Now that you've brought that up, I ought to start doing what I've neglected to do for quite some time, which is to listen to original pressings of albums I own and compare them to remasters. I know full well about the 'loudness war' going on, and it ruins the listening experience when I'm blasted with volume rather than being able to enjoy the clarity and dynamics of what I'm listening to. Honestly, it's why I don't see the point of a big subwoofer in a car, because who's going to need THAT much bass anyways, to listen to something with clarity? It's not necessary.
