cool is written here, but I just don't know what.

With Hex Code, you use the same exact format, only instead of where "blue" is, you put the Hex Code, including the # symbol. (Side Note: REMEMBER THE #. Because, if you don't, it will not work, and you'll be very, very sad.) In this case, I'll be using a turquoise-ish colour with the hex code of #18c0d8.

So, it'll look like this.

[color=
#18c0d8]Something cool is written here, but I just don't know what.[/color]

And it turns out like this!

Something cool is written here, but I just don't know what.

See how easy that was?

I will be continuing this shortly...

tools that may be useful;

photoshopxxxOnly if you have this. The colour picker is exceptional, and this goes for any other artistic program with a colour picker. Anything with a colour picker and gives you the HEX code will be great.[/color
COLOURloversxxxThis website is great for quick and easy palettes that, surprisingly, look nice, as well as a variety of inspiring colours with quirky names.
tektek text generatorxxxSimple to use, and helps with gradient text. (IT MAKES IT SO EASYYYYY.)

quick tips;

oo1xxxNEVER use colours that cannot be seen easily on a white background. (ie. white, too light grays, yellows, pale colours, etc.)
oo2xxxTry to use colours that match the personality of the character in some way, shape, or form. OR, use a colour that is seen in the image you use to represent your character.
oo3xxxUse a different colour than the people you roleplay with. That way, it'll be a little more distinguishable, and your posts won't look the same and difficult to follow.
oo4xxxChoose your colours wisely and with thought. Some colours just don't go together.
oo5xxxBUT, don't be afraid to use crazy colours! Sometimes, it's good to use strange colour palettes. It adds more flavor.
oo6xxxBalance is key.

LOOK AT ALL THE PRETTY COLOURS YOU CAN USE!
Since Gaia's generic colours suck, here's a long list of colours you can use by name easily and efficiantly. And easy to remember!
Colors with * are colours I advise to avoid. They're pretty, but difficult to read.
