_______________WHO: Kaoru & Pana
_______________WHEN: Shortly after noon
_______________WHERE: Town square, shopping plaza
_______________WEATHER: Crisp, cool, clear

It was that time of year again, and she wasn't sure how she felt about it.

Gliding towards the shops that lined the busiest part of the town, Kaoru found herself at a bit of an uncertain standstill. Once upon a time, the season of giving had been a source of joy and thrill; joy at the notion of spoiling her loved ones rotten, and a thrill of something darker that came with the snowy weather, an aura of something sharp and almost dangerous that clung to the teenage Scent like a mantle. Standing there amidst the frosty cobblestones, wearing her favored crushed-velvet gown that cinched at the waist and kept her branch-laden shoulders bare, she felt she was leaning more on the darker aspect of her make-up. All that had happened with Orpheus, though it was so long ago, still lingered between them with a bitter air. Her ailing mother, the despondent vampire that fret over her failing health...

The Scent closed her crimson eyes for a moment, finding her focus and holding tight to it within her bosom. Now was not the time for pity. Opening her heavy-lashed eyes, she gathered the soft length of her gown and continued towards the stores, both oblivious and careless of the looks she garnered. One did not walk around Midori with branches on one's body and not get a double-take.

Decorations were already going up, bright and festive. The lights that embraced the light poles and the brilliant tinsel that winked in the midday sun lent to the vibrancy that the holidays promised. Stores were beginning to put out wreaths and handmade decor; nutcrackers, faux presents, wintery animals formed out of boughs and poinsettias as forerunners for the most commonly used. Kaoru couldn't help but smile a little as the shop owners bustled to make their wares as welcoming and enticing as possible. It was the season for it, after all. Pausing in front of a high-end clothes shop that displayed the finer threads for nobles, she watched the proprietor set out an impressive snow globe with a gentleman dancing with a bedazzled woman to the soft tinkle of music, quietly touching the locket about her wrist.

There! At that store window!

Pana had been trailing the Christmas spirit for quite some time now, hiding behind lamp poles, empty merchant boxes, and even a disgruntled person or two. It was not that the Christmas spirit would be particularly aware of Pana, but Pana didn’t want to take any chances. I mean, if the Christmas spirit caught her following her, she might curse her with bad Christmases forever!

Are you wondering how Pana came to the conclusion that this being was the actual deity of Christmas? Well, it was quite logical, really. First of all, this woman had empty tree branches for wings, like the barren branches of winter. Secondly, she wore a velvet cloak. Which, she suppose, wasn’t so much Christmas-like as her manner of wearing it. She had a regal air, which seem to command the world around her. It was as if this newly winter scene was at her whim. And thirdly? Well Pana decided she was, and that was all it took.

Pana’s breath puffed delicately into the crisp air. The Christmas shoppers and merchants seemed effected by the chill, but Pana wasn’t. Being warm blood (so to speak), her attire didn’t change much for the cold. Her swirly hair curled over her ears in a princess-layla style. She still wore her flat brown boots, but instead of her dress, a light tan coat with fur trim covered most of her upper body. This coat was worn mostly out of respect for her guardian. (Translation: MAJOR convincing from said gaurdian)

As Pana watched this newly discovered spirit, she debated approaching her. In truth, Pana needed help finding Christmas presents for her family; however, her problems seemed trivial compared to what the Christmas spirit helps with everyday. Even so, Pana wasn’t the type to sit shyly on the sidelines. Mustering up some courage, Pana decided to approach her. Shuffling over, she tugged on the velvet cloak and politely said:

Excuse me?

The teen bowed her head politely to the proprietor that saw her, smiling at the slightly befuddled look he gave her before disappearing back into the shop. Kaoru could feel the warmth of the stores beckoning, but she was not yet ready to choose one to peruse. Tilting her chin to turn her ruby eyes upwards, the pomegranate femme was utterly unaware that she was being followed -- or stalked, however one wished to look at it. She was prepared to make her way down the line of storefronts when there was a light tug at her gown, earning a startled expression on her delicate features as she looked to the source of the snare.

She was surprised to find the most lovely girl tugging at the dark fabric, smelling of something sweet, a warm milk and vanilla scent that was made aromatic by the earthier touch of almond. Kaoru was extremely surprised to encounter a Scent after so much time away from everyone, but it did her heart well to see the girl. The dark-skinned child was positively beautiful! The teen very acutely missed her friends just then, hoping that those she had met were doing well - especially one certain male teen that never really seemed to leave her thoughts. Folding her hands together at her hips, she offered her full attention and a curious tilt of her head, wine-chestnut curls spilling over her branch-laden shoulders and down her back.

"Good day," she greeted the creme-haired girl with a kind smile, though the brilliant color of her eyes was unusually darkened and subdued. "To what might I help you with, friend?"
