Shortly after the events occurring from which Arannis held the forms of the Many, the Lone Peacemaker, Arannis Desrani, finds himself aimlessly wandering Gaia, hoping beyond hope that he could find peace at last. All this comes into question, however, upon the meeting of a strange figure...

Arannis came through to the side of a forest, finally rid of his forced-apart life, sighing deeply with relief.

The large white wolf walked close to the edge of the forest checking for any signs of people. When she didn't see any she walked a little out of the shade of the trees to sit in the light of the sun for a little. The rays of light shined off the glistening white of her fur. She closed her eyes and turned her face up to the sun enjoying the light before she headed back into the forest.

"It couldn't be... could it?"

Arannis made his way quickly to the wolf figure heading back into the forest behind him, and he leaned up against a tree, facing her, an eye raised in curiosity.

"Strange, that a wolf such as yourself, carries with it such qualities and... well-designed elegance. You are not what you seem, of this I am certain."

Mahiria jumped at the sudden sound of a mans voice. She looked at the man and tilted her head at his reaction to her. She stood and moved a little away from him trying to act like a good little wolf. She stared at him with her purple eyes and wondered curiously who he was. She made an odd move much like that of a shrug. She shifted seemlessly into her human form, much out of her normal character to shift so soon after seeing some one but he didn't seem like a real threat.

"Who are you?" She asked boldly as her ears stayed facing him so that she wouldn't miss the slightest movement from him.

Arannis folded his hands behind his back, smiling slightly.

"Arannis, and you?"

He lowered his head, chuckling slightly.

"Don't be so suspicious of me. I've met a similar being to yourself not too long ago."

"Mahiria." She said simpily as she still watched.

"I mean no offense by keeping so suspicious. It's just in my nature." She said and tried to relax.

A tension in her shoulders she didn't realize she was holding on to. She sighed softly and shook her head. "I do apologize."

"No... I understand completely. I have been through far more than any living soul should have to, and even through it all, somehow I still maintain my trust in others."

Arannis frowned slightly, his eyes betraying his sorrow for the many losses he had faced in his various travels.

Mahiria's face grew softer at the look on his face. "Though they hurt the outline of the past does make a person either a better person or stronger and sometimes both." she said and smiled softly at him.

"So what brings you to this part of the world." She said as she motioned with her arm towards the forest.

"I have spent the past... three or so years nearly in place at an inn over in Aezea, not far from the other side of the woods, focusing so hard on the multiple lives I led simultaneously. It is no easy thing, I promise you, having to lie to so many of those who find themselves your friend, while unknowing of your true identity..."

Mahiria nodded as she understood what he was talking about to some extent. Her right ear twitched and she looked around for a moment. She shook her head and looked back at Arannis.

"So did you just need some time for yourself and went on a walk or are you one the move to a new place?" she asked curiously. Her tail swayed from side to side as she talked as she couldn't really sit still for long periods of time due to all the traveling she had done.

"Both, in a manner of speaking..."

Arannis sighed.

"I need to know something, Mahiria... can I trust you with what fate has forced onto me, in knowledge at least?"

Mahiria tilted her head to the side, a very dog like jesture, and leaned forward a little. When she realized she had leaned in towards Arannis she stood up straight and cleared her throat thought her curiousity shined clearly in her eyes.

"Sure." She said as she tried to seem a little less curious about what he was going to say than she actually felt. Her tail moved a little quicker behind her as she waited curiously for what he said next.

"To live perhaps a half a dozen lives simultaneously. Here, you see what could be said as a 'puppet-master', though I am not so manipulative. An overbeing, so to say, creating alternative... selves... and giving to them some slight will of their own, while still controlling, knowing them perfectly in multiple trials all at once. I know of hardly any worse fate."

"Hmm..." Mahiria listened and thought about what Arannis said. "Sounds like quite a bit to go through all at once. Though some people would see you blessed others see you as damned. By the way you put it you see yourself as damned?Am I correct to some extent?" she asked as she looked at the ground trying to imagine what it would be like to have to live dozens of lives all at once. "I am assuming that you don't die like mortals, yes? So this is an on-going chain of events." She waited patiently as she wanted to know more about this life he was forced into and maybe how it came to be or if it was a natural power that was given to him.

"In one sense, yes. You could say that I am indeed, seeing myself as damned. However, I also see the blessing in the ability to carry out - and to some extent, succeed in - my duties. To bring peace and life to those otherwise doomed to die... alone, brings me joy."

His gaze came downcast after saying this.

"What troubles me most, though, is that you are correct. I am indeed considered 'immortal'. Someday, I am sure, I will have to fight on, even though in all ways I would prefer to be slain."
