I'm not sure if I would consider myself an "avid" fan, but I have indeed seen all 6 movies now. And ironically I find that movie 3 and 6 are the best out of the entire bunch. Saw 1 introduced an element in movies I've never seen before; basically about a serial killer that doesn't necessarily "kill" his victims. Instead he places them in horrofic traps that does indeed allow them a way out, but the price to pay is heavy and you only get a set amount of time to get out of the trap before you're basically....well....f#$@#ed. I don't know if there's any other movie out there that has victims trying to escape deadly traps in order to learn how to appreciate life, but nonetheless Saw 1 was a unique start to a very interesting and partially thought provoking series.

Saw 2 took the elements of the first film, but instead added MORE victims and different traps to play with while developing the character of Jigsaw as well as Amanda, one of his surviving victims.

Saw 3 basically takes the first two, wraps them up nicely with connecting explanations of how they played into the REAL story behind everything, and then ends with Jigsaw's death as well as more victims getting screwed over.

Saw 4 takes place after Jigsaw's death and ties into the story his "recruits" that are carrying on his legacy to say the least and it shows more interesting traps and victims and like the other movies, but this is the first movie of the series to introduce the traps containing TWO people to accomplish getting out of it. Or was it the fifth one that introduced that element? But yeah anyway, its not fantastic, but the movie is still amusing to watch however the plot for it is a bit confusing and kinda leaves you with a "meh" towards its rating.

Saw 5 makes the traps with more victims to get out of it but not all the victims get to survive and like its previous movies, it introduces new traps, yet ANOTHER plot twist and leaves you on a cliffhanger as Jigsaw's predecessors try to continue his work. However in this movie the wife of Jigsaw is becoming more involved within the story. This movie also goes about explaining more about what caused Jigsaw to start doing what he's doing to these people. I think the 4th also explained some of it, but I don't remember because its been a good while since I've seen Saw 4.

And now finally, Saw 6 which I just rented and watched a day ago. When people told me its a lot better than 4 and 5 combined, they weren't kidding. The movie right off the bat starts you out with two victims, only the element they changed with this movie is, instead of the victims working together as a team to make it out of the trap, they have to work against each other. For example, the first victims in the beginning of the movie are set up to where whoever cuts off the most amount of flesh to put onto a scale, will set them free. Their lessons to learn is basically based off the Merchant of Venice story of "giving a lb of flesh" as a price for what they did. So that's just one example. What I loved about this movie is that it did the same thing Saw 3 did. It took ALL of the movies so far and explained the in depth plot behind all the plots and it revealed who was truly, TRULY behind the scenes the entire time, operating what was going on and how everyone is connected and how the victims were involved in the first place. Wanna know who it is? well....SPOILER Its Jigsaw's wife. which actually surprised me because from the previous movies they showed how she was very much against what Jigsaw was doing, but nope. in the end she carried out Jigsaw's wishes of making sure all the victims were "part of the game". But yeah the movie explained everything quite beautifully, the traps were pretty awesome and it even brought back the classic reverse bear trap. And considering how it ended, I'm going to safely assume that this is indeed the final Saw of the entire series.

The best way to describe all movies is with this simple formula:

Serial Killer (who doesn't actually kill) + horrofic traps + number of victims in each trap + background twisted plot= all 6 movies

On a letter rating from A-F I give:

Saw 1 A
Saw 2 C+
Saw 3 B
Saw 4 C-
Saw 5 C
Saw 6 B+

yeah definitely picked up after 4. but we seem to give fairly similar ratings to all of them. smile cool. but apparently there's yet ANOTHER movie coming out....Saw 3D. EVERYTHING IS ******** 3D! argh....ugh its so stupid stare i mean not ALL the 3D movies that have come out are bad 3D. I thought Avatar....no not the Last Airbender, the OTHER Avatar was cool in 3D. And I know Afterlife was completely meant for 3D but all these other ones? I'm not going to waste my money.

well im giving Saw 1 the rating I would give it when it was my first reaction. It may have been a while since I've actually seen Saw 1, but my first reaction when the movie came out was "wow holy crap this is awesome, what a neat idea for a horror flick". so that's what im basing it off it. if i were to base the rate in comparison to the other movies then itd get a much lower rating.
