"I'm so bored... All the terrain look the same. Few bare trees in between, even fewer waterholes, scrubs all around the place, and I've got nobody to talk too. On times like this, I wish I belong in some sort of a clan... But who would want a lonely cub like me?"
A young female hyena dragged her legs, too tired to walk properly. Her tail was almost touching her ground as she sniffed around for some water, or at least a small prey of some sort. Giving a sigh, she laid down on the baked earth and turned to her sides.
Then, Pomera gave a soft and irritated mutter, "I hate the dry season..."

(( Guess Rae'll be an adolescent in this one. =D ))
The hot sun beat down on Raeros as he gave an irritated twitch from where he was lying on the ground. Half concealed by a rather large shrub, he wanted to be hidden from the rest of the living. At least for today.
Thirsty... tired... At least his fatigue could be cured with some sleep. Rae pawed absentmindedly at his scar, his eyes surveying the terrain lazily. If there weren't any creatures in sight, he might be able to chance a quick nap...
Rae's ears perked as the thing he had mistaken as a distant, discolored scrub moved slightly. Were his eyes playing tricks? The heat did seem to be clouding his mind... Raising his head slowly, Raeros gave a closer look at the "scrub".

{And Pomera is still a wee cub. =P}
Suddenly alert, Pomera quick stood up on fours and looked at the new, stranger hyena. Bigger then her, and a male judging from his smell, she gave a low growl to warn the male to keep away.
"Back off!"
One can never be too careful. And when water is a rare sight, it made the young female cub pretty grumpy from thrist and hunger. She crouched low, her position showing that she is ready to spring at any moment now if she feels threatened.

Raeros watching the figure from his spot next to the shrub. The heat was really getting to him. He merely yawned at the cub and twitched his ears slightly.
"S'alright..." he said, speech slightly slurred. Seeing that the other one was still feeling threatened, Rae decided to get up and sort some things out. He took his time, showing that he was in no mood for anything hostile. Rae finally got up on all fours and, with another huge yawn, loped slowly towards the other hyena.
"Wha s'matter with you?" he called. "Are y'lost?"

Pomera eyed the male, and laid down with her head on her paws. After a moment's silence, she made a hasty reply, "I'm not lost. I've always been alone. and you?" She kept her eyes on the male at all times, and did not move a muscle as the male approached.
She resisted the urge to yawn, and tried to cover up the rumbling of her empty stomach. She was feeling tired, she showing it might just be her weakness.

"Name's Raeros. Prefered t'be called Rae. I've always been alone too... Though I am on good terms with one of the clans." Rae stifled another yawn and attempted to shake the sleep from himself. He sat down near the cub and blinked at her with heavy lidded eyes. She definitely showed signs of fatigue and hunger, as did most lone travelers he had come across.
Raeros noticed that she was still very much on guard. "It's alright, as I've said before. I'm in no mood for any unfriendly acquaintances. And I didn't quite catch your name?" he said, inclining his head slightly.

"Pomera." She said quickly, relaxing a bit as she gave a sigh of relief. She wasn't in the best mood, or shape, for a fight. "That's Po-mer-ra... And you can call me Po or Pomer if you want to, I don't mind much."
After a short paused, she asked, "You're Rae, right? May I ask why you're a loner?" She blinked, and closed her eyes. It felt nice to talk to someone after being alone for so long...

"Po?" Rae chuckled at that. "Well if you don't mind... Mind if I call you Mera? Sounds nice. Though if you want something else, s'alright."
He got up again and stretched his tired muscles. "Well let's see... I don't like crowded places. Who does? Decided to leave my family for a while. Guess I never found 'em again." Rae shifted his weight from paw to paw. "Though I ain't that much of a loner... Got a few friends here 'n there. And the Imara'll welcome me if I decide to quit wandering."
He laid back down and once again began pawing absentmindedly at his scar. "And what's your story?" he said inquiringly.

"Go ahead..." Pomera replied lazily as she laid on her side, "Mera sounds nice, and pretty too." She slowly opened an eye, and nodded, "Well, my family abandoned me, or at least I think they did. I woke up to find myself alone next to a waterhole as a small cub..."
Thinking for a few seconds, the cub continued, "I was feeling loney when you came along, Feels good to talk to someone other then yourself once in a while."

Rae smiled slightly. "Glad we've broken the ice. So... got anything to do? I was just about to settle down for a nap." He rested his head on a paw and dug around in the earth with the other.
Raeros felt himself getting sleepier once more. He felt weighted as he lay under the baking sun. "Quick... say something before I drop off..." he muttered half-jokingly.

"Yeah..." Pomera yawned, and nodded, "But I'm sleepy too..." She yawned, and stood up slowly with a wobble. Giving another yawn, she went over to Rae and licked him, before prodding him with a paw, "Hey, are you hungry or is it just me?"

Rae grumbled and batted away Pomera's paw. He opened his eyes blearily and sat up.
"A bit... y'wanna grab a bite t'eat?" He gave a wide yawn and shook his head to clear it. Getting up once more, Raeros gave a quick scan of the surroundings. It seemed pretty bare...
"Where to, then?" he asked the cub.

Pomera took a look at her surroundings too, and shrugged, "Did you pass by anything on your way here? A waterhole, a dead animal, anything? Maybe even some animals that we can take as prey?"
Her stomach gave a low grumbling, and she sat down on the baked earth, "I'm hungry... And thirsty. It's horrible on dry seasons, at least we can find water during the rainier times of the year..."

"Perhaps. I suppose we'll have to do with whatever's around." Rae paced around, his tail waving in the air behind him.
"There's a few carcasses back that way..." he tossed his head in the direction as he spoke. "Dried out from the heat, though..." He doubted they were clean, anyways. Sudden death of a group of animals probably meant sickness.
Rae shook some dust from his coat, and turned to look at Pomera. "Have you had any luck?"

Pomera shook her head sadly, "The only luck I have is bad luck. I haven't seen fresh food, or rather prey, and clean water for days... It's a good thing most dead animals I found are mostly clean. They taste so awful though..."
She sighed and stood up again, and took another look around, "Let's just head in one direction. Sooner or later, we're bound to find a clean waterhole. And a waterhole means prey too."
