Unless one knew how Shiro was, it was kind of hard to understand why Lin preferred her first long visit to be the clan library. Shiro loved knowledge, this Lin knew and Lin also knew that Shiro would love to hear about the trip.
Not to mention Lin had heard about Shiro wanting to make an index of all elven genomes and she figured she owed him at least a visit to tell him how epic that kind of project would be.
Besides, she needed to re-introduce Miyuki to her family again, and what better way than to first head to neko trio?
Miyuki on the other hand, kind of remembered Shiro, though she couldn't remember why she hadn't been fond of him before she left with her mommy. Which was just as well, it meant she was eager to get to the library. In fact she was the first one through the door.

Shiro had set aside his work for the moment and was relaxing with Kaito while his brother told him tales of the trip. Of course, Kaito was mostly talking about the things that intrigued him the most - the food, for example, though given enough time he would end up telling Shiro everything.
The two of them were in the reading area of the library. Shiro was sitting in a recliner chair, while Kaito was lying on his back on a beanie chair while he talked. Ura was at a nearby table, playing with Shiro's new super-tablet. They had both been surprised to find out that his fingerprints and voice were accepted as Shiro's own to turn the thing on, and true to Ura form, he had installed one of his favourite games on the thing.
Kaito and Shiro looked up when Miyuki ran into the library, and though Kaito opened his mouth to keep talking to Shiro, Shiro grinned widely, his red eyes gleaming.
"Miyuki!" he exclaimed. "You're so big now! Wow, you've really grown up!"

"I grew while we were at Amon Darthir!" Miyuki exclaimed, "I even got another tail!"
It pleased her that Shiro mentioned that upon seeing her, she liked it that she was bigger than before.
"Hope we're not interrupting," Lin spoke up as she came up behind Miyuki.

"Of course you are," Kaito quipped at the same time that Shiro replied, "Of course you're not!"
They were, of course, but it wasn't as if the conversation couldn't be continued another time. Shiro did after all see Kaito a lot more than Lin, and so when Lin showed up he really had to take advantage of the fact and get a visit in.
"Come on in and take a seat," Shiro grinned at Lin and Miyuki. "I got a few more beanie chairs while you were gone, the others seem to really like them."

Lin giggled, even though it was pretty obvious, it was also funny to be reminded how different the two could be. She took a seat on a beanie chair, allowing herself to sink down.
While Miyuki simply pounced on the one next to hers, she loved the squishy feeling that came with sitting upon a beanie chair.
"I take it Kaito has been filling you in on the trip?" Lin asked.

"A little bit," Shiro grinned. "But of course your version of events is always going to be more colourful. I don't know why but more things happen to you than to anyone else I know - and that's saying something."
He had a lot of contacts, after all.
"So you have to tell me what's been happening with you," he finished, leaning back in his recliner and folding his hands behind his head comfortably.

"As much as I'd love to disagree with that, the last trip makes that impossible," Lin told him dryly.
And so Lin launched into a retelling of what happened while she was away. Most of it, when they were at Amon Darthir was pretty normal minus Miyuki's growth and the fact they had offered to bring Aethos back to help him adjust.
Things of course began to get a bit interesting when they went to Nauros, she thought it wise to mention about Celeb's interest in Haldia and how Haldia gained many suitors after her return.
The real highlight though was the latest place that had been discovered, which Lin swore up and down it was not on purpose. Which was a true, seeing as they had been stopped on their way back. She spoke of the different elves there, the half elves, their technological advancements and of course about Luk. Back when they had first discovered Nauros she and Shiro had once wondered if maybe that had been where Arthael came from, which was obviously now not the case.
By the time Lin was nearly finished with her long dialogue, Miyuki kept herself occupied by watching Ura play his game.
"At any rate," Lin finished, "We hope go back and stay there a while. I mean from a development standpoint the society is incredibly unique. Judging by the fact they still know Ancient Tongue, even if they had lived in their separate communities they probably didn't have that kind of segregation that the Light and Dark elves once had. Besides that, I mean... not to say I want to stay in one place any time soon, and frankly it might be decades from now, but this might be a place to consider to have a home."
Lin wasn't going to lie to herself, eventually she and Earendil would might want a place to come back to, and she wasn't going to deny that finding a suitable place was very limited within Arda itself.

Shiro wasn't entirely surprised about Caleb and Haldia, or by the fact that Haldia had suitors waiting for her upon her return home, but he was completely shocked by the news about Caras Galadhon and Luk and his people. He had wondered why Arthael had been unable to walk on top of the snow like the rest of the elves, but he would never have suspected that she would have human blood in her! It was simply so unheard of there!
When Lin finally finished talking, Shiro had a gleam in his eye that was hard to identify. On the one hand, it was partially the look that he got when he saw or heard about something that he just had to see; and on the other hand, it was purely murderous.
Across the room, Ura cringed, his ears flattening against his skull. He looked over his shoulder at Shiro, whose eyes were still on Lin, and it was clear that he knew what his other half was thinking.
Slowly, Shiro shifted his gaze to Ura, and Ura cringed even more. Instead of speaking to him, though, Shiro turned back to Lin.
"Well," he said slowly, crisply, his words slow and deliberate. "I think that I can honestly say that I will never again miss a trip with you, Lin."

Lin chuckled at that, she knew she shouldn't because it looked like somehow Ura got a verbal lashing of some sort. Even though nothing was said.
"I figured you say that, though honestly I'm sure you've noticed by now Shiro I almost live over there and just visit here these days."
Which was true, actually. It was like she was visiting home rather than coming home and hell, she knew Miyuki didn't have any concept of home.
"In two weeks I'm leaving for the Borderlands to meet up with Earendil and the others. I'm not completely sure where we are going after that, Earendil and I have been talking about the other parts of Arda since well... I was little. Now that Miyuki is older I feel more comfortable in heading to the Human Southland and the Northland, and knowing how we work she'll probably have grown again by the time we get there, and if not she'll be at least even more prepared."
Lin paused and thought about it, that sounded about right.
"We're also traveling around for Aethos' sake because it would be good for him to see how the other kingdoms... societies work."
"And maybe he'll learn to smile more," Miyuki added before continuing to watch Ura.
"Aethos isn't so good with children..." Lin explained, "Or good socially. Miyuki is hoping he'll learn how to enjoy himself."

Shiro nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, Kaito told me that even with the king gone, the people don't seem to trust Aethos yet. Still, time will tell. I'm sure he can adjust. He is immortal, after all."
He paused. "Kaito also told me that matters are proceeding in preparation of a trial for the old king. Apparently Rhea is talking with him and trying to get a feel for him? Figure him out? To help with the sentencing?"
He spoke in questions to see if Lin knew anything more about it.

"I don't know any more about it than Kaito does, I know that Rhea had been working on it, but I didn't spend a lot of time in the castle."
She looked over to Miyuki who obviously wanted to touch this strange thing that did things when you touched it. That was probably the most advance piece of technology her daughter had ever seen.
"I spent time in the city with Miyuki, well more watching her as she played with the other children," Lin explained, "And teaching her. Since we went to Nauros she also had to learn Ancient Tongue as well, I have to admit the world is a more interesting classroom than a real classroom."

Shiro chuckled. "No doubt. Don't ever try to send her to a school, she won't be able to take it after the life she's led."
Ura was keeping an eye on Miyuki while he played his game - he didn't need her touching it and messing up his score.
But Ura wasn't the only one who noticed Miyuki's curiosity. Shiro grinned and called out, "Ura, give her a chance to play with it a bit. Something tame, though, not one of your games."
Ura sighed, but he quit his game and looked over at Miyuki. "What do you want to try?" he asked her.

Miyuki looked up at him, blinked and then smiled widely, "Yea!"
She paused for a moment and looked back at the tablet and then back at Ura.
"What is it?"
Lin laughed at that, "She would be bored in school, and the staff would be at a lost of where to put her. Looking back on it, I don't know how I managed to go to school. I liked it better when Mom taught me."

"It's a tablet," Ura replied. He tapped the screen a few times, then thrust it into Miyuki's hands. "Here. Draw a picture or write something or something. Touch the colour you want to choose it, and then touch on the screen to draw."
Shiro grinned at Lin. "I think most of our family is bored in school," he pointed out. "With how long most of us stay as children, or how quickly we grow and how quickly we all learn - there's not much point for us, really. None of us learns like regular human children."

Miyuki didn't quite understand how that was possible, but she did so anyways choosing a red patch and then tapping the screen. It left a dot, and if she tapped it somewhere else it left another dot. She dragged her finger across the screen and it left a line.
She tried a circle, a triangle and a square the best she could and it all turned out just as they were supposed to.
"How does that do that?"
"True...." Lin murmured, "I wonder if that would mean Hana, Garrick, Faith and Hope would be able to just go normally through a school system then."
There was just so much practical learning where they were, it seemed kind of redundant to Lin.
