It's mentioned in almost every episode. Neal Does Not Like Guns. He doesn't like them, yet he knows his way around any gun he comes across. From the first episode it is stated right upfront that Neal doesn't like guns. And it continues to be brought up, the question of why has been bugging me since the pilot. Its the only question that they have yet to answer for me that I really need to know the answer too. I think it has been drug out long enough and needs to be resolved. Just give us the answer already Jeff Easton! I personally have no theory for his dislike of guns, but I was wanting to know everyone else's opinion on why you think he doesn't like them.

I have several theories is to why Neal hates guns all either came from myself or from reading fanfictions. - Neal witnessed gun violence as a child. This means he saw someone get shot and that someone most likely died. - Neal had at one point been shot himself, a logically reason. - Neal doesn't like guns simple for how inelegant it is. There is, in Neal's vision and I agree, no elegance in a gun. Anyone could use it and therefore anyone could kill with it. This could frighten Neal because if someone has a gun pointed at him, Neal knows he could die. Everyone is afraid of dying Neal is no exception and apparently he is also claustrophobic, I heard that from someone who said it was from an episode I forget which one though.

I have to agree with the last theory. The other ones seam too cliche to me. I dont much care for cliches.
&& I'm pretty sure Neal isn't claustrophobic. You are refering to the Episode "By The Book" in which Mozzie didn't want anyone on the elevator and told the people that Neal was claustrophobic. I doubt he actually is though. I could be wrong, be there was no other mention if it prior or after that one scene.

Or he could be claustrophobic and the settings haven't been right to set off his claustrophobia. But then again he's used to climbing through air vents so Mozzie could be lying.

But the reason that Neal has a gun is to shoot Fowler. Yet he doesn't because HE IS NOT A KILLER OR THE KILLING TYPE. This is my theory: he wants to shoot but he's too scared of what Peter would say. Any questions?

The main reason I doubt he is consists of the fact that he was in a rather small prison cell for four years, and while claustrophobia is typically set off by smaller spaces, from what I know from people who have it and from my psych courses, staying in the same relatively small and unchanging room for a long period of time would be able to set it off as well. There was never any mention of him having a problem with being in the small cell, or with ever being confined; ie handcuffs or the like. To me he doesn't show the symptoms, but I could be wrong. If he does have it maybe it'll come up at some point, but I dunno.

(that sounded harsher than I mesnt it...) He was really going to kill Fowler, he just respected Peter too much to do it when Peter asked him not to. Or at least thats what I took from it.
@Caffrey: Yeah, I know where you are coming from with that.
