MIDERA

A country built upon war, labouring northwest of Pasaid. Midera has made many enemies through its war-based history, trying to conquer islands near it. It grows precious little, exporting only second-rate weaponry (they keep anything new they come up with to themselves until it is obsolete) to fund itself. Combined efforts to conquer it have failed as its military are stronger and generals are smarter than all the others. The little it grows is just enough to sustain it, and since it doesn't export the food it can last years even when imports are cut off.

It is also famous for some of its scholars and philosophers. It is thanks to these geniuses that new weapons are made and negotiations are had to settle disputes amongst other countries so that Midera isn't attacked day and night. It has it's own mages, but they only know how to teach the gifted as they cannot use magic unless on Pasaid.

Now, it is secretly trying to conquer Pasaid. Any open attack will provoke all the other countries because they all hate Midera and several also plan to take Pasaid. It tries to use different tactics, such as destroying the kingdom from within. It has placed agents and spies within the castle.

It is a hot, somewhat dry place so it is perfect for training outside. Not much green lays on the island, only some farms and a small forest. It has several rivers and cliffs, only allowing two harbors because the rest of the shores are too dangerous. It has many towns and buildings, all made of mud or stone. Its only proud monuments and buildings are arenas and sites of great civil war.

Its culture is based on battle, but it's not about the strongest and the one with the most kills. The most loyal and honourable warriors get the best treatment and get the most income for their families. Honor is based upon how well someone fights, mostly how many men you can fight without killing them or dying. In true combat though, it is to the death. Contrary to popular belief, expansion is more of an urban dream than a call of religion or honor.

Breaking any law, including religious, is punishable by death. Every warrior takes battle seriously. To even joke about fighting is taken seriously. Every battle that is not declared otherwise is to the death.
