So, I was just talking to Jonnie and he sent me the link to the song Defying Gravity from Wicked in Japanese and German. Here they are:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8owOnvjjM4 (German)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXLB0xfBHbU (Japanese)

And it made me wonder, what other musicals have been translated into foreign languages? What are some good songs from musicals in foreign languages? Have you ever seen a musical in a foreign language?

Discuss! biggrin

Never heard of Wicked, but I've seen some clips of Mama Mia in Japanese.
Wish they had the full songs though.

Yeah, if it's popular in the U.S then I wouldn't know...
I only watch Japanese TV xd

@Redfa The only Iranian movie I've seen was about a bunch of female soccer fans sneaking in to watch a soccer game because
women aren't allowed to go to soccer games with men apparently because they'll "tempt" them or something.
Iran's really strict on those sorts of things huh?

Yeah, that was it!
It was a good movie.
I read it was unfortunately banned in Iran.

It's sad that things got worse because of the revolution (though I admittedly don't know too much about the Islamic Revolution myself).
Banning female singing sounds really extreme.
Do you live in Iran?

Thanks for the recommendation!
Saw the trailer for Football Under Cover.
It looks really interesting!
I'll have to watch it if I ever get the chance.

Shah's Era was not very good people didn't have political freedom and SAVAK( Royal Intelligent Service of Iran) had lots of power...but the Ayatollah's Government was not better much ...they started a war with Iraq and continued it for 8 Years ...and it costs so much money and Lives..

It's really sad the female was highly discriminated in Iran.

By the way, "I dreamed a dream" were translated into different languages, but I don't know the rests.

J'avais reve d'une autre vie (Literally "I dreamed of another life" in Original 1980 French)
I Dreamed a Dream (Japanese: Yume wa yaburete)
I dreamed a Dream (English)

« Le Roi Soleil » is a really famous comédie musicale in France. This is my favourite song from the show, it's the final: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQNEV8pq_JM

I think you're the first Iranian person I've met here.
Do they censor the internet there?

I will if I can find it! Sometimes international documentaries are on On Demand here on the TV, but other then that, it's pretty hard to find niche documentaries...those kind of things usually aren't in video rental stores, and I'm a typical poor college student, so I don't really buy movies much.

Ummm..there are many Iranians on net but they mostly won't reveal their nationalities.... You know ...many people hate us...

There is no Copyright law in Iran so we can download and copy them easily... So I think you can download Iranians movies for free too! razz

Hey guys, I don't mean to be a jerk but please stay on topic. If you want to talk about Iranian law, feel free to make a new topic or take it to PM. whee
