When she was fourteen, Catherine's two sisters enlisted in the army to get money for their ailing mother. However, during the Mad King's War, their mother perished. Catherine, wanting to remain with her sisters, lied about her age and joined the army as well. When her sisters found out, they tried to persuade her to live with their aunt and uncle, but she declined. Therefore, they tried to discourage her by pushing her hard. Around the begining of Radiant Dawn, Catherine's sisters leave the army for unknown reasons. As a result, Catherine leaves and becomes a traveling mercenary looking for leads on her elder sisters.
