Based on the Twilight Zone episode "It's A Good Life," and "It's Still A Good Life," and the short story It's a Good Life by Jerome Bixby.
Almost a century years ago, a monster destroyed the world; sending everything and everyone to 'The Cornfield,' a place of nightmarish enigma from which no one returns. It saved nothing but a small town in Ohio named Peaksville, and the few families living there. He kept them around solely for his entertainment, and when they began to lose his interest they too went to The Cornfield. This monster was a 6 year old child by the name of Anthony Fremont.
40 years later, Anthony Fremont had a child; Audrey. This little girl was tempted by the survivors of Peaksville to turn on her father... To no avail. She followed his example, sending those who displeased her to The Cornfield. Anthony and Audrey went on a spree; soon the town of Peaksville was left empty but the two god-like mutants. They soon realized their mistake- with no one left to displease them, there was also no one left to entertain them. Luckily, Audrey hadn't only inherited her father's horrible powers; she had a few of her own. She could bring back people from The Cornfield, a secret that had been closely kept. Using this to bring not only Peaksville, but the entirety of the world back, Anthony and Audrey decided they would tour the world.
The place is New York; the time is the year 2012. Anthony and Audrey Fremont are long dead... But their descendants run rampant through the city. Gifted with ungodly abilities, from as mundane as hearing thoughts and feeling emotions to as horrible as sending things to The Cornfield, these people are tearing the very fabric of existence apart. Some abuse their powers for self-pleasure; some use it to save others. Some use it to simply survive... Some avoid using it at all costs for the same purpose. No matter how they use it, however, it further unbalances the universe; as evidenced by the city itself falling apart. Stars falling from the sky, the earth tearing itself open... Monsters roam the streets, created straight from the minds of the true monsters.
This is where you come in; you're one of them. Your world is falling apart, all because you were born different. The 'regulars' still surviving in the city despise you; you're ostracized from society the moment you reveal your differences. Even the others of your kind don't stick together; most are interested in one thing only. Destroying the humans. They want the world for themselves- so badly, they don't even realize they're destroying it in the process of getting it. So where are you in this picture? Are you one of the revenge-fueled monstrosities, plaguing humanity with your ungodly powers? Are you a surviving 'regular', living in fear of death every moment of your life? Or are you one of the few who realize that the madness must end, before it all comes crashing down...?
