Located in Cyrodiil, north of the Imperial City, Bruma's population is mostly Nord, although other races are also present.

The Countess of Bruma is Narina Carvain, a Heartland Nibenean woman of noble descent.

The Bruma Mages Guild is a good starting point for mage-type characters since the guild members sell spells in every school, with a wide variety of effects. Of particular note is the Summon Dremora Lord which cannot be purchased anywhere else. See Volanaro for more details.

The word Bruma comes from the Latin word for "cold" or "winter" although in other Romance languages such as Spanish or French it means "fog" or "haze".

Freya wiped the sweet from her face and continued pulling weeds. Why couldn't people do their own work? Her brother had been told to do this job last week and now here she was in his place because he had 'forgotten'. It didn't matter, she would be done soon and then relax until she was given another task. Or until it was time to train. She found herself picking at the thorned weeds vacantly, imagining them digging into her flesh and wincing.

That always happened, if something could hurt you she always saw it happen, maybe she was just paranoid. Some of the things she saw were just ridiculous though.

Pyyra Ebonfold

Pyyra wandered through the streets of Bruma. Her next target was staying the the small city to rest. Though the man was easily recognizable, he was hiding in one of the near by houses. He was Nord by blood but acted more like an orc then anything.

Pyyra had been tracking her prey for several nights, enjoying the waves of fear that radiated off of him every time she got closer. That night, would be the night she finished the contract.

Pyyra should have left the contract for an assassin but the thrill of bloodying her weapon was to much to resist.

Perhaps she would ask the towns folk where the Nord was hiding, she could claim to be a hired bodyguard or a good friend of her prey. With a large grin on her face, she raised her hood and searched around.

Over to her left, a Nord woman was pulling weeds. She looked calm enough, she wasn't likely to start anything. Some citizens would often start a fight with Pyyra when she dug for information, which in most cases, caused Pyyra to kill them and acquire a bounty on her head. Though it was no concern, Pyyra was always able to bribe her way out of annoying situations.

Walking up to the young woman she smiled and bowed her head slightly. "Good afternoon m'lady." she greeted politely, "I seem to have lost track of my client. His name is Dothire Granfite, one of your fellow Nords actually. Would you know anything about his whereabouts?"

(too much to resist. )

Freya looked up when the women spoke but then went right back to work. She didn't recognize the voice and as she recalled it in her mind it struck her how clearly she'd seen the woman's face. That meant she had been looking right at her.

She looked up slightly surprised to check and see if she was still looking at her and held the trowel against her chest. By this time she was speaking again and Freya had to switch her mind so she could recognize what she was saying. "Dothire?" She thought for a second and tapped the trowel against her hip unconsciously. "He's down by the guild...I think." She answered doubting herself, "Why do you ask?" I t should have been her first question, though now she remembered that it had already been answered. He was one of her clients. "Heh...sorry. You told me" What kind of person goes around announcing everything? People don't really need explanations.

Pyyra Ebonfold

Pyyra smiled lightly toward the Nord. She was a nice girl, innocent, just the type whom Pyyra despised. In her eyes, everyone should be serving their dread father Sithis. But if that were so then no contracts would come into existence, there would be no death, no souls to join Sithis and the Night Mother.

Pyyra bowed her head slightly again. "Thank you for your help." she said, letting her hand brush across the hilt of the small dagger at her side. "Perhaps our paths will cross again." With that she was off, turned and walking toward the upper Terrance of the city. There lay both the mage's guild and the fighter's guild. She knew if he was holding up in a guild, it would be the fighter's guild.

A smile crossed her lips when she was standing at the doors of the fighter's guild. She was a member, it allowed her to have a cover, it was somewhere to lay low if necessary. She opened the door. Smiles and greetings were sent her way but all she ignored, all she would need to do was find Dothire then everything would fall into place.

Volge slowly walked through the city streets, hiding whenever he could get a chance. He had a cloth in his hand and was wiping the blood of his last target of his knife. "That went as smoothly as ever." He said quietly. "And as fun as ever too." He then heard the footsteps that were chasing after him earlier. "My, my. Why do they have to keep chasing me." He mumbled as he began to run before he found himself at a dead end at the back of the fighter's guild. He noticed an open window, and when he looked in he noticed it was just some kind of storage room. He jumped in and took cover in the darkness of the room. As soon as he stopped being followed he would leave to see if there were any more targets he could take out.

Freya stared off after the women and wondered who she was. Not many people talked to her and the politeness was kind of irritating. Maybe that was why people said she was rude. Another excuse. Her fists tightened and she pulled the trowel up quickly, smacking herself across the jaw as she banished the thoughts that came to her. She had no reason to think such things. She wiped the dirt off of her chin and ignored the pain as she returned to work. She could explain the bruise, it was something she could get from practicing with a fighting stick. Her hands had come loose and the bo bounced on her shoulder, "Dangit..." She hated the fact that so much of her mind came up with an excuse. She wouldn't need to use it. No one would ask why. No one would know what was wrong with her.

Pyyra Ebonfold

Pyyra turned a corner, silently unsheathing the dagger that she favored. It had been given to her as a reward for her unwavering loyalty to Sithis and the Night Mother.

The members of the fighter's guild were near the front of the building conversing about one thing or another. Slowly their voices died away with the distance and walls Pyyra was putting between them and herself.

Pyyra put a hand on a door and pushed it open. The hinges squealed in protest. The room was full of crates and flour sacks. She moved in, placing her feet quietly on the floor, crouched low and keeping her breath even. The excitement that she was so close to a kill was almost to much to take.

Peering around a stack of crates, Pyyra saw a shadow move. She crept forward, she was itching to strike, to take another life. She tensed her muscles, ready for the killing blow but then she had an odd feeling. As though someone was pulling her away. A feeling in which told her this wasn't her target. With a frown she sheathed her dagger. "Show yourself."

Volge drew his dual knives out his cloak when he heard the voice. He slowly edged out of the spot he was hiding in to see a woman standing there. "Hello there." He said, knives ready in case he needed to kill her.

Pyyra Ebonfold

Pyyra peered through the darkness. A grin spread ear to ear across her face. The voice was familiar, one she knew well. "Well if it isn't Volge...assassin of the Brotherhood." she said, her voice carrying eerily toward the armed shadow.

"Lower your weapons, I am not the enemy." Pyyra ordered, "But...perhaps, if you wish...you could accompany me to finish a contract. I have reason to believe my target is in this very building..." She turned, not at all worried. The Dark Brotherhood had strict rules, though there were not many. Only five were spoken by Sithis, only five were to be followed. These tenets prevented any sort of betrayal from taking place. If these commandments were to be broken, the wrath of Sithis would be invoked.

Volge grinned as he sheathed his knives. "Well, if it isn't the Listener herself." He said as he walked over to her. "I'd be happy to help. I'm kinda in the mood for two murders today."

"Good..." Pyyra said slowly. She opened the door, emerging into the main space of the fighter's guild. The voices had disappeared completely, no doubt about an about in Bruma, finishing their own pitiful contracts. It was something she had not understood. The reason why the fighters guild frowned upon murder. Had they never felt the blood of a freshly killed target on their hands? Had they never stalked their prey, waiting for that perfect time to strike? The exhilaration?

"Dothire Granfite. Born in the Imperial City. He is the last of a very old bloodline. The client holds a grudge against Dothire. As it turns out, he had killed our client's brother. Had it not been self defense that caused the death, I may have paid him a visit..." Pyyra trailed off for a moment. There had not been a new Initiate in the Brotherhood for quite some time. "He knows he is being followed, by who, he is unaware. He is frantic and in a panic. He is a master in swordsmanship and will no doubt be armed."

The contract was a simple one. There were no specifications about the death, only that Dothire died. It meant they could have a bit of well deserved fun. Pyyra nodded her head toward another door, this one led down into the cellar. There was a good chance that he might be hiding there. Prey often fled to dark places where they might be alone. But how wrong they were, the dark, the shadows were the Brotherhood's allies, it was their element. No one was safe within the shadows.

"Seems like an easy one." Volge said. "We haven't failed anything yet." He said as he looked around the place. "Never been to this place before. Killed a few of their members though."

"Sometimes the easiest contracts are the most deadly." Pyyra commented briefly, "My Silencer learned that lesson, and now he sits at Sithis's side." It was true, the contract Pyyra had sent her Silencer on was a test. Had he survived, he would have been promoted to Speaker, but his target, the Archmage of the mage's guild proved to be to challenging.

Pyyra smiled at Volge's last comment. She knew all to well whom he had killed. She kept a careful eye on him, often asking the Night Mother for help in the matter. Volge was a perfect candidate for a Silencer, and maybe even a Speaker, but he refused to rank any higher then Assassin.

Pyyra crept further into the cellar. The evidence of someone holding up in the small space was evident. The crackling of a fire could be heard while garments and various weapons were scattered across the floor. She halted and bent down to inspect something. A thin rope was stretched about an inch from the bottom of the floor. She reached out to it, putting pressure on the thick string and listened to the twang as it snapped. An arrow was produced from the far wall, arching and hitting the ground. A closer look showed the arrow to be poisoned. "Clever man." she said under her breath then slightly louder, "Proceed with caution."

Volge looked around the cellar, smiling at the simple trap. "Sure, though..." He stepped on another small rope that sent another arrow flying at him. His hand quickly darted into his cloak, unsheathing his knife and blocked the arrow as it got close to hitting him. "You won't have to worry about me." He said as the arrow hit the floor.
