Yes, I know we currently have a roleplay in the guild, but I was thinking about a more spread-out roleplay outside of the guild, and as an alternate-universe to Homestuck where the kids are not the only ones that get their hands on SBURB-- instead, SBURB is distributed across the whole world and is more akin to an MMO than a game with a couple of people inside it.
Think about it this way: what if SBURB got a huge amount of advertisements pre-release and when it went out to the public a good percentage of the population of Earth bought the game, thus bringing about a huge amount of players instead of just 4 or 12.
In this instance of SBURB, the Incisisphere is humongous, and there are a couple of hundred worlds based on each player. Obviously the prototyping of the Kernelsprites throughout all of the players makes the black king and queen much larger and powerful, but then, there are probably a couple of hundred players that will fight against them, so the odds are somewhat even.
To make things even -more- interesting, there are some kernelsprites that have gotten corrupted, and are telling the players that in order to win the game they must defeat the forces of good (i.e., work with the agents and Derse).
Somewhere in the inmense chain of players, there are two double-agents, posing to be working for Derse or Prospit, depending on who their server is rooting for, and vice-versa, so that there is no conflict between the server and the player when the link eventually reaches those working for Derse and those working for Prospit.
I've only given this some superficial thinking, but that's the overall the overall concept behind it. I want to make the RP in the Series-based Role Play section of the Barton Town GaiaOnline thing. I'd be making a lot of logos and some graphics for the first page, and a lot would be explained to newcomers.
The point of the Role Play is to allow some people that have not seen or heard of Homestuck get interested on it, and subsequently read it, and to have an awesome Role Play based on that universe. Whether by the start of the Role Play we decide to start out with user-based planets or not, or how much is revealed in the beginning is something I'm open to discuss.
So I want you guys' suggestions and ideas for the Role Play. Is it a good idea? Is it a bad idea? How many people should we allow in? How much of the story is revealed in the beginning of the Role Play?
All these thoughts and more are in our hands to mold or discard.

First thing I have to say, there was mass advertising, for SBURB, it had it's own section in GameBRO even the kids were just the only ones who mattered, so they made it into the medium.
ANYWHO! This sounds awesome! I would only suggest that you set it up so that acts more of a "New game +" sort of thing, so there is a player reset, so like their memory is wiped, but their levels are not or something. But the creation of a new universe doesn't hinge on how well they play the game, so the game ramps the difficulty and introduces new challenges, such as the corrupted sprites, and scratches being more common.

Vriska Serket First thing I have to say, there was mass advertising, for SBURB, it had it's own section in GameBRO even the kids were just the only ones who mattered, so they made it into the medium. Well, yeah, I thought about that too; but like you said, since the 4 kids were the only ones that mattered, they were the only ones that ended up actually playing the game. In this one there are way more many youngsters, adults, and all kinds of players that managed to make it into the Medium before their respective meteors struck. Vriska Serket ANYWHO! Well, that would explain the corrupted sprites-- even though I was planning on something different already. However, my only problem with the "New game +" sort of thing is that it would add more difficulty and possibly more stuff to it to an already dizzying amount of complexity SBURB has on it's own. Consider this: to someone who is completely new to the series that decides to Role Play in the forum, Alchemiters, Captchalogues, Kernelsprites, Skaia and other such concepts are completely alien to them. We'd have to explain whatever is going on in SBURB/Homestuck in the first page at a dazzling speed compared to how much preparation and getting accustomed to these concepts someone who had the time to read the series had. Depending at which level we want the players to start at (I was thinking maybe just after going through gate 1? maybe slightly earlier?) we will have to introduce a lot of material on a single stroke. Doubts and personal interpretations will arise and we'll have to deal with them. FAQ is pretty much mandatory as is. I suppose we could provide an alternate version of SBURB, or something of the sort. We could very well make a Role Play inspired instead of based on Homestuck, to perhaps simplify some aspects of the game; but again, my problem with the 'New game +' thing is the added difficulty and complexity it might bring up. To further elaborate why the corrupted Kernelsprites even exist, I wanted the RP to have two groups of players: a group that are fighting against the black king and a group that are fighting in favor of the black king. How that turns out or why is something that we can discuss. This is the main reason I decided to go with the corrupted Kernelsprites, since it would make sense for the players to listen to their respective Kernelsprites and thus fight for Derse or Prospit; but that's not to say we can't change that. Another thought I've been playing around with in my head: the players from this game might not even be from Earth. They could be from the resulting universe the 4 kids make after beating SBURB. What kind of universe that is is up to us to decide, though I was thinking it'd be alike our ancient myths and legends. So people could be from different races: humans, elves, etc... All playing SBURB when their planet reached their epitome of technology. But again, that might also complicate things, so...

the players could also choose which side they're on, too, despite whether their sprite is corrupted or not. Would it's prototyping have an effect on whether it's corrupted or not? one prototyped with a toy dalek would actually try to kill you figureine of the wicked witch of the west would be corrupted while one with a toy of the Doctor would be good.
what if all the players weren't even all on the same planet? the Trolls had interstellar travel, so why not have a more peaceful species have the same trait? alien species similar to our supernatural, but with our own twists. there could be 1-3 players from each world, and the players come up with characteristics of the species culture.

OtisolYnohtna Well who said the kids were the only ones that made in into the game? Maybe some more people made it and just weren't in their session. Is there an easier way you can explain this roleplay to me? I'm not getting it... 1. Well, that first question you made is pretty much answered by the troll's session. In the troll's session of SGRUB, all 12 trolls thought they were originally playing in separate sessions: blue team one session, and red team another session. All they had to do was tie their chains together separately; but from the moment they began playing they had all entered the session Karkat was playing, so that would not have helped them at all (apparently). So the rule is: there cannot be a player that is not a server, and there cannot be a server that is not a player. Once a player enters a game session, all other players thereafter enter that same session as well. The player needs the server to put up the SBURB Constructs (most importantly the Alchemiter and the Cruxtruder, to be able to escape the doomed planet). The server needs to escape the doomed planet by playing the game to be able to enter the Medium, which is presumably safer. And for some yet to be explained reason individual, separate prototyping chains cannot be made within a single server, and thus far there is evidence that supports only one session is available per universe. This is probably to prevent loopholes, I assume. In conclusion, if any other players DID get SBURB and DID start to play it, then they probably died. However, we could very well base the RP on that premise and to hell with the actual way it works; or in some way use two separate prototyping chains within the same game... I dunno, it's an interesting thought. We don't have to adhere by Homestuck's laws, you know... but it'd be better for the sake of continuity and all those reading the series to familiarize themselves with the Role Play. 2. As for explaining the Role Play...First of all, I don't have it all ready, so there's that. I made this thread to be kind of a brainstorming for the plot of the Role Play and how it's going to work. I'm not the sole creator of the Role Play. You guys are as well, since you're all contributing by giving out ideas. All I have is a premise, which is what you've read up to this point. Second, the Role Play will be (tentatively) made on the Series-related/Miscellanious RP section of Barton Town Role Play. I might put it up on the main section, but I dunno if it'll get moved anyways or not... Third, because it will be played in an entirely public forum, people that do not necessarily know anything about Homestuck or MSPA might want to join, and I will gladly let them. In fact, that's kind of the point! But in order to do that (again depending on where we want to start the RP in relation to progress within SBURB), we have to set down all the ground rules of SBURB and make it clear to them how it works: the Kernelsprites, the Guardians (or whatever else we use), the Exiles, the Medium, Skaia, Derse, Prospit, etc... Otherwise we'll have people going 'LAWL, I TELEPORT TO DERSE AND KILL THE BLACK QUEEN' or 'I DESTROY MY PLANET'S DENIZEN WITH MY BARE FISTS AS A BOYSKYLARK'. Fourth, players of the Role Play are going to want to interact with each others' characters. And not just through teamwork, but also against each other. How are players of the RP going to fight each other if they're all on the same team (i.e the kids/the players/the trolls)? This is the main reason I thought up that there'd be players working for Derse and other players working for Prospit, and that somewhere in the prototyping chain, there'd be double agents with ulterior motives. Unless we want to make it so that players of the Role Play can have Dersite characters (which is not that bad of an idea), we're kind of stuck with players having to be SBURB players with differing ideals. Not to mention that it makes the Role Play more interesting and different from the standard SBURB game (in quantity of players, and with the unique touch that there are players on different sides, etc). That's pretty much all there is to explaining it. Hope you got it this time around. >.> Beenix376 the players could also choose which side they're on, too, despite whether their sprite is corrupted or not. 1. The reason why I came up with the corrupted Kernelsprites......is because Kernelsprites, thus far, are the ones to show the player how the game is played in the first place. Considering SBURB is completely alien to it's players when they begin playing it, they would have no reason to go against the Kernelsprite's advice. This new potentially hostile game they're introduced to is enough to kill them if they don't play it right (as they will have learned because of their impending doom at the beginning of the game). Why they would go against the advice of their Kernelsprite is beyond me. There would have to be some outside source telling them to stop the players in Prospit's defense. If not corrupted Kernelsprites, then something else, but I think someone would have to orient them towards that completely opposite goal in the first place. 2. About other races and whatnot. It sounds alright, I guess... I just hope that doesn't bring any unnecessary complications. Not to mention, these guys will start with way more advanced technology than the kids did... then again, the trolls are in a more advanced... ...bah, screw it, good idea. ... ... @Vriska:
Ok thanks. xD!

whoops, should have thought through that sweatdrop although, the rest of the first paragraph is of course a suggestion.
a players exile might be able to persuade them against their sprite, depending on how easy it is to manipulate the player.

Hm. That's an idea. It's worth wondering how the Kernelsprite would react to the player if the player starts working in favor of Derse... Are sprites completely neutral? Only giving out advice to advance in the game, not out of their own volition and their own goals? Would Kernelsprites fight their players if they went against their advice? Hmm... I think I've got some questions to ask Andrew in Formspring now. xD

An idea has occurred to me. What if this is a game that is played across all universes, to make a completely different set of universes?
Trolls, humans, and other beings from other universes could then play it at the same time. It could be a corrupted version of SBURB that went and connected it's session throughout different dimensions.
Could have a different name, too. Like, STARB, or something, to represent it's grander scale.
