Name: Yamaiwa Kenichi
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Heph, or Hephaestus
Race: Shinigami
Age: 367 years, apparent age 25
Height: 6' 10"
Weight: 268 lbs
Rank: None Available
Physical Description: Kenichi is a wall of muscle, a living mountain of a man. Towering above most his whole life, he long since gave up trying to blend in. Still, he has done remarkably little to stand out. His hair and eyes are the same shade of brown, with the hair cut short. Forgoing any facial hair, he remains as clean as possible. Taking advantage of his frame, Kenichi has become broad as well as tall, taking on physical conditioning and tasks with enthusiasm until he is imposing in silhouette. The odd thing about him is while he does not show any tattoos, piercings, or other major decorations, his arms are rife with minor nick scars and burns. Individually, none are serious, but in a group, his forearms look as to have been through hell and back.
For clothes, he typically wears the shihaksho of his vocation. At rest, he is fond of just removing the top of his clothes, letting it fall from his waist while still attached there. To date, he has not spent enough time in the world of the living to show any sort of regular style.
Personality: Kenichi is a teddy bear. Despite how large he is, the man rarely speaks ill of people. With efforts to be helpful, he figures his form is enough of a disadvantage. Attempts to make friends do not often work, though. Thus, his efforts are usually spent in working as a part of a team. Rather than change each person's mind, he has done the most good as part of a team- doing all he can to help others and get the job done.
Kenichi loves to create, to fabricate, and to carve. More than anything else, he loves carving. To him, that is the most relaxing activity. Scrimshaw, wood, even stone. He often carries a small pouch of tools with him to just pick up a material and start carving whatever comes to mind. This keeps him occupied and offers a distraction from boredom or lonliness. Most of his creations are simply left where somebody might notice them. Only a rare few with emotional significance are kept. Some for the material, some for memories, some for pride in creating a great statue. Those are his greatest treasures.
His greatest flaw is a one-track mind. Set to a task, he will not stop, will not slow unless ordered to. A situation in which he has no real choice. In combat, he has never shown any real mercy to hollows . . . to him, using his weapon to end them is being merciful. To date, he has not fought seriously against any other type of foe, leaving him unsure on how to fight anything else.
Zanpakutou: ikazuchi kitaeru (thunder forge)
Zanpakutou Spirit: A large white rhinoceros, approximately 1.5 meters tall. Heavily built, and colored in traditional gray tones. Typically stubborn and loathe to be coerced, the animal speaks, acts, and moves when . . . and if . . . it feels like doing so. To date, he has not talked with Kenichi so no precedent exists for interaction.
Inner World: Ikazuchi kitaeru rules a plain of high grasses with a few sparse trees. Skies above him are often cloudy, making the area uniformly lit in a comfortable amount of light. In the distance are mountains that surround his plain, as if a wall of rock prevents the outside world from invading this span of paradise for him. Naturally, the skies alter slightly depending on his mood, but remain cloudy most of the time. Grasses are tall enough for the ever-present breeze to create waves and a soothing 'swish' almost like the ocean. Trees are usually in groups of three or four, and consist of various fruit trees. Figs, apples, pears, and oranges being the most common. The world remains calm and peaceful, devoid of any animal life except Ikazuchi kitaeru himself.
Sealed Form: Opposed to typical katana, when sealed ikazuchi kitaeru takes the shape of an oriental broadsword, with a white tassel on the end of the handle. The crosspiece and handle themselves remain an unadorned black.
(Not obtained yet) Shikai Name/Release Phrase: "Kujiku, ikazuchi kitaeru" The command is to 'crush,' and the name of the blade.
Shikai Description: The sword glows and reforms into a much larger form. At first lengthening into a staff, the weapon quickly expands to a broad end, and on the narrower end a large circular hoop. A rippling effect signals the end to the change as the majority of the weapon takes on a ribbed texture. When the transformation glow ends, the sword reformed into a very large and long kanabo. The entire weapon appears to be made of steel or iron, a dark metal with a red wrap around the thinner end for a grip.
The length of the weapon is long enough for Kenichi to put across his shoulders and rest both forearms on the weapon as most would use a quarterstaff. In order to do this, the kanabo form is unusually long, being similar to his total height- seven feet long, eight and a half if the length of the blade and ring are included.
The two defining features are a small six-inch blade at the very top of the studded end, providing a short cutting edge. At the base of the handle is a wide ring, large enough to easily grip with a single massive hand, or two smaller ones.
Shikai Powers/Attacks:
Hibana - The small blade at the apex of the weapon becomes electrically charged. The spark is strong enough to ignite dry kindling or cloth
Denka - If the Hibana is not discharged, but called on a second time, the metal of the kanabo becomes charged, adding an electric shock to any conductive material or person upon impact with the weapon anywhere but the wrap or ring.
Sutorecchi - By gripping the ring instead of the wrap, and swinging the weapon full-force, the ring disengages from the wrapped section of the weapon. From within the core of the kanabo, a stored six feet of heavy chain extends, giving that extra reach for broad swipes and additional power on a strike. Once the extended strike is over, the chain will retract when the ring is released. As long as a hand is on the ring, the chain will stay out.

Biography/History: Kenichi was born in a poor family in a mining village. His family had spent generations working in rock quarries and working stone. From early on, Kenichi knew he was destined to join the family business, as several generations of men in his family did before him. As he aged, and his body grew to truly impressive proportions, his home life became truly stressed. Doubts on his lineage arose when the child grew to dwarf his father, but nothing could be proved. That constant pressure in his home combined with the nature of a small town created an environment of oppression. Through such, Kenichi grew to enjoy his carvings. The first bits were very basic, but with an unlimited supply of wood scraps and small stones, his skill grew.
Over time, that issue became common accepted knowledge. the village knew Misato, Kenichi's mother, was unfaithful. In a poor village, this family was singled out. The father could not leave, and the falsely accused mother could not prove her innocence. Despite all this, Kenichi became famous in his own right as his broad frame and tall body gave him skill in doing the labor of the village. He was bound to have a good life, blessed by the very curse that ostracized him at home. Ultimately, his life was not too bad.
In the height of summer, he was working with a crew in the deeper part of a quarry, sifting through stone. Unfortunately, the pile of recently loosened stone was highly unstable. Dangerous work conditions were not new to this group, and safety was often a personal problem. When the stones beneath the team began to shift, Kenichi did the first thing that came to mind. He grabbed his friend and partner . . . and threw him free of the slide. In seconds, the area was full of dust, and Kenichi was gone. He died a local hero, just as he had lived as a lucky recipient of a huge body.
After the slide, Kenichi spent many months moping around the quarry. He was pleased to see the town mourn him, and equally pleased to see the village move on. "Life goes on" evidently. The worst part of all this was the boredom. Without a body, his favorite pasttime was denied him. He had no hands with which to carve. Lost in a sea of tools and material, and no way to do anything. In this mire of boredom and depression a shimigami discovered him as a wandering soul. Thankfully, he had no real regrets to turn him into a hollow, and promised a better existence, he welcomed the konso.
Once in the Soul Society, Kenichi had no real choice. Again he was singled out for his massive size and strength. Again, he had no idea what else to do. The idea of a generations-old vocation appealed to him, and he was gladly accepted into the academy. His strength allowed him to do well in physical training and basic combat techniques. Kido was a bit challenging for him, but overall he passed. A recent graduate, Kenichi had to think long and hard at the squads for a specialty that will suit his skills. In the end, he decided to apply for squad 12 to put his love of building and assembling to good use. A recent reconstruction of the squad might give him a foot in the door . . . and with him, that was a big foot.
