Here the clock tower lies, looming over this city. No one knows who made it or why it's there, but why don't you take a peak inside? Couldn't hurt, right?

Franz ducked behind a column until the pairs of heavy footsteps faded. Not willing to take any chances, he immediately crossed the bridge in a hunter's run so as not to be seen easily. Once across, a tall shadow that fell over him caught his eye.

Looking up, he gazed upon a strange, somewhat out of place clock tower. How odd...what is a thing like this doing in this city?

There was a sudden shout in the distance. Random city dwellers scurried here and there, past Franz and off down side streets or back across the bridge he had just passed. From their general directions, he ascertained that the men were coming back around for a second look.

Unwilling to start something in the middle of the city, Franz made a break for the clock tower. The old slightly rusted metal door creaked, but allowed him an easy entrance. He slipped inside before pulling out a light to see with.

Throwing a few daggers at the man, the girl landed behind him, a sword in hand for defense. "W-who are you?!" she demanded, her hands trembling at the sight of a stranger. She thought no one would come here, but aparently, she thought wrong. A few people even laughed at her worries this morning, saying there weren't any people who'd even think about wandering in here. None the less, she put on a brave face at the man. "State your business!" she yelled. Her dangerous stare shifted from corner to corner, seeing if he was alone or not. Lucky for her, he was, so she felt better about this whole situation.

Franz made a sliding step forward before pivoting around. Instead of his lighter he pulled out...

A free hand.

"Hey there...relax, will you? You don't want to keep yelling like that unless you want more than one person to handle." He said coolly. He shrugged, making a motion to the door behind the woman. "By that, I mean your noise will attract a group of unwanted persons, and I'm not entirely inclined to remain here if they show up."

Franz tipped his face down to better shade the glint in his eyes with his cap. He could see that this wasn't normal for the lady. He also guessed that despite her loud bravado, she was probably a little nervous. I don't want to aggravate a useless fight if I don't have to... He thought as he kept his observations to himself. Hopefully she won't yell even if she does keep asking what I'm doing here...which I'd rather not share.

A bead of sweat ran down the woman's face, lowering her sword. "What is a military man doing in a place like this?" she asked, her voice lowered considerably. Better head this mans advice... she thought, circling around the man. He had no reason to lie, so why not trust him? It was odd to her that a man like him wouldn't carry a gun or a sword. She decided to leave it alone in hopes that it wouldn't hurt her later, but the thought still lingered. "Who's following you...?" she asked after a short passage of time. The air was tense around her as she kept her stare on the man, not allowing herself to lower her guard. She didn't feel any movement from the outside, which ment that the people outside had moved off somewhere else. She leaned down, feeling the ground to check.

He dusted off his shoulder and straightened his shirt. A military man... He mused to himself, not hiding the smirk. I really should have stopped by a tailor and gotten some new...duds, I suppose. Franz watched her curiously as she circled around him; this was a most amusing situation to him. He didn't make any movement at all except for occasionally turning his head to follow her.

"Former subordinates...sent by my former boss." Franz said with a shrug as he responded to her. No longer sensing the people that he had tracked (who were essentially tracking him), he relaxed. He had his hands in his pockets as he bent slightly from the torso and watched the woman check the ground. She'd effectively let her guard down for how he knew how to fight, but attacking her wasn't what he'd come there for. If I play my cards right, there won't be any need to fight...and maybe I can socialize normally with someone in this city for once - although...this isn't a very normal place to be doing that sort of thing.

"Do you mean to tell me that..." Franz paused as he turned around to check out his surroundings. "You guard this place? I can't guess what could possibly be so important to guard here...but..."

Franz bit his lip as he turned back to face the stranger. Should I even risk saying something like - half of his mind had begun to think.

"Don't you think putting a good lock on the door would have been a good first obstacle for any unwanted intruders?" The other half of his mind finished before he had a chance to reconsider. Seeing that he'd already said it, he pulled his hands out of his pockets and waited unnervingly calmly for her to throttle him.

A nerve popped as she heard him speak. She jumped up and stomped closer to him, agravated now. "That would be that sensible thing to do now, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, this tower doesn't work that way! Too many nooks and cranny's to lock, not mentioning the hidden passageways." She sighed as she sheathed her sword. "This clock tower...Holds special information. If everyone had access, it wouldn't do much good.." she said, biting her thumb. A small drop of blood ran from it. "None the less...I don't trust you." she said, wiping the blood on her forehead. She leaped up onto a wooden beam. "You'd be wise to leave here while you can." she said, watching the man intently.

Franz grinned to himself before speaking. What a cad I am...always saying the right yet wrong thing. He thought before looking up at her. Hopefully this won't just aggravate her more... He supposed that he was lucky enough that she hadn't already tried to hit him.

"Now, I didn't say that that would stop ALL intruders." Franz smiled softly. "It would just stop random hooligans like me from stumbling in here and possibly distracting you from more malicious intruders attempting to come in through other entry ways."

He paused as he let his mind suddenly wander to the curious act of wiping the blood on her forehead. Strange. A modern city with an ancient looking clock tower guarded by a beautiful yet oh so guarded young woman... Franz cleared his throat and came back to the present. Not good to let my mind wander like that. Just gets me into all sorts of trouble.

"I've quite a bit of experience in all sorts of things - putting up defenses being one of them - but seeing as you don't trust me and seeing that I didn't really come here to do much except sit out a chase..."

His voice wandered off as he leaned next to the main door. He held up a hand for silence - it was a force of habit - as he glanced at the entrance and strained his ears for any sounds. Damn...well of course they'd come around again. A man can't just vanish if they're covering the whole place. Unfortunately, this lady wants me out. What's better? See if she'll try to kill me for sticking around, or leave and possibly attract a fight - which may or may not get us all trying to hold a "discrete" fight in a supposedly abandoned clock tower?

She smirked as she watched the movement of the man. "You are no hooligan, sir. I believe you know that as well." She sighed for a moment, feeling the vibrations return. "I also don't think you're random." she said suspiciously. "It seems to me that you have experience in battle." she said, shirting her position from beam to beam. He doesn't seem like he wants any trouble....But I can't just let him be....What should I do? she thought as her glance kept shifting, seeing if anyone else had wandered in. Staying on one subject too long was a bad idea, but she felt if she didn't, it'd be the end of her. "Who DID you work for? Who'd go so far as to follow you after a job has ended?" she asked. That grin a moment ago sent a few chills down her spine, leaving her to heighten her defense. Just don't let your guard...Do that, and you'll be fine...

He straightened up his stance but paused before reaching into his shirt pocket. No...she'd suspect me in an instant and then if that's enough noise to attract them I can't help her since I'd either be dead or too injured. Franz wasn't sure if talking about such a subject just then was a good idea, so he decided to see how close the sounds were to the tower. It seemed that they were edging around the place, but it didn't seem like the people suspected the old clock tower. Which is strategically stupid...He thought to himself. Why overlook anything, if they're that bent on finding me?

Sighing, he edged cautiously closer to the woman so as not to speak too loudly. He was careful though, to keep enough distance so she wouldn't feel the need to lash out at him.

"I suppose I need to explain myself a bit, for it seems I've certainly created quite an abnormal day for you." He said, genuinely humble. Franz took off his cap to smooth his dirty blonde hair before putting the cap back on. "My name is Franz...Reinhardt. I WAS a private military man. I left once things turned awry in the organization, and I don't intend on going back, even if my father claims that his dear love of me and my safety are his only concern. If you knew him, you'd come to understand that, at the very least, whatever he says is never true. Then again...I'd rather you never come to know him..."

Yes, that's best for her. Franz thought, his eyes dimming a little at the thought. His situation always left him ostracized by any he came to meet. I should just help her here - stop those men from entering or take them out if they do - but I shouldn't get her involved with them...least of all my father. Hell...I shouldn't have gotten involved, but being his son makes things a little difficult, doesn't it?

Franz wondered briefly - possibly as a distraction from his previous train of thought - about the clock tower itself. He wasn't interested so much in what it kept hidden...but he felt quite pulled to it regardless. There was something about its secrecy that he felt familiar with. Comfy, even...if that makes any sense. Coming back to his senses, he looked at the woman to see what she had to say.

The woman broke off into a small smile, dissapearing a second later. She reappeared behind the man and frowned, a confused look upon her face. "If he kills me, it's your fault, alright?" she said, placing her hand on her face in frustration. She went over to the front door, wiping the blood off of her headband onto it. She nodded once, seeing that it looked like it would hold. She turned back to him, smiling faintly. She sighed as she knew that she couldn't hurt him now. Why should she? "I'll assume you're telling me the truth." she replied, sheathing her sword. She went over to a slap of wall that seemed to be untouched with age. Tapping it with the back of her hand, it slid open suddenly, the woman going inside of it casually. She looked over at him. "Are you coming?" she asked him, tilting her head a little to the side. To her, the man seemed troubled from his past, something she knew herself. If he stayed here, he would surely be found out.

The casual yet enigmatic glint in his eye returned when he had sensed her travel behind him. That wasn't so much as a surprise, but the thing with the blood intrigued him. What is that? Magic? In this place? Can't get away from the stuff, can I? He mused. At the woman's invitation, Franz nodded and smiled gratefully as he followed after her.

"It's nice to be somewhat trusted, for once." He couldn't help saying. In a softer tone he added, "I would take a moment to say...you shouldn't have to worry about getting killed by him..."

Franz frowned as he tried to say something touching that would lighten the tension in the air. He was very honest about his intentions, but conveying them had always been a problem for him.

"Eh, well I mean...I'll do something about it before it gets to that point...and if anyone is going to die, it would be me first." He said, shrugging a little. With a small chuckle, he finished, "I'll just make sure to make a huge show about dying if I lose a fight so you have a chance to slip away unnoticed."

He bent his head as he walked closer to her, unsure of what conclusions or impressions the woman was making about him with every word he spoke. He'd always made himself out to be a mysterious sort who faded in and out only once in most people's lives. Currently, he'd said so much more than usual in such little time so that he wasn't quite sure what he should do with himself. She seems trustworthy, at least... Franz decided. I suppose she would believe she appears more trustworthy than I do at the moment anyway...which is not unexpected.

The woman sighed for a moment. "I'm not talking about your problem, but that's nice to know." she said, giggling a little. The elevator ran up relatively fast, dinging as it got to the top floor. The space had a creepy feel, was dusty, and the only thing that lit it up was the faint glow of computer screens....Big computer screens. The room was covered with them like wall paper, some being used as surveillance cameras; others with data on subjects that were unsavory to the eye. She looked around, twisting and turning her head. Then, within a blink of an eye, a man slid from the darkness further back to his big screen. He picked and pried at it, stretching documents and sending others away. He sighed. "You're too light on intruders. You need more focus, and less sympathy." he said, unwilling to take his glance off the screens. His stare grew irritated as he found a few people scowering around outside. "Are these...things yours?" he asked, pointing to the screen as he widened the view. "I don't like snooping near my tower." he said blankly, returning to his documents. Crap...He's pissed...she thought, avoiding his eyes.

Franz freely let his face flush at her words. And again, I jump the gun. Oh well, let's just roll with it. I meant what I said anyway... He stood rather casually. His back was straight but he had his hands in his pockets and he looked around freely as the elevator moved up.

When Franz spotted the man in the computer lit room, he nearly sighed in frustration. He nearly forgot that he was holding it in when he heard the man speak. He sounds just like my father with the whole business thing. Hands still in pockets, Franz bent over slightly to hide the serious look of consternation on his face.

Don't say it, He thought, biting the corner of his lip. Say something ELSE, even if it comes off offenseive...but just don't say THAT, you fool!

"Yes, those would be my less than savory...things, as you call them," Franz recollected himself and said in a smooth tone. "They're of no consequence...they're dumber than rocks. There were just a lot of them, and they move fast. Thought I'd take a breather here - I've been running around for days, but I got more than I expected."

Franz's boot tapped lightly as he fought the urge to say what he thought would have been right - because it still wouldn't have been a very nice thing to say. The thing was, this man's airs just irritated him. How could a man say that to a woman...? He is here with the computer screens while she is supposed to physically guard the place? Hey...why can't he think of a better system? I could have killed her easily...if I took after my father, at any rate.

He figured he was looking far too contemplative and had been silent for a little too long. Before he was asked about it, Franz put forth something else.

"I don't relish the thought, but I can pick them off and dispose of them relatively quickly if that's more your speed." He offered. "I'd be at a much greater advantage to do so now, since they've no idea where I could possibly be and their guards are down."

"There's no need for that." he replied, clicking a few buttons on the screen. "They can't see us. I'm sure they won't be a bother right now. If they do though, I may take you up on that offer." he said, smirking as he sent the screen away. "What might be in your pockets, sir? Or 'Franz', is it?" He sighed as he scanned him from top to bottom. Another person? How he hated company. "As for you, kyoko." he said, shifting his glance to her. "We'll discuss your punishment later. Keep an eye on him. He's your number 1 priority right now." She bowed with a painful expression on her face, scattered with sadness. "Yes sir." she said as she bowed to him, her voice saddened. She looked up to Franz and showed him a sad smile. "Take him somewhere else. It's a hindrance if he's here." he said before rolling back into the darkness, a few beeping sounds in their midst. She sighed and went back to the elevator. "If he's not the end of me, I don't know what will." She sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck. "Nothing I do seems to be right to him." she said as she pressed a few buttons.
