That's right.
I'm SUPER excited for it.
SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER excited!
Now.
The reason I'm here is because I'm looking for any tips, etc. about preparation for my tattoo.
Like, for example: I've heard people say before to eat lots of sugar before a tattoo to prevent passing out?

Is there anything else I should be aware of?
What can I expect before, after, during the process?

Thankyou
:3

Eating sugar is good, if you read the other topic you posted, I posted about how I almost passed out during mine. You don't need to eat a lot, but have some. I like to bring a bottle of orange juice with me and a few hard candies in my purse. I don't have any other tips really for before hand. Make sure you're wearing something that will go with the placing of your tattoo. For my shoulder tattoo and my rib tattoo I wore tank tops, the one on my arm I wore a t-shirt.

Prehaps bring a second copy of your artwork? I know I usually do, but my artist is a bit of a pot head with ADD, so she can be a bit clueless and usually ends up losing my art work and drawing it up when I get there, but she is amazing so even when she loses it and has to draw it up quickly its always amazing.

Tips for during, when it gets really painfull I find zoning out is the best thing for the pain. At my artist's shop the walls are all cluttered with lots of different art and photographs and nic nacs. So I find one thing on the wall to focus on and just focus all my energy on that while practicing breathing exercises. I also like to bring a friend so I have someone's hand to squeeze. Bring some music if you like to help relax you. My artist has no problem with people bringing their ipod to plug in and play. My ipod is broken but last time I saw her she let my boyfriend play DJ on her ipod the whole time.

After I usually just wanna smoke a joint or have a drink!

Have fun! The first tattoo is such an exciting experience, I'm hoping to get my 4th soon, so stoked.

What are you getting?

I recommend eating some kind of hearty protein before you go, like a chicken sandwich or even a peanut butter sandwich. Protein does more for your stamina than sugar does, so eat a good healthy meal before you go.

I also recommend bringing orange juice or even Gatorade or Powerade with you. If you start to get light headed, the electrolytes in there will help balance you out.

Also, I agree with the wear appropriate clothing. If you're getting an ankle tattoo, wear shorts/short pants and flipflops. Don't wear your high top Chucks when they're going to go up over your ankle tattoo, that kinda thing.

If it gets painful DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH!!! You will pass out this way. Take long slow breaths in and out. I usually count 4 heartbeats breathing in and 4 heartbeats breathing out. When you are done, stand up slowly, stretch as and if you can, and take it easy. Don't go bounding out of the chair toward the mirror, you can easily pass out this way as well.

Your tattoo artist should tell you all the after care instructions, but if you have any questions, you know what to do. ^_^

Best of luck!

I'm really sorry about being such a noob about this and it makes me feel so embarrassed, but
how can you tell you're about to pass out, what are the symptoms?

I'm having my tattoo done on my thigh, the piece is about 7 in long and 5 in wide, so it is considerably large.

I also find breathing exercises to be helpful. When I have anxiety attacks, someone taught me the trick of breathing in slow as possible, breathing out slow as possible, repeat.

I booked my consultation appt today, and it gave me butterflies but at the same time I got so nervous that I started feeling neauseated =/

Also, I'll send you a photo of it via PM. I don't share my art here for fear of having it stolen.

My mom, for some reason, always tells me to eat carbs ( pasta ) after I have a piercing done ( I have 16 piercings xP )

So....
would carbs help me at all? and maybe like, a protein bar?

one more thing: if i start feeling lightheaded, should i ask to take a break so that I can drink my gatorade?

I'm having it done on my hip/thigh area, so I'll bring loose sweats.

Well I just started to feel really light headed and dizzy, then I started having trouble keeping my head up, and my face went pale.

Yeah I have anxiety as well which is what I normally do my breathing exercises for. Slow deep inhale through the nose, slow deep exhale through the mouth.

And for a thigh tatto I'd wear a skirt or a dress. If you really don't want to wear a skirt or dress, loose sweat pants.

You will know when you're about to pass out. For me, I get REALLY nauseous, hot in the face and cold everywhere else, almost like it's wooshing up and down my body. I start shaking and get really really pale.

If you need a break, do not ever hesitate to ask. Most tattooists will break frequently anyway, but if you need one right away, ask RIGHT AWAY.

Carbs will help you to. Any hearty, solid, healthy food will help you more than just sugar will. I usually eat a decent meal before I get tattooed, then just down the street from my tattoo artist is my FAVORITE pho shop (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) and I always go there when I'm done. So eat something before and at least a little something after.

Eat more than just a protein bar before you go. Bring one with you if you start feeling faint, though. You can always stop by on your way out and pick up a fast food meal as well, that's what I usually do. It's good solid food and will sustain you through the tattoo.

Thanks for everything, you've been so helpful
(:

Also, that sounds like a terrible experience, the almost passing out feeling I mean.
I'll be sure to eat well and stay hydrated. Is that the best way to prevent passing out?

Yup. And breathe. NEVER FORGET TO BREATHE! People seem to forget all the time and not only does that make the pain worse, it makes you more likely to get light headed, which leads to passing out.

Since it is going to be my first tattoo I can't really tell how I'm going to react, but I will make sure I eat well and pay attention to my breathing (:

October 9th can't come soon enough.
That's my appointment day.

My boyfriend says that I'll be tired after my tattoo.
It's fairly large: a foot long, seven inches wide.

He says it'll feel like I ran a mile afterwards, haha.

Why does tattoos and piercings run the risk of passing out?
