Cloud Clan Territory---->
An area of high ledges and cliffs where eagles and other prey roam. Slippery, rocky slopes are often treacherous to untrained apprentices. .
Prey: Birds, occasionally mice or vole, small rabbits.

Pebblestar bouded out of camp, heading towards the lower grounds. Secretly, she was pleased that her apprentice had decided to come this way. She planned to take the short, safe, yet prey-less route to the bottom. She wanted to try a new technique - work from the bottom to the top. The closer to the bottom, the more abundant the prey was. She ran down the steep path, the only known path without any sudden holes or cracks. No plants grew here - it was completely bushless. Soon, she felt tough, springy grass touch her paws. Far off, near the CloudClan and ForestClan border, there was a tree, which marked the border between the two. Not too far in the distance, however, there was a stunted shrub, and an idea came to her mind. "Lightpaw!" she called. "Lightpaw, I have to show you something!"

Lightpaw's eyes widdened slightly and he scrambled down the path after his leader. Despite only having a few experiences outside of camp, the young apprentice moved down the path with the grace of a warrior even if he didn't notice it. There was promise in the young cat. "Are we climbing trees?" He asked circling the tree that marked the border of their territory wondering what his mentor was going to show him exactly.
Rockpath made her way down a steeper trail opposite the one Pebblestar had taken with Lightpaw. The trail had many bends and boulders to navigate but she'd taken it enough times she could navigate the trail in the dark. Still the mountain was always changing so every step was a cautious one. As she reached the bottom Rockpath turned to Iceflower. "We'll renew the scent markers here and make sure everythings alright then go join Pebblestar if she's still near the Forest Clan border."

Pebblestar sighed. "No, Lightpaw! Come here!" she cried. "Come back to the mountain! Then, follow my instructions exactly. I want you to catch a vole!"

Iceflower hastened to follow the deputy. With her ears pricked, she ran downhill, trying to catch up. "Wait up!" she yowled. Finally she managed to fall in step with Rockpath. "So we're going where again?" Iceflower constantly asked questions repeatedly as her memory was not the best. Most cats didn't appreciate it, but she was used to the eye rolls and the exasperated sighs.

Rockpath slowed down to let Iceflower catch up. "We're going to renew the scent markers on the Dark Clan border and the loop around to the Forest Clan border to meet Pebblestar and Lightpaw if they are still in the area by then." She leaped down from the ledge marking the end of the trail and landed on the ground. A line of sparse trees and grass marked the edge of Cloud Clan territory. Rockpath padded over and checked the markers then stopped for a moment to scent the air. "I don't smell anything unusual. There's a fox scent on the other side of the border but it's stale. I don't think we will be bothered by it. They usually don't even come this far."
Lightpaw bounded over to his mentor and then padded into the thicker parts of the sparse grass. He paused for a moment to catch the scent of a vole. There was a stale scent from prey caught earlier that moon. He had to travel a few fox-lengths before he caught the scent of a live vole. Crouching down he crept up on a vole sitting beneath a low ledge. Before he could get close enough, Lightpaw stepped on a sharp pebble. He hissed and the sound alerted the vole. "I don't think so!" He yowled and darted after the vole who tried to escape back into a crack in the ledge. Lightpaw's paw slammed down on the vole's tail not a second too late. He killed it and padded back to Pebblestar with the vole.

Lightpaw shrugged and dig as big a hole he could in the sandy ground and dropped the vole in. After he made sure it was covered he looked around and spotted a flat piece of stone small enough for him to move so he nudged it over the buried vole as well. "I think I can move that later. Now what do we do?"

Pebblestar purred. "Well," she meowed, "how about-" she suddenly froze. A huge eagle, a scar across his stomach, was heading towards a rabbit. Not an eagle, the eagle. Hot rage ran through Pebblestar. She sprinted towards the rabbit, determined to steal the prey. She wasn't faster than the eagle - but she was closer the rabbit. Her teeth snapped its neck easily. "You have eaten enough!" she yowled. To her horror, as she looked up, the eagle, with talons outstretched, was now coming towards her.

"Okay." Iceflower meowed. She padded over to a tree on the border that had a stale CloudClan scent on it and sprayed a scent marker on it. "Now, let's go meet Pebblestar and Lightpaw." Without waiting for a reply from Rockpath, Iceflower bounded down the worn trail to the ForestClan border.

Lightpaw let out a squeak of alarm and darted under the ledge where he had just caught his vole and crouched there eyes wide and frightened.
"Iceflower you have to stay with your patrol remember!" Rockpath called after the warrior and raced after her. She would have told the young warrior about the dangers of leaving her patrol before a sound around the trail bend caught her ear. It was the sound of an eagle before it makes a kill. Rockpath darted in front of the she-cat and paused taking in the scene below where Lightpaw sat crouched beneath a ledge hiding from the eagle as it dived at Pebblestar. "Make sure Lightpaw's okay!" She yowled and bunched her strong legs under her. As the eagle dived for Pebblestar Rockpath took a might leap off the cliff on onto the large bird. Both cat and preditor fell to the sandy ground and the impact caused her to let go of the eagle. It flew away in a great haste and Rockpath, caughing, sat up to shake the sand out of her fur. "Mouse-dung! I let it go.Are you alright Pebblestar?"

"I'm fine," she growled, "but so is that eagle! If anyone sees it again... they have orders to kill it. At all costs, that thing must be killed! It must die!"

Rockpath nodded. "If it weren't so dangerous to scale the cliffs and find where it nests I would suggest sending a patrol after it. We'll have to wait for another chance on lower ground." The dark brown she cat kneaded the sandy earth under her paws. "I think it would be best if we finished the border patrol and go back to camp together."

"Yes, I suppose," she meowed. Then she turned to Lightpaw. "Lightpaw, do you know the basics of catching prey on the ground? Have you caught a rabbit before? I just saw you catch a vole... I don't think I've taught you how to catch a rabbit."

Iceflower stood stock still, still in shock from the events that had just occured. "Wow." she breathed. "Rockpath, that was so brave! If you hadn't stopped the eagle we all would've been crowfood!" The silver she-cat went on. "I'll remember to keep with a patrol from now on. These paths are more dangerous than ever now that we know the eagle is near!"
