The Village of Cannaire...XXXXXX

Welcome to the beautiful Cannaire Village. It is a small city on the Siohchan Coast, divided into two halves. The first half is a humble little series of residences scattered around a grassy plain surrounded by tall, thick trees. It's not very populated, so the community knows one another well. They're all very tight-knit, almost cozy. If someone's sick, they know who to go to. If someone needs to repair clothing, there's no trouble getting to the tailor. It's like one big family, in a way.
The second half merges easily into the first, going to the other part of Cannaire is never a struggle. It's more of a port/market. Several boardwalks lined with cargo storage, Ma and Pa shops, restaurants and other food places. Goods are imported and exported here, but it is not a main port city like Reuben, for example. This part of the village contains much more commerce and commotion unlike its other half. Many ships and people come to shop, eat, prepare for a voyage, or simply just to stroll along the white, sandy coastline and enjoy the warmer waters.
Most of Cannaire, particularly the part more densely-wooded, lies right next to the Ahmeyed Forest. Quite a few villagers fear their children wandering inside and getting lost, like many have before. Because of this, villagers will make up stories of banshees and ghosts haunting Ahmeyed to scare their children into obeying their warnings. From this, though, a lot of children and young teenagers make the Forest a game for them; who can stay inside the longest without getting scared? Who can reach the heart of the forest first? Unfortunately there have been disappearances due to these games. When someone is lost without a trace, it is assumed Ahmeyed swallowed them up.
Other than that, Cannaire is a quaint, almost perfect place to settle down and spend your days with ease. Come kick back, relax, and have fun in this lovely Village.

The fresh sea air blew in eastwards, a gentle wind rolling through the village of Cannaire. Puffs of wispy white clouds lazily crossed the blue sky. Sunshine rained down upon villagers and bounced off walls of the buildings, casting its light on the emerald grass, the wooden boardwalks. Overall the weather created a cheerful atmosphere, and it reflected in the faces of the people, their actions, their movements. Everything was so much happier in the summertime; so much livelier.
"I'm going to work, mother. I'll see you later!" Aisling rushed down the rickety steps of their home, kissing her mother on the cheek. Before she had any chance to react, her daughter was already bounding out the door and sprinting down the hill, heading for work at the docks. Already she was in a good mood, she loved the sunshine. The lower half of her teal colored dress twirled and spun with her movements as she ran, the pitter-patter of her brown colored sandals click-clacking against the dirt paths. The slight winds brushing its fingers through her wavy locks. As Aisling passed, she waved hello with a smile to many of the residents of Cannaire, all of whom she knew. Everyone knew each other in the village; they were all like family.

"Aisling, my friend!" A girl of her age eagerly walked over to her with a skip in her step, then hugged her. "Are you going to be in the village for the Festival of Peace tomorrow?"
"I wouldn't miss it for the world, dah-ling!" Aisling exclaimed, emphasizing the syllables "dah" and "ling."
"Awesome! Can't wait. You going to work, now?"
"Yep. Ah, to be with the familiar, pungent stench of salmon and squid once more." She put her hands on her hips and laughed lightly. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Tomorrow, definitely. Bye Aisling!" The girl exclaimed before going off in another direction.
Aisling continued on the path, the smell of the sea water becoming stronger and stronger as she neared the docks. She breathed in deeply and exhaled. The scent was familiar to her; she was used to it.
The boardwalks were alive with activity. Men hauled crates from their boats to the shops on land, and vice versa. Couples leisurely strolled down to the shoreline and the edge of the docks hand-in-hand. Children ran freely, weaving and ducking in and out and in between people, crates, buildings and more. Hmph... It's not usually this busy... Aisling thought, taking a right and starting down one of the docks. She assumed it was from the Festival of Giving.
"Sally's Seafood" was displayed proudly in bold white letters at the end of a boardwalk. Aisling had painted the sign herself. Each letter was carefully crafted and carried out, she rather liked the finished design. Her eyes darted back to the door in front of her. She opened it and stepped inside, grabbing the apron off the coathook closest to the entrance on the left.
Back in the kitchen, the owner of the seafood restaurant was calling orders out to the chefs dutifully cooking away, boiling lobster and flipping pans of crabcakes and shrimp.
"Hey, boss." Aisling tapped her on the shoulder.

"Aisling dear! Glad you made it, very very glad. Business has been booming today. I sincerely wasn't expecting all these visitors! I'm gonna need to to be at your best today; there's a lot of full tables ready to be bused. In fact," Sally took a tray off a counter and thrust it forward into Aisling's hands. "Table four. Quickly!"
"You got it!" She winked and put a hand on her hip, raising the tray above her head with one hand and then blew a strand of blonde hair from her face.
Time for the work day to officially begin.

No need to watch your back...

Slowly, Chilon made his way along the side of what was called Lake Ailannes. The water was sparkling, almost like a diamond. The air was crisp and clean, the breeze coming in from the sea and the lake cool. The earth below him was teeming with plant life and rich soil, hundreds of new species at every turn. Green was all around his feet, along with almost every vibrant colour. In the magical spectrum, the place lit up with the power of life and the power of magic itself. The sky was filled with flying creatures, not so much to be annoying but enough to show even the air was full of life. All was calm, nothing out of place. It was almost as if the entire area was made for being gazed upon...

All these plants might as well have rotted away, the sky stormy and dark, the soil dead and barren, for all Chilon seemed to care. His mind was focused on tactics and other wonders that could not be answered by a simple gaze. The water coming from both sides would surely prevent escape, so all that was needed was placing two squads to each of the remaining flanks and they could surround the town. Arrows could help with any small boats, catapults and men tearing down the central area of the city easily. In fact, if they captured a few people, chances are if they threaten to launch them in the catapults and doing so every 20 minutes would likely make them surrender. But that wasn't honourable, that was simply taking lives with no fairness. Fairness was good. But what WAS good? A simple change in society can make what is considered 'good' and 'evil' change abruptly. It was all based on the general view.

So caught up in his thoughts, he never realized he had actually gone into town and was nearing several restaurants. He glanced around, confused by the calm, how everyone seemed to be comfortable with everyone. He felt unwelcome, an outsider who should not belong. In many cases, they were right, but in other ways that was wrong. His stomach suddenly growled, his male instincts making his stomach jump to the top of his to-do list. His entire mission and the concept of good and evil could wait, he was going to try the stuff called 'seafood'. It seemed to be one of the more popular foods, though his country never had good enough fishing to actually open a restaurant like this. He went inside and sat down, adjusting his green rob signifying his importance to the King and his education, or at least part of it. He made sure to grab a window seat, so he could stare blankly at it while thinking.

Aisling watched Chilon intently as he sat himself down. A royal, in their restaurant! Sally would do a backflip by the mere sight of the green robes. She'd dangle this news in front of the public's heads like bait in front of a fish. It'd be a tactic, it'd attract more customers. More customers? More cash. And, of course, cash makes everyone happy.
Unlike what her boss's first reaction might be, Aisling wasn't doing acrobatic stunts just yet. Sure, it was cool and all, but inside they were just another hungry person waiting to be fed. What she focused on, though, was the hearty tip this royal might give them. Immediately she went for his table, eyeing the other waitress heading towards it with the same motive in her mind. They made eye contact, and the two practically sprinted in a mini race to the table he sat in with nothing but the thought of that tip fueling their energy.
"Oh! Look, a spill!" Aisling told the other waitress. As she turned she inconspicuously bumped the other girl out of the way and looked at the customer. "Welcome so Sally's Seafood, hun!" She pulled her small notepad out from the front of her dark green apron, and flipped it open to a fresh page. "So! Can I start you off with anything? We've got plenty of appetizers, our special today is Captain Shirley's Salad. It's got iceberg lettuce with tomatoes, a light ranch dressing, and popcorn shrimp. It also comes with your choice of cheese. Not gonna lie, it's actually one of my favorite things to get here. And don't worry, I wasn't told to say that. I personally get shredded pepper jack on it. It sounds really weird but I love it." She winked, pen and pad at the ready. "I can also bring out some water, if you'd like. We've also got plenty of choices of wine, ale, rum, and gin." Aisling didn't know how old this guy was, but he looked around her age. Pretty young for a royal. The green robes signified he was an advisor, too. He couldn't have been elected by the queen and king, he was much too young!
Oh! This guy. He was appointed rather recently by Princess Shoshanna, she remembered now. Oh, what was his name... Charlie? Chili? Carlos? Jose? Ah, well. The only name she had to call him by was "customer," so she guessed it didn't matter.

No need to watch your back...

Chilon turned, not so used to being served so quickly. He was about to ask if there were other customers before him, but decided against it, then gave the waitress a once-over. He gave a small smile, then brushed a bit of his dark hair. He thought about the girl's reccomendation, and decided he should go with it.
"I have the pleasure of having a beautiful girl serve me. I would like your special please. No alcohol, it dulls the mind."
He leaned in close, saying quietly,
"That's my story, at least. Its mostly because the king would have my head if I ever got drunk. Though I'll take that chance to have a few with you."
He figured it was best to get back to the castle quickly, he couldn't get to close to the locals. He would probably just spend the one night with her then leave her once he had done what he wanted to do anyway.
He sat properly again, wondering if it was mostly his status that made her want to be so nice. He honestly didn't really mind though. Just gave him a few perks.
"So, I'll have water to drink. Ice please, I've always wanted to see how cool it makes the liquid."

"You flatter me, sir." Aisling stated sarcastically, then jotted down what he wanted, then raised an eyebrow and pursed her lips at his comment on drinking with her before laughing lightly. She decided to humor this royal, though her ideas and intentions were not the same as his. "And ice? You've got it." To add on to her joking flirtatious manner, she winked before turning on her heel to the kitchen. "One special!" She called, tacking the little piece of notebook paper onto a corkboard as she entered. The chefs would take care of it in around five minutes.
Afterward, Aisling headed to the back with a tall glass in her hand, where the water pump was. She pushed out enough water to fill it up to the top, and then snapped her fingers while concentrating on the glass. Three small blocks formed inside it and began bobbing around. "Yes, finally I get that spell down." Aisling had been learning a new spell from her mother, who knew quite a few handy tips and tricks when it came to magic. Making ice was one of them. Ice just made most drinks taste better to her, and the only way she could get it was through a spell. There was no way to store it.
She came back out with the water in hand, and weaved her way to Chilon's table, setting it on a small coaster. "There. Your salad will be ready in a few." Aisling folded her arms and cocked her head to one side. "So tell me, royal. What are you doing all the way out here? Nothing exciting really happens in Cannaire. Do you have family around here? The Festival of Peace is tomorrow, so I can understand that." She messed with her hair a little bit, twirling a lock of it around her finger and letting it uncoil itself before repeating the process. It was a habit, Aisling supposed, along with it being a part of her little flirty act she'd decided to play. Of course, she didn't take it seriously. The girl held no interest in "getting to know" Chilon. All she wanted was her tip and she'd be content with watching him go on his merry way back to his family, or Athreigh, or wherever he was going.

No need to watch your back...

Chilon just shrugged as he took a sip from his glass. It seemed the myth that ice made liquids cold was true. What other wonders lay here in Pasaid?
"I'm here because I ought to know the land the person I'm advising rules. Makes things easier to figure out if I see things firsthand."
He took another sip, then sucked some ice into his mouth and let it melt.
Interesting...the ice itself appears to be liquid...
"What do you do at your Festival of Peace? I'm sure you have some unique activites here, I'm sure."
He tried to look relaxed, but he had to keep a straight back to be respectable, but that meant it was hard get into a relaxing position. Instead, he leaned forward onto the table, not in an attempt to entice but to simply rest his head in his hands. He had to know what goes on in the land firsthand or right from the mouth of the natives or he might be found out to be a fraud. That couldn't happen no matter what.
"Or do you keep everything traditional and basically the same?"

Aisling glanced around, then sat down in the seat across from him. The other waitresses were handling things fine; she could take a five minute break. "It's understandable. And our Festival of Peace? Hm. It's pretty much the same. There's singing, dancing, contests, etcetera. The whole shabang. We just do it better." She smiled. "I usually help with decorations, but not so much this time around. I've been so busy working here to raise money to move out of my mom's inn that I just didn't have time for it. We usually go with specific themes, though. This year is aquatic. Everyone's expected to show up looking, oh, I don't know, nautical I guess?" She shrugged. "So you are staying for our Festival, then?" Her eyes scanned the royal, then focused in on his own. They were oddly colored, silver and red. Much more interesting than her sea green ones.
"You do realize I haven't received your name yet, oh mighty and prestigious royal." She raised an eyebrow with a half-smile, still trying to guess it in her head. Aisling assumed the name 'Chili' was out, although it was rather amusing. 'Jose' was also out. He certainly didn't look like a Jose. It wasn't the most attractive name to her.
She placed her mental bets on the name 'Charlie,' though it was rather bland for someone of his appearance.

No need to watch your back...

Chilon took another sip before answering, placing the glass down.
"I'm called Chilon where I come from. Now, what is your name, miss? I believe you forgot to mention it."
He slowly lifted the glass again to find it empty. He felt a bit angry, but he just put it down with much less etiquette as before. He took a piece of ice out and studied it with a bit of a lack of attention because he just asked the waitress a question. He couldn't be very rude. But he only took out the ice because he wanted to get a bit of his anger out, and to sold a simple mystery. In a few seconds, the ice suddenly turned to gas. If it were possible, it would be seen that the gas was all oxygen and hydrogen, twice the hydrogen as oxygen. To some, it would appear he either used minimal control over flames or the ice simply evaporated, though what he did was far more complicated and dangerous than simple combustion.
"And don't refer to me as 'royal'. I'm pretty much just like you except the king pays attention to me slightly more."

"Chilon." Aisling repeated, testing the word. Definitely not Charlie... She thought. Chilon still reminds me of Chili. Watch, I'll end up slipping up and calling him that by mistake...
As she was about to open her mouth to say her name she watched the ice evaporate in Chilon's grip. He was obviously irritated, but she disregarded it. "How did you do that? What spell did you u-"

"Number six! The special!"
"That's yours. I'll be right back." Aisling said to him, getting up and making her way past the chattering crowd of customers to the kitchen, where Chilon's salad was pushed through a hole in the wall onto the counter in front. Grabbing a tray, she put the plate on it and with one hand raised it above her head like waitresses at Sally's usually did, then squeezed her way in between aisles back to his table. "One special, Chilon." She set the plate in front of him, tucking the tray under her arm, then laughed a bit. "Pepper jack and all. Listen, I have to go bus some other tables; when I have some free time will you show me that spell?" She was truly intrigued by it, how Chilon had so quickly turned the ice to nothing. And if you knew her, you'd know that she never turns down the chance to learn something new.

No need to watch your back...

Chilron just grinned, looking at the gas and holding his hand out. Suddenly, the gas compressed into solid matter once more. He plopped the ice back into the glass.
"I may sometime. If we meet again. Now, to see why you like this so much..."
He grabbed his fork and speared his dish, then shoved it into his mouth. He felt a sweet sensation come over his tongue, swallowing it happily.
"Mmmmm...tastes great!"
He took a second scoop, savoring ever second. He realized his waitress would probably not understand exactly what he did.
"I know you're wondering what I did, and I didn't use a teleportation spell or fire spell. I used a spell that allows me to split things... down to what makes it up. I hope that helps you understand what exactly happens."
He took a few more bites, figuring the waitress would leave. If not...well, it would make things more entertaining for him. He figured he should tip her maybe a bit more for making his first time here so enjoyable.
"Hmmm...how much do you get tipped on average?"

"Kay, you're like the coolest person ever right now." Aisling giggled, putting one hand on her hip. "You have to teach me that, it's practically required now." She watched him take a bite, and smiled at his positive reaction. "Glad you like it. And I get the jyst of what you mean. Ice is frozen water, you're just taking the frozen part and removing it from the water and putting it back together, am I correct? Oh, and the tip is usually about 15% of the bill." C'mon, pay a little more than that... Aisling thought in hopes more more. Yet, for some reason, she seemed to care about that a little bit less. Her desire to learn that little trick he did enticed her more than the money did.

"AISLING! Get back to work!" Her boss called. She turned to see Sally folding her arms with the angry waitress she'd competed with smirking behind her.
"In a moment!" She called back, then turned back to Chilon quickly. "We're continuing this discussion later." Aisling pointed a finger at him. "Is that all you're eating by the way? We've got plenty of main courses or desserts if that appetizer didn't fill you up. If not, I can get you your bill." Sally was still staring at her, so she pretended to look useful and raised her tray up to make it seem like she was actually busing tables instead of goofing off and looking at magic tricks from the royal.

No need to watch your back...

Smiling as he took yet another bite, Chilon calculated how much he should tip her. She seemed nice, and the service was good. He felt like he could get a little more though. He was already halfway finished, so he could probably stand a dessert. He should ask what she would reccomend again, she seemed to know what was good.
Hmmm...I can see why people eat here. But can it mount a suitable defense? nd why do they celebrate this 'Festival of Peace'? I guess I should ask, but I need them to think I'm one of them.
He finished up with a large spoonful, then patted his mouth with a napkin gently. He noticed another waitress was inching to hopefully wrestle the tip from his original waitress. He didn't really care though. He was still slightly hungry.

While Aisling saw the waitress attempting to inconspicuously nab her tip from her, she paid no mind. Aisling simply wouldn't let them take it. She watched the waitress for a few seconds glaring, then turned back to her customer and saw his plate was empty. Carefully, she picked up the plate and set it on top of her tray. "Anything else, hun? Entrees? Dessert? What do you want? I'll be happy to get it for you."
Say you want something else, say you want something else... The thought ran through over and over again in her mind. The more Chilon ordered, the bigger the tip Aisling would get. "If you want another recommendation, I suggest our maple-glazed salmon with pineapple. It's again, one of my favorites. The fish is caught right here at the docks, and the pineapple's been imported fresh from one of the nearby islands." Her stomach growled slightly, quiet enough so no one heard. Food sounded amazing to Aisling, considering the fact she hadn't eaten at all that morning. Eating breakfast sort of passed right through her brain and now she's paying the price for it.

Chilon chuckled, but tried not to give indication that it was because of the grumbling coming from his waitress' stomach, but hisw mouth gave him away. He murmured under his breath,
"No wonder you can make such great recommendations... I believe a simple dessert would be nice for now. Does your stomach suggest anything?"
He smiled in good humour, actually interested in what the restaurant had to offer. The dish she just mentioned sounded good, but he wasn't supposed to be here too long. Best to give her the tip and run right after dessert.
