One green eye opened, peering out over the plains. The land around her was never empty, and the sight of a small herd of zebra made her stomach growl. Finally the other eye, red, opened, fixing hungrily on the striped zebras. But, no, she was not in the mood to get up and chase something down. Besides, she was too small for that, and she'd much rather steal a meal from someone else than chase it down. A cheetah would more readily give up its meal than face a bulky hyena and the possibility of facing the entire clan. Life was simple when you had a bad reputation, and hyenas did have that.
Kira's poweful jaws opened up in a yawn, and the multi-colored hyena stood up, stretching out her limbs. Lazily she padded over to the other side of the large rock, curling up there where the sun could not hit her. The days were hot, and she preferred to be sheltered by a rock than deal with the heat.
Kira was a young hyena, though no longer small enough to be considered a cub. She wished herself to grow faster, because she was proving to be smaller in size than some of her siblings, and that was disturbing. More petite than muscular, was what you could call her, though by many other standards, she was definately not petite, nor small. Maybe she hadn't fed well enough... and for some reason her stomach seemed to agree with that. So, if she fed more... that meant she'd become bigger, and that meant she'd have a better opportunity on picking on people. Perfect.

Kain was likewise snoozing next to a boulder. As far as he was concerned, the day was perfect. A little on the hot sise, perhaps, but that was all right. He yawned, stretching out a little bit more. Perfect. The absence of aggravating cubs had put him in a wonderful mood, and the barren ground seemed almost luxurious. Kain loved young hyenas, but all the same he was glad to catch a break from him. He hadn't seen his older cubs in a while, and was slightly worried about them. But they were capable. Probably wandering around together, making trouble.
The squire sighed contentedly, basking in the heat. His fur was light-colored and the heat didn't bother him quite as much as it did some hyenas. It was dirty as well. Kain opened one eye, gazing at his dusty paws. He should take a bath, but he didn't particularly want to get a mouthful of grit. Maybe later on he would go splash around in the Imara water hole. It wasn't too far.

Dust hovered in the air as a large adolescent hyena rolled about on the ground. Loud cackles emitting from her throat as she fliped back onto her stomach. Black and white tail swaying slowly behind her as the sun attempted to glimmer upon her, now extremly dusty pelt. Her tongue loped out the side of her maw as she panted hevily.
Though her fur was caked with dirt she could still feel the heat upon her rump and head. Pushing herself up she gave herself a shake, bits of dirt and dust plummeting from her fur revealing an array of black and white upon her pelt and not just brown.
Blinking her golden yellow eyes she took a good look at what was around her. Nothing. Just golden grass and a few larger animals in the distance. Letting out a grunt she lowered her snout to the ground, pushing her nose up against the earth. Perhaps she'd go bother her father or perhaps her siblings.

Something caught Kira's eyes, and it was probably not for the better for that something. More to the truth of things, it was someone, and someone she knew quite well. Oh, wouldn't he be in for a nice surprise. Kira was sure that he'd love to see her again.
With an almost happy look upon her face the hyena once again stood up, stretching out her limbs lazily before beginning her trek to her father, Kain. The hyena was oddly all about stealth, and Kira used the giant rock that her father was using to shield himself from the sun to shield her from his vision. Quietly she slunk forward, knowing that her father was just on the opposite side of the rock, and nearly jumping with joy at the possibility of tackling him and conquering the male. Kira, by now, had made it to the rock, and she lied down in simple puzzlement.
What to do now?
Her lips seemed to curl into a smile as an idea hit her. The hyena sat up, backing away slightly so she could gain the speed she needed to leap into the air. With a playful growl she made herself known, jumping up on the top of the rock. "Hello, Old Man!" She chirped happily, before dropping down from the rock to descend upon him.

Kain's initial groan at his daughter's approach became a FWUFF! of air as she landed on him. Rolling to one side to escape her, Kain opened one baleful eye to squint at the mischievious young hyena. She might be somewhat smaller than the others her age, but she was heavy. "I may be an 'Old Man', but you're still just a cub," he said in an aggrieved voice, slowly getting to his paws. It was nice to see Kira, but the older hyena had been enjoying his sunny nap. Too late now. Biting back another sigh, Kain shook the dust out of his pelt and looked around.
A dust devil seemed to be rolling about not far from where Kain stood. As he watched, the dervish ceased its undignified laughter and got to its paws. Zindzhi! Kain glanced at the adolescent female by his side. It was just as well that Kira had woken him. If he had spent much longer asleep, the two would likely have pounced him together.

Zindzhi's golden yellow eyes watched as up ahead one hyena was pounced on by another. Upon closer look she learned that it was her father and one of her siblings. Just some of the ones she was looking for! What luck.
Retracting her tongue back into her mouth the young hyena quickly padded forward, keeping herself low to the ground though she had probably already been seen. As quick as she could the female sprung up infront of the two "Hello!" she shouted, her voice quite excited.

Kira was more than proud when she succeeded in landing on her father and waking him up from his peaceful nap. Well, there was no time for peace. Now was the time for fun, and games, and her father would simply have to entertain her, because that was what Kira demanded. "I'm no longer a cub!" She declared, pawing at the ground in anxiety. She looked ready to tackle him again if he dared to call her a cub again. "I'm almost an adult, therefore I am an adolescent, which, need I remind you, is not a cub, Old Man." The nickname seemed to be a simple way to show her affection of her father, which may not be much, but it was a whole lot more than her affection for any of others from different clans.
Someone else had decided to join in on her fun, and this was her little sibling that would become a perfect partner in her attack of her father. "Hello, Zindzhi, I was getting reaquainted with our father. Would you like to join me?" This reaquaintance certainly wasn't a gentle one. In fact, it was more along the lines of shoving her father around and taking advantage of him.

He might have been just a 'lowly male', so to speak, but Kain was well-versed in the ways of cubs. Kira and Zindzhi might think of themselves as almost-adults, but to Kain they were still cubs, albeit big and extra obnoxious ones. Rolling his eyes, Kain yipped a greeting to Zindzhi and sat back on his haunches. Reacquainted, indeed. It seemed like his nap was over for good.
Kain probably could have retreated to the safety of some other adult hyenas, but he was resigned to his fate. With such determined younglings around, being slowly annoyed to death was unavoidable. The squire waited patiently to see what new form of aggravation his daughters had in store for him.

The corners of the female's maw curved upwards. "Getting reaquainted with father?" she repeated, glancing from her sister to her father. She could tell what was instore, after all their father was a squire and as such they were permitted to pick on him...Though even if he had been an imaginary rank that was the highest of the high, picking on him would still probably be on the agenda. He was their father after all. Dipping her maw in a nod she spoke once more "I am honored thee would ask mineself to assist...And I gladly accept." Perhaps she was being to polite in her response to her sister, but she quickly shook off such a thought.
With a swish of her white streeked tail the female took a seat next to her sibling. "What doth thou have in mind dear sister?" she questioned, golden eyes attempting to peer into Kira's mind.
