This building can be identified by the tree in front which has a swing on it (on which Naruto Uzumaki is sometimes seated). Classrooms in the academy are large and have high ceilings, based on a theory that larger classrooms lead to expansive education, expanding even to the blackboard itself. In front of the blackboard is a podium, situated far from the students' desks and put in a position where the teacher can view everyone at once.

Curriculum:
Aside from the obvious lessons one would learn from a Ninja Academy, all students receive essential knowledge, such as reading, writing, mathematics, science, geography, etc. Sakura Haruno and Ino Yamanaka are also shown to have taken special kunoichi classes, where they were taught things about other cultures and how knowledge of things like flower arranging will help them to blend in during an infiltration mission. Students also have to study the Shinobi Rules. Special lectures read by highly experienced shinobi are sometimes held.

Taught by chūnin instructors, all ninja potentials are lectured on tactics and strategies. They are instructed on the basics of trap-setting. They are taken through the handling of ninja weapons and tools, like shuriken and kunai, learning how to throw and wield them through target practice. Academy students are also taught about chakra and how to use it, hand seals and the basic levels of:

* taijutsu classes serve as the Ninja Academy's equivalent of Physical education class (Moegi's least favorite class during her time at the Academy). In taijutsu class, students are engaged in physical activities to help train their bodies and develop their stamina.
* ninjutsu classes provide the bulk of what potential ninja learn at the Academy. The subject of ninjutsu encompasses techniques that use chakra and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. Techniques such as the Transformation Technique and the Clone Technique are taught to students at the Academy that will build up to what they'll learn from their jōnin-sensei.
* genjutsu classes are not touched much upon except for explaining what genjutsu is. When learning about genjutsu, students are advised to determine if they are trapped in a genjutsu, and then how to release themselves from it.

"But I'm a-" Kaoru started in a pleading voice, but the old lady she was stuck in a conversation didn't listen at all. "I believe you are the perfect match for my lovely granddaughter! Come, let me introduce you to her, a handsome young man like you would fall for her the moment you lay eyes on her!" The old lady insisted with a wrinkly smile. Kaoru groaned and restrained herself from a facepalm.

Now, how exactly did all this start? The kunoichi - yes, kunoichi, because she's a girl - was simply on her way to buy herself a breakfast-to-go, which would consist of some sort of stuffed bun. But no, this crazy elderly woman decided to mistaken her for a boy, like every other person Kaoru would meet, and decided that she'd be the lover of the woman's granddaughter. Did the lady even consider Kaoru's age?

"I just want to eat breakfast, Obaa-chan!" Kaoru sighed as her stomach growled, demanding food. "And I already told you that I'm a girl. A female, meaning I'm not a boy." The kunoichi sighed and before the elderly lady began to speak again, she made a rapid break for it.

Finally. Kaoru thought as she slowed down while she appproached the markets. She normally didn't get too bothered when people mistakened her for a boy, but it usually didn't involve becoming somebody's lover, for crying out loud. The Genin sighed again and when she approached a small stand, pulled out her wallet and made her order. "A dozen pork buns, please."

"My, what a healthy young man you are!" The middle-aged man laughed while preparing the buns. Worn out enough, Kaoru just responded with a meek grin. Another reason she was always mistaken for the opposite gender when getting food was because of her appetite, and when she was buying for both her and her father, it just made it that much worse. It must have been a family thing, because her father had said that her appetite resembled much like her deceased grandfather's.

"Have a nice day, boy!" The man said while handing Kaoru the buns. She grinned and waved back before turning to stuff a bun into her mouth, her expression falling as she did so. Kaoru then made her way to the Academy, since the streets were too busy for her, even though there weren't that many people. There shouldn't have been any Academy students out in the fields, anyway, so she figured it was a good place to relax and enjoy her meal. Once she got there, Kaoru sat herself down and leaned against of of the training post. With a faint 'itadakimasu', she began to eat and keep her eyes open for anybody she might possibly recognize.

Chisagi Tamago
_____________________________________________

"There! Now this reimbursement business is done right? I can go enjoy my life now, right Sensei?" She sighed with her hands stiffly clung onto the manila envelope that carried her final compensation. Had she not destroyed the class with her accident, she wouldn't be in this fix. The old male shinobi stared at her with a rather dry expression as he too clung on the other end of the folder. It was so much as a deadlock than a mutual acceptance to ending her debts. "Tamago, you can't exactly enjoy your life until you actually let go." And again he sighed thinking that this underachieving personality of hers would never prosper. It has been like this for almost ten minutes with her constantly saying she will finish and move on, but did not actually move on to letting the money go. It has been like this since the past few weeks she has been coming in with her average payments. As her former-former homeroom teacher, he was quite concerned about her stingy personality.

An immediate vein now allotted to the side of his head as he attempted to again yank the envelope from her hands. It took as much effort as an adult male could to pry it from her hands. Chisagi did work in the bread business, after all, carrying large bags of flour and molding it did help her physical attributes. The strength she has has grown adverse from what he has seen since she was younger. Now she was only going to get more annoying. Finally as her fingers split loose, she inclined her head to face the twisted envelope. Teary-eyed and greeted it goodbye, just like the past six weeks. "Good-bye...fruitful opportunities.." She weeped as she passed through the hallways. The teachers were rightly familiar with her but also was not above from having their faces transform into something unpleasant every time the funds beckoned her presence.

Until she finally left the entrance of the academy, she realized how much this day would mean to her. Other students in her grade has graduated and are probably kicking their new lives. Chisagi on the other hand had to stay after every now and then to help out with manual labor as well as taking double shifts at her own job to pay for whatever ungodly events that caused her dilemma from the start. And because she was so distracted, she realized that she didn't completely say farewell to the school as properly as she should. While she walked around the school and eventually into the training areas, she thought of how much good the academy has done for her. How much friends she has made and how much she has progressed. Even though she was still doing that now, Chisagi couldn't help but to crack a wry smile at those memories.

"...Now that I think about it....this was the spot that got me humiliated by those underclassmen girls!" She fused, punching the pole that was directly in front of her without actually realizing that there was a person leaning against the other side. "Damn those brats, I could never beat their premature rumps without gettin' in trouble!" She gritted her jaws as she then brought up a feasible kick to the top section of where the target lies. Treating your elders like crap..! So what if I wasn't so feminine back then! Looks couldn't kill!" She grumbled on, now pushing against the pole with her forehead in submissive anger. She wasn't always like this really. Only when her sensitive points come across her appearance. She panted out the last of her fuse until a divine aroma of some buns. Still steamy? Where did this delicious scent trace to?

Her animate habit of 'smell' harbored from her experience from working with various types of bread, dumplings, and others though commonly affiliated with bread. Her nostrils blared every so often as she ducked under some practice statures and crawled to the source. It was until she noticed some royal blue locks sticking over the edge. She easily covered the short distance and crouched down in order to see her face. Not that she was really short on reasonable explanations as to why she would be caught with such a dramatic expression, but out of curiosity and hopefully be given something to eat. "Well well well, if it isn't the blue-haired tomboy! With me, we're like the all-time breman duo, or something." She said while attempting to refer back to the older memories of their times together. "Mind if I sit, Kaoru-chan?" She was one of those faces that Chisagi liked and definitely was familiar with since her time in the academy. Well, more likely the two have been through fire and ice. Like Chisagi, Kaoru has been through a lot of crap based by appearance, though she could probably guess that Kaoru had it worse based by her looks. Not that she didn't make a lovely girl, but because her appearance was sometimes questionable.

"You know, Kaoru, you should try to grow out your hair. I bet you would look even more cute." The word was rather meaningful in a way Chisagi would mean but it also felt very dry since it wasn't a word she used to often. On another level, she felt it was suitable. "I mean, it took me a while past all those stupid 'accidents', but it's pretty fun." Chisagi couldn't express this enough though there was something of sarcasm hidden beneath the crevice of her lips as well as a sign of jokeful pride.

Kaoru was already stuffing down on her eighth pork bun before there was a voice from behind her. Before the Genin could even turn around, there was a loud thud and Kaoru jerked forward as the pole shook, causing her to nearly choke on her breakfast. Then, the voice spoke again and she realized that she recognized it. Kaoru was about to turn around to see who she thought it was until Chisagi came into view and nearly scared the living daylights out of the unexpecting kunoichi.

"Oh, Chisagi." Kaoru greeted with her mouth full before swallowing hard, all while regaining her composure. "Sure, go ahead. I wouldn't mind the company." She motioned with a grin to the empty spot on her left, as the buns were placed to her right.

Kaoru was well-acquainted with Chisagi, mostly because they shared a certain thing in common. Neither of the girls were exactly the most feminine girls in the Academy and it wasn't only one time Kaoru saw her friend getting picked on by the other girls. And it wasn't only one time that Kaoru would smack them up-right the head for being annoying. Though she didn't really care what went on in people's lives around her, Chisagi was one of the few girls Kaoru could actually handle talking to. Other than that, it would just be her and a group of guys hanging around.

This time, Kaoru really did start choking on her pork bun from Chisagi's suggestion. Did she just imply that I look...cute? She thought with wide-eyes. It definitely wasn't every day that the Genin was called cute. In fact, Kaoru couldn't recall at all ever being called cute. By somebody other than her parents, anyway. But even her father knew that she didn't care for appearances or anything, so she wasn't exactly sure how 'cute' could be used when defining her looks. "I think I'll pass on that one." Kaoru managed to say through coughs. Eventually, she went with the extremely unflattering hacking until she pretty much regurgitated the pork that was caught in her wind pipe before swallowing it properly.

"You pull it off well, though." She said with a grin while gesturing to her friend's dark locks. Kaoru liked her hair short, anyway. It made training her Taijutsu skills a lot easier, since she didn't have to deal with blue hair poking out her eyes after every spin in the air or gust of wind. Or both. "Pork bun?" Kaoru offered while taking anther large bite out of hers. She grabbed another warm bun and held in front of Chisagi's face with her left hand, giving a questioning look. Well, she did work at a bakery part-time, so she probably likes buns. Right? Or maybe she's grown sick of it. Huh.

The dull thud of a kunai entering a wood target echoed throughout the grounds, as a lone figure stood in front of a set of targets with some kunai in his hands. The person in question was Masaru, a member of the prestigious Hyuuga clan. Now one would wonder why he was here, instead of doing something like this in his own district. But the truth of the matter, was there were important meetings going on, and he wasn't permitted to go back until it was over. So here he was, at his old stomping grounds doing his daily trainings to keep his skills in check. Something he didn't much enjoy, but since it was the only place he knew where he could get what he needed done he had no choice. A few more thuds rang out, as 3 more kunai found their ways lodged in the centers of the respective targets laid out before him. With a sigh, he walked up to them and began to process of dislodging them and moving back to do this all over again.

Once he had removed each weapon from the targets, he turned to walk back to his spot. As he did so, a brief wave of nostalgia had come over him sweeping him away to some memories from his time spent here. Others would say the time spent with him here wasn't the greatest, but from his perspective, up until his little suspension he had enjoyed the time. Maybe it was because he liked proving how much better he was than people, or maybe he was just a bully. It didn't matter, since there was a rare smile surfacing on his face as he reminisced. Realizing what he had gotten himself caught up in, he shook his head dismissing the thoughts that had surfaced. wondering how long he'd been just standing there. Looking back to the targets, he zeroed in on the one in front of him. Veins then popped out around his eyes, as he activated his byakugan to help him see the targets to his side. Throwing all the kunai in his hand, a unison of thuds rang out while his eyes returned to normal. Upon looking, all kunai had found themselves in the center of each target. " Too easy. " He just rolled his eyes, once more going through the process of going to fetch his weapons.

She merely smiled at her counter compliment even though Chisagi restrained a look of circumspect. Long hair really wasn't that fun. It was annoying, but since she grew it, she felt a lot more comfortable tying it back. Either way, Kaoru did look exceptionally cute with short hair. One minute they exchanged greetings, then the next minute one of them was going to expect some chunks to be blown from their not-so-much of a reunion. The wide-eyed gennin didn't expect it to happen quite literately from hearing the coughs to her adjacent direction. Chisa immediately lurched forward and placed a hand over her friend's back, steadily patting and lowering herself to observe her facial expression. Almost unnerved by this, she began to ask some questions with a serious intent. She wouldn't feel so hot if her friend just went and left her the remaning porkbun. She may never just eat one again or eat it cold in the memory of her companion. "Are you alright?! Do you need some water? I'll try to see if-" Her words were abruptly interrupted by the sudden shift of the wonderous bun that was now in front of her sullen face. After about a few seconds of silence, Chisagi was assured that her friend would indeed be all right. Just a little display of humor. Nothing too lethal, she thought. And soon the sudden realization of hunger caused Chisa to steadily soften her strain on her spine before sitting more comfortably. "Oh good. You're fine, and thanks. Boy, I'm glad you haven't went." She snickered, making a false swipe at neck before her hands took the mildly warm bun into her palms. One bite and her expression froze to that of an awkward gaze. A few moments later, her eyes blinked in slow movements with her eyes creamed up and joyous. "Oh man, I could have joined you in heaven.. I guess in a way I'm already there!" Her voice chimed every now and then when she bit into the dumpling. The moment was great, being in the company of a friend and all. But stuff like this was too quiet. Too boring. And she's sure that Kaoru's wondering why Chisagi hasn't bugged her yet. Though her mind was too opinionated right now and with her stomach still growling after the generous chunks, she didn't really bring up anything else.

Upon her third or fourth clamp and chew cycle, Chisagi looked up in the distance. Swearing to herself now as she gulped down her food and eventually assumed how it may have been a sound heard through one, or two of her ears. She would think that her hearing aid was busting on her again as her fingers angrily spun the tiny circular panel that existed within her left ear. But as she twisted the dial to it's correct placement, she was certain that more were heard. "Hey, do you hear that?" She said now before flicking her fingertips and dusting her shirt as she rose. "Sounds like training. But I thought the classes aren't out yet?" Then again, she thought. Chisagi remembered how she was not very keen with schedules regarding other people. Either way, she was compelled to see any form of training. She then sent a smile to Kaoru and asked her if she would come see soon or after her lunch. But why go alone? Chisagi was already off scurrying her way over to the fields. Based by the previous sound that now carved into her memory, Chisagi could almost assure that the event was not very far from where they were. Surprisingly for a person half deaf, Chisagi had very sensitive hearing due to her left ear being slightly more aware with the aid on.

Often she would look around for Kaoru to pantomime rushing words for her to catch up before sending mutliple waves with her arms in excitement of what she was seeing. A person from the Hyuuga clan. Distinctly the set of pale eyes and wiry veins that ruptured around his eyes. She was thinking; how deadly those eyes were. To be able to see through objects and trace chakra from various sources. But even so, it was his coordinated movements that almost seemed spurious. Eyes of her own then scanned the floor, seeing the many kunai and projectiles scattered about. And eventually noticing him picking up where he left off. He did look rather familiar though. But not anyone she's see in her grade? Even now, Chisagi had difficulty remembering the faces of her classmates, at least, the ones she was 'only' associated with. She mumbled to herself with lips that barely moved, whether Kaoru was indirectly there or not due to her mild fascination. "Are you seeing this? The guy makes my own training results look even worse.." She sighed a bit in envy and relief. Actually, seeing someone physically train was refreshing since it reminded her that she wasn't directly focusing on her own. Being addle was bliss somewhere flat in her mind.

The kunoichi simply grinned at Chisa from her reactions to the choking and the buns. "Hehe, I know my choice in food is great." Kaoru mused with a proud look. It was rather quiet and peaceful, aside from the sounds of the two Genin eating pork buns, and Kaoru was content having company on a rather bland morning. But when Chisagi asked her if she heard anything, she swallowed and sat still to focus on the area around her, to see if she could hear anything.

At first, Kaoru thought her friend was just going crazy and that she should go see a therapist or something, or that maybe it was her hearing aid going whack, but it didn't take much longer for Kaoru to start hearing faint thuds in the background. "Well we are in a training field. Somebody's probably training here, like this field was meant for." She answered with a slight smirk while gesturing to her breakfast, which was now just an empty box with small stains from the steam darkening parts of the box. "Maybe there's students skipping classes? Though I don't know why they would skip to train. Huh." Kaoru added at the end with a faint shrug before getting up as well.

Kaoru silently followed her friend towards the source of the noise, all while folding up the box in her hand so she could dispose of it more easily later, and soon a familiar dark-haired boy came into view. It wasn't long before her gaze settled onto the Byakugan that he had activated. I've always wanted to poke one of those veins. Is that weird? Kaoru thought to herself while making a rather odd expression. It was just like her to have completely irrelevant temptations at times.

"Hm. Can't really say I know where your coming from, since I'm pretty proud of my accuracy." Kaoru mocked jokingly with a smug look while poking at Chisa's head. Well, since she didn't really use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, Kaoru thought it was natural that she'd train herself a lot more in weaponry and combat. Her father would make her train her a** off in her aim, as well. "Even a kunai a mere millimeter off can determine your fate," is what he'd always say when I missed by even the tiniest bit. The kunoichi thought with a glum look. Suddenly, there was an itch in Kaoru's nose and a rather...boisterous sneeze came from her. Well if he didn't notice us before, he sure will now. Kaoru thought with the same expression she'd have when mistaken for a male.

Plucking the kunai's once more from the targets, he did it for the final time as he placed them all in a bag fashioned to his leg where he stored all his supplies. His eyes had long since returned to normal, no longer were the veins bulging out all around them. Even though he didn't have the enhanced vision, he could still tell that there were two more people around who hadn't left after he'd spotted them with his byakugan. In fact, they had gotten closer to where he was, seeming to be attracted by the noises his training had produced. To further their presence, one of them let out an obnoxious sneeze, blowing any chance of them trying to peep on him if that was what they were doing. Turning to face the two after he had finished putting away his kunais, he held an annoyed look on his face as he took a few steps closer to the two. " I believe if you're looking for class, it is right in that building over there. " Pointing towards the direction of the academy, he decided he would help them out even though he knew exactly who they were and knew they were already graduated.

" Oh wait, excuse me. You two graduated if I'm correct? " He asked the two, forcing a look on his face like he was actually putting thought behind it. " Yes, now that I think about it you two did. " Smiling as he registered just exactly who was who, he continued. " You're that boy, who everyone thinks is a girl right? And you're that half deaf girl. " He intentionally said she was a boy, well aware that she was always confused for one, making fun of her for a moment. " You two aren't a couple are you? That'd be too precious. Especially if this is the first date. I mean what better way to treat a lady, then to have her get the chance to see a real ninja. " Grinning now, his cockiness was coming out in full bloom. " No offense though, I'm sure you were well aware how much better I am than you are. So it only makes sense to come watch me, and see how it's done the right way. You're just real lucky to have such a thoughtful boyfriend. " Looking to Chisagi, he had a smile on his face trying to pass of himself as being sincere, when really he was just being a jerk trying not to laugh at the two.

Her brows immediately furrowed into her same senile expression once Kaoru's fingertip inserted distressed the surface of her face. Chisa was thinking, that maybe Kaoru was still pretty remarkable. But what she did still bugged her and the silly thing about friendship was that it also gave Chisa the warm feeling of just being associated with a gingerly person. She merely shrugged and gave a sarcastic remark with her lips snarled back in a goofy manner. "Says you, Miss I've-got-better-things-to-do-than-to-hang-with-Chisa." She even mocked her with a half-assed tone that belonged to no one unfortunate in the world. Soon after she could sense him coming near, Chisa bobbed her head to his direction.

At first, she was a bit awkward in the throat and didn't really know what to say. Sooner than expected, Chisa had a thought occurred to her to just raise a hand and spoke; "Hey." But it didn't really matter now that the guy just gone on and off on the wrong foot. Clearly with his fake sweet smile that mocked them. This kind of thing wasn't much, but when a certain person was involved, it could get pretty ugly.

"What's done the right way? Training with a bunch of poles with target stickers? My memaw has done much better! She said now with a dry expression before folding her arms over her chest after giving off a faint breath. Really, she expected this kind of thing about her 'special' condition, but she was more concerned with Kaoru's feelings about having some jerk saying stuff. Her eyes grew thinner as she continued to stare at him, shaking her head a little. From the context she saw within the corners of her eyes, she did not see Kaoru's reaction as of yet. Besides. "And I think you messed up on your words. You mean I'm lucky to have such a precious and thoughtful friend. At least from what we've watched and heard, we can both learn a little better with self-control. Right Kaoru-chan?"

Kaoru merely blinked with a blank expression while the Hyuuga spoke in that superior tone and flaunting his jack-assestry. I think he's gotten better at it. The kunoichi thought with an inner shrug when she was called a boy again, though this time it was on purpose. She wasn't exactly effected by Masaru's words, though. Even if Kaoru didn't really like to be mistaken for a boy, he was just being his cocky self and after being in the same graduating class as him, Kaoru has already gotten used to his insults. Although she wasn't really sure how Chisagi would take it though.

As if on cue, her friend began to talk back at the Hyuuga in her own sort of insulting way. "Hey, don't get too worked up about it." Kaoru said with a warm smile while patting Chisa on the back gently. "But I completely agree. She added in a murmur low enough for only her friend to hear.

Kaoru rubbed the back of her head with a meek expression as Chisagi complimented her, calling her a thoughtful friend and all. The Genin was especially unaffected by the 'boyfriend' parts of Masaru's words because, well, you know what happened earlier in the morning. "You learn a little bit of something from a little bit of everything." The kunoichi answered with a slight shrug and grin.

Now, she wasn't trying to be the angel of the trio by being all calm and all, it's just she didn't have anything to say. If it were anything worse than insulting her skills and gender just a bit, then maybe Kaoru would shoot a glare, but something like Masaru's weak insults, in Kaoru's point of view they were weak, then she could easily let them slide. It wasn't like she was bothered much by what other people did to begin with.
