The forest is just outside of the village, surrounding it for miles and miles. There are dangerous animals and bugs, as well as treacherous swamps and indentations. It truly isn't for the weak of heart, in terms of lone navigation. It is specifically there to conceal the village and create difficulty for outsiders.

User ImageShiki was pretty confident that nobody would follow him, or at least if they did, they would be competent and cautious enough to try a sneak attack like a true ninja. Sadly, Shiki was hoping for too much. With his speed, Shiki was able to move, but he didn't get far before he was caught up to by a genin. Probably took a shortcut or something, not that it mattered to him, it's not like this little girl would hinder his path any.

Shiki stopped on the branch that she threw her kunai at, and he looked down at the kunai. "Huh...if you were sure of yourself, you would have thrown them AT me, not at the branch..." Shiki said, kicking the kunai down to the ground below, listening to her words. Ah, the young and naive. This woman, useless? She was serving her purpose quite well, if you ask Shiki. As for giving her back? Well, that wouldn't be happening.

"Well girly...how old are you anyway? Seven? Eight? Doesn't matter. This woman right here is serving her purpose quite well, and someone coming to her rescue proves that theory quite well, even though it's simply a genin. You're too young to understand, and even if you could, I don't plan on explaining it to you anyway."

Shiki kept the woman hoisted on his shoulder, adjusting his weight to make her comfortable. "I could care less about her body...well, that's a lie. She'll make a good hostage and shield in Kumogakure, I'm sure. Raikage is probably planning a trade of sorts...stupid move, Konoha is probably smart enough not to do so, but I'll do anything so long as I'm getting paid for the mission. My partner, Mikazuki, showing up as a distraction helped." Shiki's lie came out smooth and without a stitch, and obviously, he expected this little genin to run and tell someone about Kumogakure getting involved. It helped to know the names of such important people, and Mikazuki's arrival only helped further his claims and blames.

"Still, I've got a problem with beating up children, so you've got two options. Leave, or face the consequences." Of course, Shiki could have just teleported away, but what kind of ninja would he be if he ran from a genin. He could put a quick genjutsu on the woman and be done with this little girl instantly, which is exactly what he decided.

User ImageUtau was rather irritated with everything that was happening. The higher level ranked ninja were being made a mockery of. Letting an invasion happen right underneath their feet, it was embarrassing. This was another reason why she hated this place. The Land of Fire was considered a great place and had many powerful beings in its backgrounds, but that meant nothing. If the current ninja now couldn’t even stop a simple invasion, then the village would burn to ashes. These thoughts always went through her head and she hoped that one day, she would be the one to drop the fire.

Standing on the branch it did seem she had caught the attention of the ninja. Well of course she wouldn’t throw the kunai at him. After all, if she did, then most likely it would hit her sensei. Utau didn’t really care, but it wouldn’t be an accomplished mission if her sensei was ripped to shreds. Standing there she eyed the kitsune mask, it was rather fetching. Of course Utau would only wear a mask if she became part of the Anbu, but that may not happen. Her future was pretty much obscured as of now and she could only really think of the now. Crossing her arms over her small chest again, she eyed the woman on his shoulder. A worthless woman that was for sure. Sighing, she really shouln’t be disrespecting the woman who was supposed to be training her, but it was a force of habit. Utau didn’t respect anyone, not even the clan’s leader. Starring at him, there was a real meaning behind this kidnapping. It wasn’t planned, but it seemed whatever he was using her for, was working.

Utau didn’t like not knowing what exactly was going on, which made her anger flare just a little. As he tried to guess her age, she slightly smirked. This man probably didn’t respect people either, because clearly she wasn’t as young as he predicted. Yet he did say that the plan was working, whatever it was. Thinking on it, she couldn’t really estimate what was going to happen next. Then he went into detail. As she listened it became bluntly clear, her sensei wouldn’t be around that much longer. This masked man was bent on taking her and Utau would just let him go, if she really wanted to. Sighing, she reached into her pack again and took out… nothing.

There was nothing in her hands left the pack, just the gloves that were tight on her skin. Maybe he would notice the mistake, but it wasn’t one. Utau knew what she was doing, she always did. ”Taking a hostage means you are weak if you actually believes it will work. Sacrificing others is better, because then you don’t have to deal with their whining later.” Standing there, she could feel a smile creeping up her lips. Even if she had no idea what kind of power this man had, she was always confident in herself.

Stretching her arms upwards it seemed she was going to let him go, but she wasn’t. ”I choose option two, because I’m not afraid of these so called consequences.” When her arms lowered they were back at her sides and her dull black orbs looked at him. ”Good thing you have a mask on, because I wouldn’t want to see your ugly mug underneath.” When she finished that statement she leapt from the branch she was on and went directly for him. Yet in that leap something had happened. It dealt with the little trick she had done when she reached into her pack and pulled nothing out. Utau;s hand had quickly done a formation and then from the trees shadows underneath a clone had appeared. That clone had taken formation behind the man and as Utau jumped for him, aiming her two fists for his face and his stomach, the clone came from behind. It was aiming not with punches, but with a kunai. It aimed right for his back, better to have a larger target than a small one.

This place was precise and when Utau neared him, he could block, but may run into the kunai that was aimed directly for his back. Whoever came up with the term “a knife in the back” was ironically true.

User ImageThis girl was quite the interesting genin. She had a pessimistic outlook, spoke her mind, most likely wouldn't give a thought to double-crossing a man if given incentive. Yes, an interesting genin indeed. Too bad Shiki didn't want to take the time to train up an apprentice. Her attempts at trickery were even more funny, but hell, far be it from Shiki not to play along with the little girl. She still had things to learn before she could grow up, no matter how mature she thought she was.

With a laugh, Shiki rubbed the brow of his mask and shrugged his one arm. "You're a funny girl. Funny, and somewhat knowledgeable, not to mention you'll make a great ninja if you keep thinking like that. You're like a little me without knowing it." Shiki slowly paced the branch he was on while rubbing the chin of his mask, nodding his head slowly. "As easy as sacrificing is, it's not in the plans. Besides, whining is easy to handle. A drug here, a genjutsu there, voila." Shiki shook his finger in an "Ah-ha" manner, as if he had it all figured out. Which he did, he was just playing along without revealing much.

Shiki turned to face her as she claimed she wasn't afraid of the consequences, choosing option two. Well well, she was a gutsy type too? Shiki would have to keep tabs on this one. It seemed her attack would be coming in, and Shiki's eyes averted to his side. Not that she knew, but Shiki had a hunch she had planned something like this. These genin were just too predictable sometimes. Maybe if she hadn't spent her time blabbering, or attacked while he was talking, she may have had a good plan going. Too bad though.

Lifting up his arm, Shiki made a light toss of the jounin into the air just as the genin neared him. As soon as it seemed contact would be made, the girl and her clone both passed right through him, thus he wasn't harmed, and she would probably lose her balance. Just as she passed through, Shiki held his hands out and grabbed the jounin as she began to descend. "Upsy-daisy." He said, as he hoisted her over her shoulder again. "Now now, that last comment about my face wasn't very necessary..." Shiki said in a sarcastically disheartened tone as he leaped to a farther away branch.

"Like I said before, I've got a problem beating up kids, so I won't force my hand on you today. Besides, you're an interesting case...maybe I'll see you later." With that said, Shiki began to move again. Of course, this time he was more cautious with his work, deciding to cast a genjutsu over the area to make it appear that anyone chasing him would simply be chasing him in a circle. Hopefully, this kid didn't have some kind of back up that was capable of canceling genjutsu, even though the genjutsu itself was a bit above average.

User ImageWhen the attack seemed it was going to make impact, Utau was ready. This guy hardly hesitated besides the fact of him going off of something about her. She being him? That was completely ridiculous. The guy probably had brain damage along with facial damage if he thought that. Fraction of a second into the attack, Utau was thinking of the sensei. Her thoughts kept processing the words useless over and over again. There was some worth if they wanted to sell her on the slave market or some other whore house. But too much trouble if you asked her. She didn’t care though, Utau didn’t like losing.

Then when her punches and hit was planned, the man suddenly threw the woman in the air. Now that was different, because personally, she would have just dropped her. Her eyes narrowed and then when she was going to make the mark, her figure slipped through him. It wasn’t like going through a substance, but rather through nothing. Air passed through her and when the clone came close enough, there wasn’t enough time to dodge it. Having that irritating matter happen had set her off guard, but she could take it. After all, it was just a clone.

Instead of slowing down and passing the clone, Utau held her fists straight out and when they impacted with the clone’s midsection, there was a “pop”. Something had happened internally and the clone disappeared into the familiar black smoke. Landing on the branch opposite, she had almost lost her footing, but her heel gripped the bark and she used her hands to hang onto it. Now she was crouching down, turning in the direction of where the guy was. Looking at him, Utau was expecting him to attack or come up with something witty to say or at least something besides he didn’t want to fight her. Gripping on the branch tightly she gritted her teeth. This was a mockery of herself. So what if she was still a child, she could handle this guy. Her sensei was back on the man’s shoulder and then he headed off into a different direction. Utau was about to follow him, then stopped. A heavy genjutsu had just been placed over her and even though she wasn’t moving, it seemed like the world was.

Black eyes starred into the work of this jutsu and then she stood up straight. Some amateur would have thought they were actually running after the man, but Utau knew better. Holding her two index fingers together, she scrunched her eyes closed and then whispered, ”Release.” It wasn’t quick to dissipate like any normal genjutsu that she had been faced with, but concentrating hard enough, it shattered. Reality came back and she was facing an empty tree and forest, only filled with the creatures and herself. Sighing, there was nothing she could do now. Taking her gloves off, she placed them back in her pouch and then just stood there for a moment. Even if her appearance did not show it, she was boiling on the inside. This man had insulted her by not fighting; he was arrogant and thought that she was like him, what was he thinking? Flipping her green hair over her shoulder, she turned on her heel from this place and headed back to Konoha. It was better than trying to go after a guy who clearly didn’t leave any traces behind as to where he was going.

Jumping down from the branch, she intended to just walk there instead of using her speed. After all, she went back in the mood she was in, and then Zui would most likely end up with a black eye. Utau didn’t like this side of herself, but she would rather inflict the damage on someone else. The mysterious man was going to be in the back of her mind forever now, because he had said the magic words. Utau would definitely be seeing him again.

Kenji Shokubutsu

Kenji moved swiftly out past the village gates towards the forest. This was big taboo considering the outside world was dangerous for Genin, but somehow he managed to slip past the security at the gates; it probably had to do with the whole blitz like attack on Konoha. "We'd be lucky if that guy was anywhere near a kilometer of this place." but what worried Kenji was that he might find a limp body of a fellow comrade somewhere which is what he wanted to prevent from the beginning.

The young leaf shinobi has always been very emotion driven and at times impulsive, which goes even against his own 'logic' based fighting system. He moved carefully through the tree's using as little of the tree climbing skill as possible so as to not exhaust any inch of chakra whilst keeping a moderate pace. Finally he saw a slender small figure forming past the bushes and he could only assume that the grass like mane belonged to Utau.

Kenji jumped down from the tree landing several feet away from Utau. He rose up from the croutched position which he landed in and locked his baby blues on the girl, "Are you alright?" he asked instinctively even after noticing she didn't appear to have any external lacerations. Kenji sighed and crossed his arms, "s**t, I can't believe they got away. And so close to the Chuunin exams, too." Things didn't look too bright for Konoha especially since they'd soon become the medium for the Hidden Ninja Villages.
