EDIT: We have a shop up! Not much is there yet but Here it is!

Several people have suggested this, and I do think it's a lovely idea.
But before we take it and run full speed ahead and end up with our pants around our ankles (yeah, go ahead and take a moment to get that image out of your head. xd ) the first step is to get input.

DSF has come up with the idea for a pixel shop through the guild who's profits will go towards funding contest prizes and such. However, I know some of us can't work on such a small level very well, or prefer to colour something a little larger and more detail-possible. I know I do.

So I'm officially proposing and stickying the idea of a B&C shop bennifitting the guild. Interested? Lovely! Read on.... heart

The Lineart

Recently a friend handed me some lineart and told me to have fun. (Okay, so more than that happened, that was just the nice, abridged version. biggrin ) The lineartist was SunFireDemon (who's a part of this guild) and the fun have-er is me, Andi, and hopefully at least a few of you others too.

The concept is cute, the end result is adorable, and I think there's great potential here.

(yes, I did have fun with my "sample" brush... ninja )

Of course, this is only my idea, my suggestion, and is, by far, not the final or only option.

Don't really like them? Have some of your own lineart (either already done / ready to be drawn) that you don't mind offering instead? Feel free to post and say something! (though if you don't like it at all, please don't say that.... Feelings would be hurt, people would cry, etc etc. whee )

A Name?

Andi's not the most creative person, and she knows that. Left to her own devices, she'd possibly end up calling the shop Fluffly McFluffle's Shop O' Flower Fluffies and, whilst it may be full of alliteration, no one really wants that name.... Do you? o.O

So even if nothing else, shove those creative thinking caps on your colouring heads and suggest a name or two or... Seventeen? eek It can be pet specific (like something that's in tune with the pets specifically. "The Flower Fluffies") or Pet Unspecific (doesn't matter the pet, only that it's a shop, "Fluffy McFluffle's Fancy")

One name that's been suggested is "Pea Pals", which is pet specific.

Please feel free to suggest names. biggrin

The... Other Stuff

Once we have the lineart settled on, and the shop name, obviously we're ready for a shop, right?

Er... no?

We still need colourists and such!
Shading templates anyone?
If there's RP, an RP manager.
A shop manager, even! (Though I'd kinda like to claim this one unless people have issues? ninja )
Maybe even someone to keep up with the owner's list!
Item makers.
Certists/Cert makers.

Oh my, that's a lot....
So if you're interested in helping, feel free to post and say something, offer your services, point us in the right direction!

Colourists - The lineart will be availiable for shop members to colour as they have the time/desire. Do you have to use the shading templates provided? No! You can if you want, but feel free to find your own light sources, and decide where the light falls. Do you have to colour a specific quota a month? Nope! So if you offer up 4 sets one week, great. You dont' have to keep that up though, and if you never colour again, that's okay. Yes, there will hopefully be some standards maintained as to the quality level of pets sold. (As long as if doesn't look like you spent 3 minutes in Paint with the fill bucket and flat colours, it should be fine.)

Shading Template-ers -
Cell style? Soft style? Soft cell style? (Which does exist! ^.^) Your own sort of style? It's all good! If you're interested, show us some examples (point us towards your portfolio... biggrin ) And you know the good news? Andi's discovered that PaintShop Pro (at least PSP9) can open .psd files and maintain layers and such. Reportedly, Photoshop can also open .psp files, but we've yet to prove this ourselves. ninja So if you can save as one of those formats, then anyone using a program that can read 'em can use 'em. (If you don't have a program that can use 'em, talk with us and we'll try to figure out a way. ^.^) Eventually we'll take all the submissions (if there're more than one per style) and shove them into a poll and make people vote on their prefered. Just to have a guild "standard".

Others - Er... yes! Let us know what you're interested in, samples, etc. (Andi's getting tired, so this is getting more and more fuzzy as time goes on, so sorry. Hopefully someone can tell her what all should go here? whee )

Monies!!!

Most people will argue that the underlying purpose of having a shop is all about the money. Whilst we may argue with them, there is the factor of gold, regardless.

Now, you're doing all this work, slaving away for hours, your hands are bleeding... Actually, if you reach that last point, you should stop working and consult a doctor. o.O Anyways.... You're doing all this and might start to wonder what all's in it for you.

.... You know you are.... biggrin

What's in it for you is as of yet undecided for specifics.
Obviously as we'd like to have this as a guild project and raise monies for guild things, part of the income is going to have to go to the guild. Right now, I'm thinking somewhere between 20 and 30% of the gross income right to the guild's mule for guild stuffs. ^.^

That leaves us with 70 to 80% to pay everyone else who did hard work.
Quite a bit of that will obviously go to those who did the most work - the colourists. Other staff members might not want to work for free and would like a percentage of something or another. Maybe it's a percentage of every pet, or a set, once a month fee, or... Something.

I'm not sure what. So please suggest things.
Who knows... Maybe you're all willing to work for free? biggrin *bricked*

The Details
"What about Breedings? Auctions? Pet trades? Customs? Who does all that, where do the profits go, how do we decide???!?!?"

Well, we try to decide now and work things out before we're out there, it's happening and our pants are starting to slip down again.

Breedings will probably be open on a colourist to colourist basis. Or maybe there'll be a PM sent 'round every so often asking colourists if they'd like to be open for breedings this week/fortnight/month/whatever and roughly how many they'd like to do. Once we have this info, the breeding post could just say "Four slots availiable... this many by soandso, etc. Send PMs" and, if the owner has not requested someone specific, it'll go to whomever sees it first, or whatever.

Auctions will be limited and will have to have the approval of someone high up (*cou*Appple?gh*) and you can work the details out with them. Of course, we can't have people doing auction after auction after auction, so something'll be in place to limit it. (Maybe a specific colourist can only do an auction every three months? Something.)

Raffles will also have to get approval, though can possibly be more frequent. Though maybe one out of every raffle should either be free or have profits go directly to the guild? We'll figure it out. ^.^

Customs will be similar to breedings.

Pet Trades will need approval. One every so often can be "free" but possibly anything more than once every month or so will have a slight fee (about 1k or so) so that the pet you're giving out will still bennifit the guild. Maybe not though.

Like I said (or maybe I didn't, but we can pretend) these are only suggestions. Please feel free to post your own thought and ideas on stuff. Good things happen when we all work together. ^.^

domokun i love the line art up there and i'd love to be a colorist!! I've had pet shops of my own before and they always slowed down to almost a stop becuase i coud never come up with great line art like that. I have photoshop 7.0 so thats what i'd be using to color. Myabe i can even learn some ticks along the way 3nodding domokun

*chuckles* I'm sure Sun'll be glad to read that you all love her stuff. XD
(she thinks it's not that good... stare )

And Photoshop is probably what most people'll be using to colour....
I have it, though personally prefer PSP.
But I'm sure you'll learn tricks from people.
I know I've learnt a few already, and think I've taught others a few as well.

domokun otherwise i was thinking too, like you know that contest thing were having right how were we have to color that horse, we could do something like that and take the 'best' entries from that and sell those. That way we'd have a lot of pet to sell.
I'm no good at making certs though... v.v i've tried a few times i just don't have the graphic design skills to make them look all purdy like domokun

-Glomps her Co-Captain.- Lovely thread, thank you for making the shop take off. One quick thing I would like to add. That 20% or however much it is that is going to go to the guild will actually go to the guild MULE ((Color My Fancy Shop Mule)) This way I can use the money for guild prizes rather then it going RIGHT to the guild to ONLY be used for subforums >< Either way the gold will still ONLY be used for shtuff for the guild.

I'd love to color that line art. But then, I saw the originals in process... ninja

The idea of using the best of the contest thingys would be neat too, but then we'd have to get lineart not associated with particular shops, and breedings and stuff may be tricky.
