How does the story of the order go?
Regarding video game sequels, the recent game release back tracks. Here is the order of the story in timeline text version.
1. Birth by Sleep: Ten years before Sora was chosen to be the Keyblade Master. Long ago before this story took place, there was a Keyblade War when Keyblade Weilders spent their whole life and their living trying to get a hold of the ultimate Keyblade, the X-Blade. (X-Blade has the same pronounciation as Keyblade.) Our heroes have fought a tough battle to prevent Xehanort, the root of all evil to have his way.
Ven's heart is alseep but merged himself with Sora, Terra and Xehanort fight over Terra's body in which Xehanort wants to possess, and Aqua sacrificed herself to save Terra's light by being trapped in the dark realm.
2. Kingdom Hearts I: For nine years, the worlds had been sunk into darkness if not all of them, these beings with no Hearts called the Heartless are darkness made real, who steal hearts, and corrupt worlds with their darkness. A hero had been chosen to weild a Keyblade, and that boy was named Sora. Sora who lost his home, now has to find his friends when he finds himself in foriegn world called Traverse Town. He meets Donald and Goofy who are searching for their King and is out on a mission to find the Key that can be vital to survival.
Sora and company had traveled to many worlds to learn that the one who is sabotaging worlds in order to dominate all with darkness is Maleficent. However, at Hollow Bastion, Maleficent was defeated, and the greater evil that possessed Riku is Ansem the strongest Heartless of them all. He wants to sink everything into darkness, but Sora and friends do everything they can to stop him at The End of The World. Even if Sora defeats Ansem, and restore the worlds to what they once were, Sora is likely to never see his friends again.
At Kingdom Hearts, when Sora tries to close the door to darkness when Riku and the King stayed behind the door to seal it, but before they are out of sight, the King said "There will always be a door to light."
Sora decides not go home when he had the chance and continues his journey with Donald and Goofy.
3. Chain of Memories: Sora, Donald, and Goofy had continued their journey by either finding the door to light and for both Riku and the King, whichever they come across first. Later that evening, they meet a mysterious entity, he beckons Sora to come find what he lost. Sora and friends are in a strange place called Castle Oblivion. A place where the instant you set foot into the castle, you lose bits of your memories. The challenge Sora has to face is that to find is to lose and to lose is to find. Sora accepts the challenge Axel had to offer by finding the truth on his own. Each floor is a recreation of a world created from his memory, and the laws of the castle requires him to use cards to take action in just about everything he does.
Along the way, they keep losing memories, Sora thinking that the one he cares for is Namine, what turns out is Marluxia's scheme to gain Sora's power to overthrow the leader of the Organization. After Sora finds Namine, she explains everything that is going on. The only way Sora and his friends can gain their memory back is to defeat Marluxia that is enslaving Namine.
As soon as they make it to the 13th floor, Sora confronts Marluxia to fight for Namine's freedom. Marluxia is defeated, faded into darkness. Namine makes amends by undoing what she has done to everyone, by making them sleep in large capsules while she undo and reconnect the Chain of Memories. She guarantess it will work.
3 1/2. Reverse/Rebirth: Riku had awoken in the bottom floor of Castle Oblivion. A voice calls out to him that he has a choice to stay where he is, or face the darkness so he can embrace it. Riku takes his chances and starts at the 12th basment floor of Castle Oblivion. A voice reminds him what he threw away, and what he could accomplish if he didn't reject the darkness. He comes across the presence of Ansem, the hooded men, and his fake self as he fights and rebels against the darkness only to learn that the darkness can share the same world as the light. King Mickey had assisted him every other step of the way. Finally, he meets Namine who is tending to restore Sora's memories, and she gives Riku a choice to either lock Ansem in his heart, forgotten in his memories or fight him head on. Riku puts himself at risk when he decides to settle the score with Ansem. He eventually defeats him. When Riku and the King had gotten out of there, the King learned that the darkness isn't made of evil. So he journeys with Riku on wherever the road takes him.
4. 358/2 Days: When a person with a strong heart turns into a Heartless, they leave a empty shell that takes form, it is called a Nobody, a being form that has no business existing. Sora had turned into a Heartless not too long ago, creating a nobody that nearly resembles to Ventus, which looks so much like Sora, and as soon as he was found by Xenmas, the leader of the Organization who controls the lesser Nobodies, and they have an ultimate goal to accomplish, the creation of Kingdom Hearts. Xenmas has given the Keyblade weilding Nobody his nobody name, its Roxas. After a week of joining, Xenmas introduces another member worthy of wearing the coat, # XIV: Xion. Overtime, Axel has looked after Roxas for a while until he and the ohter half of the organization have been assigned to do research at Castle Oblivion under Marluxia's command. Axel was assigned to eliminate any possible traitors as he go about his duty.
For weeks after Roxas befriended Xion, they began to have ice cream together like Axel treats Roxas to ice cream. Later as Roxas does his duties, he keeps seeing glimpse of someone's memory of a boy weilding a Keyblade, not only that, Roxas and Xion keep having their ups and downs with their strength and the ability to use a Keyblade. The purpose of those two of doing missions to eliminate Heartless that are of emblem type is to collect hearts in order to create Kingdom Hearts.
Nearly a year had passed and Roxas was getting weaker, Xion is rebelling, fleeing, and taken under Riku's wing. Xion is not exactly a Nobody, she is a puppet, never meant to be, just an object. She was created from memories of Sora's feelings for Kairi. Xion made the ultimate choice to banish herself, she cannot be easily destroyed because she is loaded with too much power that she is going to overflow.
Roxas however betrayed the Organization when he Axel won't tell him about who he is, and what has become of Xion. Roxas finds himself on top of the station tower in Twilight Town, where he is forced into engaging a battle with Xion. Roxas defeats Xion, but Xion's demise as well as her memories in people's minds has begun to disappear. Xion's last words were to free Kingdom Hearts and do not let Xenmas have his way.
Roxas races back to The World That Never Was to set Kingdom Hearts free and to find his identity instead of being "a part of Sora." He encounters Riku who he fights against since he wants to stop Roxas in his tracks so he can go back to Sora. Riku was not able to defeat him at first, so he sacrifices his old identity and takes form of Ansem when he uses his maximum dark power to defeat Roxas.
Roxas now lives in a temporary reality for the time being until Namine restores Sora's memories.
5. Kingdom Hearts II: While Diz and Namine work on restoring Sora, Roxas is still living in a fake reality. The Organization is desperate to get Roxas back since he holds the power to collect hearts, so Diz protects him anyway he can so he can still hold the key to awaken Sora. After the 5th day of Roxas living in a fake reality, it is time for Roxas to find himself. He is in denial that he is himself and not Sora's other half when he confronts Diz in the chamber room in the mansion of the alternate Twilight Town. As soon as the chamber opens, Roxas begins to fade away, and Sora awakens to find Donald, Goofy, and Jimminy. They hardly have the most recent memory and they feel like they missed out alot. When Sora and company encountered some new friends who told them a short guy with round ears is looking for them. The King has business with them.
They eventually meet the King after fighting an alarming number of the Nobodies, the King told them to take the mysterious train to a unknown destination called the Mysterious Tower. There they meet Yen Sid who tells them about the dangers of right now about the Heartless, the Nobodies, and the greater Nobodies, Organization XIII. After supplying Sora and company with whatever they need, Sora must travel from world to world, protecting the world order and when it is time for him to go, its when a key hole shines in the sky an Sora uses his Keyblade to open a new path.
Axel on the other hand is doing whatever he can to turn Sora into a Heartless, so he can have his best friend back. The Organization eventually make their move into Hollow Bastion when the Heartless are out of control, Sora learns what the Organization are up to and loses his fighting spirit. When he finds himself in darkness, a mysterious entity gave him a box which contained a photo of Hayner, Pence, Olette, and Roxas who isn't supposed to be in the picture, so its technically clues that will help him out later.
After the major crisis, Sora has to visit most of the other worlds again which has a serious Heartless threat. Everytime Sora saves a world, the readings on the Gummi Ship radar picks up a signal which gets stronger and stronger along the way.
Eventually, Sora returns to Twilight Town in desperation to rescue Kairi and defeat the Organization. He finds a path based on the clues and the help of his new friends of Twilight Town, he manages to find The World That Never Was.
Sora, Donald, and Goofy fought their way through the dark city, and into the Organization stronghold, the Castle That Never Was. Fighting Nobodies, and remaining Organization members, the King meets Diz again and he reveals himself to be Ansem the Wise. His purpose for being there is to get revenge and use his contraption to get data of Kingdom Hearts while Xenmas and Ansem argue about knowing and not knowing about the heart. Eventually Sora is reunited with his closest friends, Kingdom Hearts is at the rate of being destroyed thanks to Ansems device, and Riku returns to normal, no longer taking the form of Ansem the Heartless.
All our heroes have made it to the roof to confront Xenmas, and after the struggle when Namine created a passageway that leads out of there, Sora and Riku are left behind to fight Xenmas and put an end to him.
The epic battle raged out and in the end, our two heroes of light and dark triumph. Both of them had struggled for some time to get out of the realm of darkness and just staying put by the ocean. Eventually, a light portal draws them back home.
5 1/2. Blank Point: Aqua finds herself wandering in the darkness for too long. She speaks to a unknown man who knows what is going on outside of the realm of darkness. Aqua wondered if it was Terra or Ventus? The man replied "No." Aqua had asked for the boy's name, who is saving the worlds out there? "Sora."
Not long after the battle, Kairi delivers a letter in a bottle to Sora and its a message from Mickey based on the seal. He reads it. After a while, he had been thinking of what to do?
Riku had asked if he had made up his mind. Sora thought about it, and said he is going to be away for a while. Kairi comes by and lends him her lucky charm again.
This is a mark of a new adventure to come.
