Greetings.

Please utilize this thread to discuss language representation within certain generas of music, and why you think it happens that way. (As in, why you think language group X is heavily represented in genera Y...) There might not be that much discussion in that, but oh well, try to think of something, yes?

Now...what languages have you noticed heavily represented within what generas, and what are your favorite bands of those generas who sing in those languages?

Italian and Spanish both seem to be heavily represented by pop music, although sadly, Italian music isn't really that great overall. I don't really listen to bands, per se, in either language, but my favorite artists for Italian are Cesare Cremonini, Luca Dirisio, Nek, and Fabri Fibra. For Spanish, I just listen to random songs xD.

The Scandinavian languages also seem to be heavily represented by metal, but I don't listen to metal and I don't listen to Scandinavian music that often, so I can't really say much.

And I want to say American English is represented heavily by rap and pop, but it's pretty much everything xD. I guess I'm just biased because I like both rap and pop lol.

And then there's Hindi music...which is all over the place...

The Scandinavian languages are very heavily represented by metal, which seems to be because the metal scene in those countries is so large and musicians of other genres tend to sing in English.
Icelandic-language music seems to be mostly folk, though. My favourite Icelandic musicians are Ólöf Arnalds, Rökkurró, Ljótu hálfvitarnir and Sigur Rós.
Finland seems to have a thriving experimental folk scene. My favourite Finnish bands are Joose Keskitalo and Parvohaarju.

Persian music is mostly known by Iranian traditional music,Naturally. So it's not really interesting to talk about it.

I know of quite a few German industrial bands, and before I came here I thought that was the major German genre. Eh, it still might be since so much played here is in English, but they do have German pop and rap and everything else imaginable, too.
