"Are you leaving, My Lady?"
The question short and to the point wafted down the hill, carried on the soft breeze of morning. Behind it the gaze of amethyst eyes, masking surprise and denial of worry. The male otter topped the hill, the breeze tousling his fur as he sniffed for anything amiss.
"Really, Lady, what have you with the world beyond our den? Those who seek danger often find it."
Sitting on his haunches, Hugo sighed. Chasing after the smaller otter would take away his hunting time, he was sure of it. But conscience and duty won; here he sat, watching the softly colored female trot down the hill with determination.
"You have no natural camoflauge, you know? Neither do I out here in the brush, for that matter."
Whereas Hugo's mottled blue coloring provided perfect camouflage for hunting in the lake, the otter felt a bit antsy out in the open. He'd be an easy spot for predators, the female even moreso.
Putting his paw to his forehead, Hugo shook his head. This would not end well. It never did.
