(PP - [All Remaining]) (Range [All Enemies]) >Biography - Saiya is a woman of opposites. Her family hailed from the ancestral water clans Azurlin some hundred and fifty years ago, and moved to Suimiltara in the Iluris Region to assist in construction of the Mercury Lighthouse. The ability to manipulate the purifying element had run strong in her family for generations. Even before the Mercury Lighthouse was lit, her ancestors were already considered heavily gifted Mercury Adepts. In the generations that followed, the energy flowing from the lighthouse only served to increase the aptitude of Saiya's family at their craft. They became both potent healers and powerful warriors, and were soon regarded as the single most powerful clan of Mercury Adepts outside of Lemuria itself, and even then, only the strongest of Lemuria's warriors could overpower the psynergy with which the family had been blessed. Saiya grew up in a home awash in the soft blue glow of Mercury Lighthouse, and every night she would gaze at it in wonder before falling asleep. As was the way of her family, she learned the healing arts, but excelled in combat over them, advancing to the point of beginning to create her own manifestations of spells. However, not long after her seventh birthday, tragedy struck. While traveling home from a routine mission of healing the sick, her family's caravan was attacked in the mountain pass by a terrible monster of snow and ice, empowered to incredible levels by the lighthouse's power. The creature was stronger than any that had been encountered before in the area since the lighting of the lighthouse, and her family's powers, despite their renown, were simply not enough to defeat the beast. Young Saiya was forced to watch the hulking monster tear her family to pieces one by one in a grizzly spectacle that scarred her young mind to the breaking point. Once the monster was finished with her family, it turned on her. As the monster bore down on her, the sight of the blood and pieces of her family strewn across the snow shattered her young mind, and she spun into a murderous rage. Her powers as a Mercury Adept surfaced to their full intensity and with absolutely no mercy, she lay into the beast with the full force of her abilities, fueled by her rage and her lust to see the creature pay for what it had done. When a search party finally found Saiya after witnessing huge pulses of energy in the distance, she was curled into a ball, holding her mother's staff, covered in blood, and crying near the bloody remains of a large creature. The creature was so badly mangled and cut to ribbons it was absolutely impossible to identify. After the event, Saiya's mind had been split into two distinct personalities. One is considered to be her normal self and is shy, soft-spoken and gentle, if a little somber at times. This state is characterized by her normal blue eyes. She is very emotional in this state, experiencing things almost as if she were a child in her innocence, but not her mannerisms. The other is characterized by her eyes turning red, as if possessed by the very energies she commands. In this altered state Saiya is considered terribly dangerous when in combat. The change in personality can be brought about by strong emotions, and may even persist for a while afterward. Saiya is flirtatious, dominating, condescending, and quick to anger in her altered state, and is not above using every bit of her power to bring her enemies to their knees if they get in her way. Unbridled terror can oddly both shift Saiya into her altered mental state, or snap her out of it, and only someone she has an attachment to can usually bring her out of her rage if she attempts to take things too far. Ultimately, she will join in Ryugi's quest to put a stop to the lighthouses because the monster that killed her family that day was fueled by its power, and despite all it has brought her, she cannot bear the thought of another family or town being attacked and demolished by an elementally charged creature.

I see nothing wrong ( check my OOC thread comments for some nonsense and hilarity). I've also noticed an influx of Two djinns, and I've made additional comments in our rules about djinn amongst other things in the profiles. It doesn't concern you, mind you, but I'd recommend you not making any other profiles for awhile, until you can fully integrate your other characters into the roleplay.
I also recommend everyone who reads this to talk about a second party somewhere else than Ilia, as we have about eighty billion people bum rushing the Lighthouse ( with the Antagonist group assumingly blowing shitzorzs up, I forget and don't read other chapters/parties...I'm lazy -__-)

I agree. I'm not sure where this Ilia place you speak of is, besides perhaps on the continent of Elibe, but surely nowhere on Weyward. Anyway, I'm thinking of starting protagonist party 2 around Leumeria to fend off the rogue attack we've all forgotten about.
It wouldn't be unreasonable for Saiya to be there, right? Studying mercury psynergy perhaps. :T
---------------------------------------------------- I'd like to hear more about Saiya's powerful family, since thus far I'd been spinning Imil as a declining town. I don't have any problem with it if you can justify it/give me more information, since I don't want to have to fill in the gaps for you.
I'm a little concerned about the split personality issue. I understand that it's already highly ingrained in her character designed, but it seems like a cookie cutter "psychotic damaged second (secret?) personality" type. Not to mention, even though she hasn't been active, we already have a character like that: Flare. Though, admittedly, she makes less sense than Boxy's sense of humor. Most of the time. Both in character and in her posts.

Its a possibility. But I'd planned foe her to be in Imil and effectively meet up with Ryugi at the lighthouse, where they'd fight, and then wind up being allies somehow.
But I suppose keeping them separate for the time being couldn't hurt.
In the same vein, Saiya is very strong, and I'd intended her to play the antagonist role along with Ryugi. But I guess until she learns the truth about what happened when her family was killed by a psynergy charged monster, she'd just be a powerful Adept.

I know you've made one post with Ryugi already, but as Boxy mentioned already, the Mercury lighthouse area is already crowded as it is. Why not have Ryugi and Saiya both start out in Leumeria instead. Leumerians being the constructors of the lighthouses, if one wanted to do something about the lighthouses, investigating their source would be as good a place to start as any.
I might add that Leonidas's attack happened two years ago. If Ryugi set out to investigate lighthouses after the attack, he'd have made it to the Mercury and gone a long time ago. Perhaps he went there dead ended when he couldn't get inside, and moved on, deciding to research them more in Leumeria itself.
Admittedly the above point is equally applicable to Drake's situation.
In any event, my personal opinion, is that there are too many people at the Mercury Lighthouse as it is, and there are events unfolding else where in the world, so I think that both of your characters should start developing those events rather than adding to the crowding at the Mercury lighthouse. More likely than not, Saito's party will end up in Leumeria as our next destination in any event, so there's a possibility of some interaction with the other group then.
In your other vein, I look forward to seeing how you balance Saiya's vast power in the RP.

Well, I suppose I could have Ryugi be in Lemuria. Learning more about the stars and lighthouses WOULD be a good way to learn about putting an end to them...

Just so it's known, Yes I DO mix up Ilia with Imil ( it's too hard not to -_-) Because I am also at a Fire Emblem Roleplaying Board on proboards ( where Rayl exists as an incredibly BAMF Paladin and is basically the strongest guy there in strength and political power, minus those darn NPC kings/tyrants/marquesses.)

Are you serious? This doesn't even seem like an attempt to stay within reasonable canonical limits of the world setting we're playing in.

Given appropriate consideration for its scale and making it a type of attack that even Yami Saiya would have reservations about using, I would have been willing to accept it.
However, employing it in Saiya's first post against a single opponent (even if it was a monster) seems unreasonable. Not to mention it didn't seem to show any negative backlash despite it's steep PP cost. Like my other complaints about this character, I was willing to stay relatively quiet so long as no one else had any objections.
While we're at it, Sharpened Barrier - Reduce damage taken by 80% for 1d4 turns with icy blades. (PP - 30) (Range 1) this is also objectionable, effectively being the same effect as the djinn Flash for (potentially) four times as long, and costing less than 10% of her max PP.
I might add that I thought the "Most beautiful woman in Leumeria" comment was a bit out of line. You can't say that stuff so early on, especially in your first post. Actually you usually don't say that sort of thing at all. And it sounds just plain vain. :U

@Kie: As a mod, your word is law. I agree with you, though, that using it in the first post was sort of lame - that attack should be used as a world-doth-end kind of power, not as a casual, “I hate you, thusly you must die using this super-special-awesome-ability right away!”
I think it's creative & commendable that you're using custom Psynergy, but I almost have to question whether you've played the game recently - you realize that none of the attacks cost 50pp, right? (You might want to consider looking at 'Halt/Divert the Flow' as well as 'Sharpened Barrier' for fairness/plausibility level, as well.)
Ryugi, the way you’ve built and are playing Saiya right now is Mary Sue-ish. She’s this legendarily beautiful girl with mind-blowing powers and split personalities. Is there a way you can balance her?

If I may defend myself against accusations...
Watery Grave: Watery Grave is not an attack that I would fling around without good reason. And even if I did, which I wouldn't, I could not use it very many times before being rendered virtually useless. While I can agree that using it in her opening post was a little much (I mainly used it to demonstrate her power and for flashiness, and to also demonstrate the lengths to which her other side is willing to go to achieve victory), you'll note that Saiya reprimanded her other self for using it on the creature, and also note that she was concerned for the safety of others. Thus, the attack is not exactly one that can be used in a party vs party battle for fear of significant collateral damage to all others involved. Also note the extensive Psynergy Cost of the attack. It's nearly a third of her entire PP bar. I'd originally thought of giving it a cost of 150PP to use, and that would be a huge drain on her energy level, meaning that she'd have very little to use for any other means.
Thus, the balance for the attack's power comes from its high PP cost, the fact that it can cause collateral damage to friendlies if used in a party situation which prevents its use in most battle situations, and that the casting time is long enough that any talented fighter could simply strike to interrupt it before it came to fruition. The attack, then, has three major limitations on its use.
Sharpened Barrier I can see where you're coming from with this. If you like, the cost can effectively be doubled to 70PP in order to make it cost around 20% of her maximum PP, limiting her to using it only a maximum of five times, assuming she planned on using nothing else for the rest of the battle. Once again, the cost of the attack would be limiting its use, and would force her to prioritize targets to use it on.
"Negative Backlash" Next, I don't recall anyone telling me that psynergy had a "stamina draining" effect on the caster during battle. The way I see it, PP represents the caster's pool of energy to use their abilities, using any more than that, if possible, would effectively drain from their HP (which is a rather cool concept if you ask me) as they damaged themselves by going too far without allowing their body's natural ability to cast recover. That would sit more fully with how Psynergy Points recover overtime in game. And for that matter, I can still fight at full strength in game without taking penalties to my attack power when I have zero PP, meaning psynergy usage should not have an effect on my ability to fight. To me, this seems like a much more adequate scale when using psynergy when based on what is seen while playing the game.
Psynergy Costs Speaking of playing the game, I'm well aware that the most expensive Psynergy attacks don't go much above 30PP. But let us remember this is a time when psynergy is far more prevalent in the world, and thus, new forms of it are being used in combat and other mediums. However, the main reason I have chosen to go over that limit of cost is due to the strengths or effects of the attacks involved. A higher cost effectively adds to the balancing effect of the attacks, and I see the higher cost as a necessity in order to facilitate the balance of the character.
Most Beautiful No offense, but go back and read the post again. You'll note I said "one of the most beautiful." Saiya is an attractive young woman, and would likely rate as one of the most lovely women in Lemuria right now. I'm a writer, and details are important to me. By saying what I did, I helped to solidify Saiya's status as being a lovely young woman. I certainly wasn't saying that she's "the fairest of them all" or that any other character was hideously outmatched in terms of attractiveness when compared to her.
And, really, the fact that you mention me saying it at all as being "out of line" is insulting. I mean, how am I supposed to take that? What exactly is "in line" or "in my place"? Am I not allowed to have a character that is beautiful or attractive? Am I not allowed to say that she's possibly one of the most attractive people in Lemuria? I can understand the comments and concerns about Saiya's attacks. She's a very powerful character, and I've done what I could to try and balance her. She obviously needs more work, and I'm hoping to find some sort of compromise that can work for all parties involved, but calling me out on a simple description of my character being "one of the most beautiful" as being out of line? That really insults me, and my integrity as a role player. Calling her "Mary Sue" when I have had virtually ZERO AREAS AND OR OPPORTUNITIES to expand upon her personality in an IC situation due to the lack of plot movement after I'd been sent to Lemuria is almost infuriating.
I've done as much as I can think of to try and be active around here short of just randomly posting by myself in my own "story" thread which I can barely stand to do. I made my own section of story thread because you said Imil was too crowded, and moved both of my characters there upon request. I've since waited for some semblance of plot to start moving there and have had nothing appear. I do not like feeling like I'm wasting my time when I do as someone asks of me, nor do I enjoy "playing by myself". I created the OOC Thread, which seems to be serving as a medium of communication between most active parties in the guild. And, I created the Battle Arena just last night so people have something else to do to practice their fighting or do something when the plot isn't moving, which appears to be most of the time at the moment. That's all beyond control of the members, and people have lives, and I MORE than understand that, but to be accosted due to one description and for me to be called "out of line" and my character "Mary Sue" really makes me question whether or not you even want me in this guild to begin with. I want to be here, I want to be active, and I want to be a part of the story, but so far, I've been prevented from doing so, and then called out, and that doesn't sit well with me...
Now, I've said my peace. I hope we can find a compromise that will work for Saiya. And I would hope that you please, please keep in mind that I am trying very hard to be a part of this guild, and be an active contributing member, but comments like being "out of line" or that my characters are "cookie-cutter" or "Mary Sue" do not help in me wanting to continue those efforts.

@Ryugi: Whoa, whoa, dude, calm down. No one’s attacking you or your contributions to the guild - we’re talking about your character Saiya, here, like civilized adults. We collectively appreciate your contributions to the guild, they’re wonderful and the fact you’re so active is great! We aren’t talking about that, here in this thread, though; we’re discussing this particular character you’ve built. Notice, no one’s complaining about the character Ryugi; he’s very balanced and well-done.
You are not being ‘prevented’ from being part of the story, nor are you being ‘accosted’. This isn’t even a particularly big deal; resolving this has potential to be very easy if you’re willing to open your mind and not take critique on a character build as a personal attack.
Anyways, I think you made some very valid points in regards to potential build changes and or justifications; just think thrice before using Watery Grave, I politely posit. Only a mod can give you the official go on any of this, of course.

Yeah you really outta take a chill pill on that one Ryugi. We're simply stating that Watery Grave, despite these drawbacks, is still subject of debate considering it's sureshot lethality, though as of this moment I have no comments of the matter myself, and as we're on the honor system here, I can only say that I trust that you won't be spamming all about like some noob and all ( though personally I'd hold back on such high power things until later on but again that's just me.). Everything else I saw no problem with, and you were more or less lashing out at some formal critism.

You guys missed the entire reason I got frustrated. I wasn't upset because of your comments about Saiya's power. In fact, I clearly stated that she was quite powerful, and I was open to finding compromises that worked for everyone.
What I DID find offensive was the comment of me saying she was "one of the most beautiful" was somehow "out of line" when it shouldn't really have been a big deal, and the fact that you called her a "Mary Sue" when I've had a grand total of one post to make anything of her personality and character. Both of THOSE comments were the ones that got me upset.
Her powers getting balanced in a way that works for everyone was not what upset me.
