Today, Kun wouldn’t stand for the usual excuses. Action had to be taken, and she wouldn’t let her best friend’s shyness get in the way of that.
Turning away from her friend, Kun rolled her eyes. “You’re so
frustrating!” she shouted to the walls of the empty classroom.
She scanned the room, looking over the blackboards before gazing across the rows of desks.
Kun sat down on the desk she had been using as an impromptu seat. “…You know, I should just calm down,” she sighed in surrender. “Even though
you’re the one who wanted my help, since you’re not doing anything I say, I guess you don’t need me anymore…”
Tallua gave a start what Kun was implying. “N-no, I didn’t mean it like that,” she stuttered.

“Don’t worry, it’s fine,” said Kun, “This is your business, after all. You can handle it, right?”
“No, wait!” Tallie called out, grabbing Kun by the wrist to stop her from leaving. But, once she saw the evil grin growing on Kun’s face, she realized that Kun had only been playing her. “Oh, you…!” she sputtered, flinging Kun’s arm to the side. “Don’t
do that!”
Kun was unfazed. “So, are you gonna do it?” she asked eagerly.
Tallie squirmed away uncomfortably. “H-hang on,” she answered, “Not today. Like I said, I have to—"
“The theater can wait. You’re doing it today.”
“But, well, not just that. I mean, it’s the whole idea of it. Usually, girls—”
“It’s 2010, Tallua. Nobody cares about that stupid stuff anymore.”
“O-okay, but he’s my friend, and—”
“No more excuses!” declared Kun in exasperation, advancing on the blue-eyed girl. “You’re gonna do it today, and if I have to take you to Phong kicking and screaming, then so be it.”
Tallie looked around frantically, cornered and looking for an escape. But just as she opened her mouth to complain again, a voice drifted from the doorway and interrupted poor Tallie.
“Hey, is that you, Kun?” the raspy voice asked cautiously. “I thought you might be here. I wanted to talk to you…”
The sound went through Tallie’s ears like a shot. Not missing a beat, Kun grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a look. “This is your chance,” she whispered, “And you are not going to miss it. Hurry!” And with that, Kun spun Tallua around and steered her through the desks, before giving her a shove and sending her stumbling towards the door.

“Kun? You here?” the voice repeated, louder. A moment later, it opened the door and revealed itself to be a boy with messy black hair and clear eyes.
“I’m glad I found you,” he continued. “I need to talk to you about that. You know, the—” Phong stopped when he realized that who he was talking to was not the green-eyed girl he was looking for, but instead a flustered-looking ,blue-eyed one. “Oh! Hi, Tallie,” he said in surprise.
“Hi, Phong,” Tallua answered anxiously, staring at the floor and blushing hotly.
“Hey there, Phong,” Kun smiled deviously. “Hey, I’ll talk to you in a sec… I was actually about to go over to the vending machine. Be right back, hang tight.” As Kun quickly passed by, she muttered something into Phong’s ear before winking at him and leaving the room.
“So, um,” Phong asked awkwardly, , “How’ve you been, Tallie?”
“I-I’ve been fine,” Tallie responded, her hair in her eyes. There was a long awkward silence before the conversation continued. “How about you? A-are you—” she paused— “Are you doing anything this weekend?”
Phong gave a start. “Um, I was actually about to ask you the same thing,” he said. “Because I was going to go see this concert, and, you know…”
Tallie’s heart stopped. “Y-you’re asking me out…?” she asked in disbelief.
“W-well, yeah, I guess. But you don’t have to come if you don’t want!”
“No, I’d love to! It’s just funny, because…”
“Kun told you to ask me out?”
“Haha… yeah, she did. How’d you..?”
“I saw how she was looking at you. It was the same way she looked at me when she was trying to get me to ask you out.”
Pause.
“…She
would.”
“Haha, yeah. Take us two, who like each other… but are too afraid to find out if was mutual.”
“…But now we know.”
“…Yeah.” Phone offered a gentle smile.
Tallua gladly returned it, still a little nervous but relieved. “…so, who’s playing at that concert?” she asked happily.
