The Dark Brotherhood is a guild of professional assassins with considerable influence and power. It is similar to Morrowind's Morag Tong, but despite a common misconception is a completely separate organization; also, the legality of this organization is much more limited than that of its older cousin. Entry is governed not by completing a given task, but by the Brotherhood observing you committing murder.

According to Lucien Lachance, the Dark Brotherhood has sanctuaries all over Cyrodiil, the under-croft of the Bruma Chapel, a secret champer under Castle Anvil, Fort Farget just outside the city of Bravil, and the basement of an abandoned house in Cheydinhal, This particular sanctuary was founded more than 200 years ago.

Brotherhood Armor
All family members are presented with this armor after they complete their initiation.

To gain an invitation to the Dark Brotherhood, one must murder an innocent.



Murderer

The Murderers are the lowest ranking initiates of the Dark Brotherhood and recent additions to the Sanctuary, evidenced by their ignorance concerning Sithis or The Night Mother.


Slayer

Slayers are the people within the Dark Brotherhood whose task is to carry out the executions the Brotherhood is hired for.


Eliminator

Eliminators are one rank above Slayers. They take on more difficult and dangerous contracts. In addition, they hunt down renegade members and freelancing assassins, that refused to join the Brotherhood. Besides this, nothing else is known about them.


Assassin

Assassin is the fourth rank in the Dark brotherhood. They are known for their discretion while carrying out a contract. They are among the most skilled.


Executioner

Executioner rank consists of the most ruthless of Dark Brotherhood members. Often rejoicing the the death of their victims.


Silencer

Silencers are the right hand of the speakers and listener. they carry out contracts given to them only by their assigned speaker or listener. They are among the most trusted of the Brotherhood.


Speaker

Speakers receive orders from the listener regarding new contracts. They will visit the worshiper whom has prayed for help from the Night Mother and will arrange the details of the contract and pass the orders on the their respective sanctuaries. For particularly dangerous missions the speaker must employ his or her silencer.


Listener

The listener of the Black Hand is the leader of the Dark Brotherhood, only out ranked by the Night Mother herself. The Listener visits the statue of the Lucky Old Lady in Bravil at regular intervals. This statue is the hidden entrance to the crypt of the Night Mother. Here, the Listener receives a list of those people who have prayed to the Night Mother for murder, and passes these contracts on to the Speakers.
