Squad 3 is well-known for keeping the gates of the Seireitei safe and protected. There are five main gates in the Seireitei, four of the main gates are guarded by four giants known as the gate guardians and their power is equal to a Lieutenants power but they do not know kido at all. Danzomaru is the gate guardian of the Black Ridge Gate (Northern Gate), Hikonyuto is the gate guardian of the Red Hollow Gate (Southern Gate), Jidanbo Ikkanzaka is the gate guardian of the West Gate, and Kaiwan is the gate guardian of the Blue Stream Gate (Eastern Gate). The fifth gate is called the Senkaimon, the Senkaimon is run by the Kido Corps but guarded by Squad 3 in a group of two.
The duty of this Squad is to support the four at each gate so if they need help they can hold the enemy off until back-up come as well as to make sure if anyone is trying to go through the Senkaimon gate so they can go into the World of the Living, the gate must be fully operational so that once they walk through their that their Squads flower mark appear on their body somewhere as well as having a good enough reason to got to the World of the Living and having at least two JigokuchÅ (Hell Butterfly) so that the JigokuchÅ can guide thruogh without getting lost in between the dimensions.

The symbol is there to make sure to keep any of the Squad 3 members that goes to the World of the Living energy level in check so that they do not attract hollows to the area but for that while the mark is sealed on their body the members shinigami powers is cut to half. No matter what happens no member can not release the seal until the Head Captain gives the order but if someone does release it without the Head Captain call that would be consider treason and death with come to that person.
