Okay you want to learn how to role-play so that everyone has fun? Here is how-to.
1. Attacking.
God modding-attacking someone and controlling their reaction, otherwise kicking everyones asses without their consent.
To prevent god-modding state your attack but leave the damage and reaction to someone else.
(example. Note this is an example so it's hella-short.)
How-to
Sipher wrote: John Swung the sword at Jills face.
Ladyante wrote: Jill side swept and kicked out at Johns groin.
Sipher wrote: Jills kick hit the mark making him double over in pain.
How not to
Sipher wrote: John swung his sword at Jills face cutting her head off in a brilliant spray of brain matter and crimson.
Ladyante wrote: Jills dead sad

Doing this can and will ban you from the guild, please do things in a way that is satisfying to everyone.

Defending
How to
Sipher wrote: John swung his sword at Jills face.
Ladyante wrote: Jill catches the sword with her bare hands and sends John flying backwards.
Sipher wrote: John lands in a pile of crates creating a painful landing spot but gets up quickly and runs at Jill trying to pile drive her.
Ladyante wrote: Jill side-steps and kicks his butt.
Sipher wrote: John fly's wayward and tucks into a roll then jumps off the and hits the wall spring-boarding up high above Jills head.
Ladyante wrote: Jill side-steps and kicks him in the stomach on the way down.
Sipher wrote: Your invincible sad
To defend well use the tactics above, just not in excess.
Grammar.
Believe it or not we are all grammar Nazi's, a few mistakes here and there are fine but too much can destroy an rp.
DO NOT SHORTEN WORDS!
example:
Sipher wrote: John was like "So r u goin 2 the thing?"
This will make people feel stupid and they will quit the rp. This is another thing that can get you banned in the guild USE PROPER GRAMMAR!!!
And no shouting in excess.
example:
SIPHER WROTE: JOHN SWINGS HIS SWORD AT JILLS FACE.
People will be like "Oh my god, I'm freaking out of here."
Now if your character is actually shouting its okay.
example:
Sipher wrote: John felt the anger curling up inside "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!" he roared.
Please do not do this too much as it can get quite annoying.

This guide is incomplete, I will add more later. Add more to it if you want.

yes third person view is preferred!

Agreed with justin try to refrain from godmodding and auto hitting unless you plan things out with the person before hand.

No shortening words such as sipher had said also meaning no text talk!

Do not be UBER powerful. That makes the roleplay less fun.
